The mare stood stock-still where she was standing. The breeze clouded her hearing for a moment as it swept through the grasses and reeds, making whispers in the grass. She knew she was near the woods from the wet odor of moss and dropped pinecones. Yet she knew not which woods it was. There were too many woods that edges the meadow, and she could no better figure which one it was, as she could choose which stream it was that ran through it. Frustrated, Lucinda could not help stomping her feet a few times, flattening the grass beneath her hooves. This was not how she wanted to spend her day, lost in the woods. But then again, she was never truly lost, for she did not truly have a home to be lost from.
Since she had lost her sight, it had become a daunting task to travel. But she could not bring herself to stay in one place. That was like telling a bird to stay on the ground. Unthinkable. she was a traveler, even with her limited senses. Her hearing was very sharp, yet even that could be muddled. It was challenging.
Her face scrunching up slightly as she thought, she began to move forward, back into the meadow, listening for the telltale trickle of the brook that was nearby to guide her way. It was the easiest marker she had to follow.

flannerys teepee Luthias waited at the edge of the water, still as stone he waited. A fish swam close, a shimmering trout, its glistening scales caught his eye and he became captivated. Luthias struggled to contain his excitement and maintain his composure, the fish drifted into range, and in one motion, all his built up energy released into a lethal attack. He had speared the fish with one of his talons and bit into it delightfully. All the motion he had made in the water would have surly frightened away other nearby fish. Luthias calmly waited in the water, keeping his feet still, he used the tip of his leathery tail to wiggle in the water like a lure. The anticipation of another fish kept him so focused he had not even noticed the approaching mare.

Lucinda could not see what was transpiring, but she could certainly hear it. The quick rush of air as something rushed forward, a splash, the wet wiggling of something. Then a fish odor. Was something catching fish? She stood very still, her ears flicking to and fro as she listened. But there was now only silence. she had not heard whatever it was that was fishing depart the waters, so she stood as still as she could.
In the act of bravery and stupidity, she called out. "Hello? Is someone there? I'm afraid that my eyes beseech thee for I cannot see you." She flicked her short tail, and the ridges along her back and her sides rippled iridescently colors of purple and blue.

Luthias looked to the voice. A bizarre looking mare stood at the other side of the stream. He noticed her fish tail and fins, and thought for a moment that he was looking at a mermaid. He trotted through the water towards her, and approached her awkwardly. He cleared his throat before replying "Yes, there is someone here." he said only a yard or so away. Her form was so intriguing to him and found himself staring.

Lucinda smiled softly, flicking her head to move her hair out of her face. The voice sounded gruff, but not outwardly harsh. It was also very much male. "Is there a name I can attach to this voice I hear?" She murmured, her voice musing. She had been in contact with few other Soquili, but few had been male.
She pawed at the ground, and turned her head downward in a show of demureness. "My name is Lucinda, but...you are welcome to call me Luci." Elf Princess Flannery Taaaag! Sorry it took so long. Dx

"Luci" he repeated softly, "You may call me Luthias" He held an awkward pause before asking dumbly "Can you truly not see? Where you in some sort of accident?" as soon as the questions left his mouth, he realized how rude it was to question someone he had just met. But he found it hard to imagine going about without sight. If he couldn't see the shinnies he so fondly collected he may as well collect dirt! His curiosity it seemed lacked pleasantries and urged him to ask the obvious.

"Luthias." She murmured, rolling the name around on her tongue before uttering it. It was a nice name. She smiled as he asked his questions, and she felt his unspoken apology at the abruptness of the question. "Yes... I can no longer see the clouds, or the sun, or see the stars when they burn brightly in the night sky. But... I still remember them, so there's at least that much." She laughed softly. "It wasn't so much an accident as it was a witch's wish to curse my family. But I hold no bitter resentment as my mother and sister do. But I have not seen them in a very long time, so I know not if they even live." She rolled her shoulders in a shrug.
Shaking her head, she smiled again. "But! Past is past! If one dwells too long, then they are unable to move on. I like thinking of the future, in all it's unknown brightness and darkness." She nodded assuredly.
She snorted, and shook her head. "But on to you, in all your unknown appearance and strangeness. Did you have luck in the water, sir Luthias?"

Luthias was interested to hear so much about her, but it made him nervous, surely she would want to know as much about him. He was not accustomed to sharing about himself, mostly because he knew little of it.
"Then maybe it is best you don't see me, any other might run or outright attack at the very sight of me." he said followed by a gruff laugh. "But yes, I have found to be quite good at fishing, the shiny ones taste the best I think."
He then thought about her mention of family, it mixed up an urge, a longing in him he had forgotten about. He was a bit envious, he had no family or kin to speak of, if he did they had made no effort to find him, and he hadn't the slightest clue as to where to look.
He had even more things he wanted to ask, about her family, and others like her, but suppressed his urges so that he did not bombard her with prying questions.

"Appearances mean nothing to me, dear Luthias." She murmured, a smile touching her face once more. "I cannot see to make judgements, and I find it very silly for them to be based on outward looks!" She couldn't help but laugh at the very thought. No decent creature would base on looks alone. "And besides, you have given me no wish to run away. You have been nothing but cordial, and speaking to me is the most kindness I've had in quite awhile." She wished very much that she could see Luthias, so that she could put a face to the brusque voice she heard.
"Is there anything you wish to know of me? I do not mind telling you. It is silly to keep secrets unnecessarily when they are unimportant to me." The thought of thinking that her family was even minutely that important to her was a bit laughable. They had made her life misery, and seemed to break her mind asunder in such a way that even though she was fond of them, it was not a fondness that would be acted out toward them.
When Luthias spoke of shiny fish, her smile grew. "I do not remember what shiny fish look like, though I remember the flashes of their scales beneath the waves when I would visit the shores." She did indeed have a love for the water, but most water stung her wounds, so she avoided them as much as possible. "Do the shiny ones taste of brilliance?" She asked, tilting her head to the side to show the look of pleasure that had taken hold to her face.

Luthias was happy to hear she was unafraid of him and thought he was kind. He is normally overcautious and outright rude, but something about her brings his guard down, she brings out a kindness in him that he is not familiar with.
"Brilliance! Yes, they taste like brilliance. I will catch you one if you like, but first I want to ask you a question. I know its probably stupid to ask, but, are you a mermaid?" he winced a little, he knew it sounded ridiculous but is question was entirely genuine.

Lucinda couldn't help the bubble of laughter that echoed from her mouth. She had never had someone ask if she were a mermaid. The question oddly pleased her. To be compared to the lovely underwater creatures with their long fish tails that would shine with starry scales. Oh, how she wished she were.
She moved forward a few careful steps toward where she could hear Luthias' voice until she felt water lap at her hooves. She stopped and tilted her head to the side with a soft, dreamy smile on her lips. "No... I am not... Though I dream of it." Another small laugh passed from her, and she lowered her head shyly, fearing his mockery at childish dreams.

Despite the fact Luci was blind, Luthias still turned his head to hide his flustered face. He smiled at her laughter, the sound stirred up a kind of heat when he heard it. "Oh, well I warned you it was a stupid question," he said shyly, "But your as much a mermaid that I'v ever seen." Luthias turned and stepped into the water with hardly a sound, "Now to catch you some tasty brilliance" He said softly. He walked though the water slowly, pressing his limbs into the water much like a crane would, while his eyes constantly scanned for the shimmering fish just below the surface. Luci was a pleasant distraction from his nearly constant predatory drive, but the instantaneous shift to hunting and the admirable amount of focus he pours into it can be a bit unsettling.

Lucinda smiled softly at the sound of shyness that flowed in Luthias' voice. He was very kind, strangely so for the voice that held that kindness. Yet, that gruff voice did not sway the way her heart felt like a bird stroked a feather across it. It was a strange feeling, but gave her a certain lightness of spirit that was new to her. As Luthias turned his attention to fishing for her, she stepped forward to the water's edge and let her nose fall to touch the water, her lips lapping lightly at the water. She could taste the fish in the water, though she had never caught one, even when she was able to see. The fact that Luthias was fishing for her was something none had ever taken a moment to do for her, in fact, few took time to notice the blind mare. Luthias stood stone still, a fairly large trout swam his way. He slowly lowered his head, letting his "whiskers" dangle and wave in the water. He had captured the trout's attention and the unsuspecting fish approached Luthias' waiting maw. His pupils dilated in the last few seconds before he struck at the fish with his arsenal of teeth. Luthias' aim was dead on, and the fish flapped wildly in his mouth. "I got one!" he told Luci with his voice muffled by the fish. He quickly smacked the fish on a rock, so it would not escape Luci. Luthias presented the fish to her, laying it at her feet on the river bank. Mewsings of An Angel D,: forgive my hiatus. tag

Lucinda couldn't help but laugh softly as the sound of loud splashing assailed her ears. And then Luthias' words reached her and she tittered softly. She had never felt quite so happy as she was now. It felt simple, and comfortable to be in the company of Luthias, like a welcoming warm breeze on a chill morning. When she heard a soft plop in front of her, and the pungent odor of fish reached her nose, she lightly leaned forward and, listening carefully for breath, pressed her nose to Luthias. "Thank you. It is not often I get to enjoy such a delicacy." Her smile broadened. Delicacy? Indeed. Unable to see left her to the whim of the climes, and she normally ate only grass or whatever else she could forage for. But being a Kelpi left her craving other delicious morsels, such as fish and clam. For Luthias to go out of his way to catch a fish just for her, well, it was an incredibly kind gesture in her (blind) eyes. Stepping back, a slightly dark hue upon her cheeks at the embarrassing gesture, she leaned down and lightly sniffed at the fish. Then in all the delicateness that was the noble-born, she began to eat, taking small bites and avoiding the pin-like bones that made up most of the fish. When she had finished, she giggled lightly and licked her lips. "This rare treat has made my day ever brighter, especially in your company." She said with a soft, happy sigh.
