3 Basic Rules
1. Show up. Several times a month post in clan forums or join clan crews. Anyone who will be absent, please sign out in the Leave thread. Inactive members who are not on leave may be removed, to keep the clan active.
2. Have fun. Find your joy and share it. We have members at all stages of zOMG and all ages on Gaia, from 2004 onwards. Everyone has something to offer. elika-chan is available to support non-clan threads of members. The clan will pay for her services unless the bumping becomes regular and substantial.
3. Support zOMG. This includes the game, the devs, and the users - clan members and others. When possible, offer an assist, but be tactful. (Minimum is one support activity a month - so participation can actually be met in a single day.)
An alternative will be required if you do not attend a Dev Meat a month. Try to attend at least once. (Yes, Meat is a pun, a play on words). One alternative - Monitor z!F (the zOMG forum) and report in a thread to the clan - important urls, comments. (More than one could do this.)
Service suggestions: Follow z!F and post links for clan Assist affiliates Meats/Parties - welcome guests Help with the clan zOMG manual Support a better Gaia Outreach/support of other players, clan members, self-development
Try to align any service commitment with personal goals and Heartfire's. Members with a * for sign-in completion get preference of choice for service assignment, training, crewing.
Meetings
1) Dev Meats - Meet with a zOMG game developer!
Getting there - zOMGaians UNITE!!! - Subscribe and check end of thread Friday afternoon. [ JK ] used to have weekly meats, usually at Noon or 2pm Pacific Time (GMT-8 ). He was head artist for zOMG until 2/2012, when zOMG was moved from development to maintenance mode. He was assigned to a new Gaia game in 2/12 and laid off, the last zOMG dev, in May 2/13.
Mavdoc's Meat is held at 5 pm Pacific Time on __________. Mavdoc was a zOMG dev until mid-2011, and has met with Gaians before that and weekly ever since. Getting to the right layer can be a problem. Try to arrive early.
Layers: Each server has 11 layers. Come early if you can to reach the layer of the meat. a) If one of us gets there, that person can crew the rest in to the layer of the Meat. Whisper to that person to crew you. (/username message) or (click on whisper, enter username on left and message on right) b) Click on a friend's dot on the map. c) Less reliable - walk in and out of null 11 times, checking each layer to see if the meat is there.
The Dev will speak in shout. These are mostly regulars and there can be hilarious shouting matches or parades at times. You never know quite what will happen. Sometimes a new feature will be announced or a problem solved. Devs will try to answer questions.
[ JK ] often ended his with an epic spawn of super-powerful monsters...I ducked out first, so my aged laptop didn't freeze in shock...
A transcript was generally available soon after, here: (link to be added). Mavdoc often has more time to answer questions, and I would like to have a transcript thread for his meats, too. ( If anyone knows how they do that, tell me? - jelly.)
2) Ask-the-Staff discussions are held on Tuesdays and sometimes address zOMG issues. Please attend at least once, to know how to reach one and how it works.
Getting there - Ask-the-Staff - Each Tuesday. Platonix keeps a thread with important points in a single post for each meeting: AskED The Staff: Answer Compilation.
The meeting is fast-paced and has a definite format. If you go with a question, make it brief and direct, and have it ready to paste in when the meeting thread opens. Most questions on page 1 get answered, if simple and direct. Better yet, submit questions a week ahead.
3) Clan Meetings - as needed.
Towns Meetingplace is 879 Barton, Towns 2. Once there, click on smartphone icon at base of screen, click Friends, jellykans, follow. (Or John Columbo.)
zOMG Meetingplace is by Mac Taggart statue, 1 screen or room left of VG Null. Clan server is always last one alphabetically.
Crews
Clan Server - Last one alphabetically.
Default timezone - GMT- 8 or Pacific Time (GMT-7 March to October), where gaiaonline admin is headquartered. Please try to list timezone, but always try Pacific Time first, if timezone is not given. Time zone converter is at top of clan homepage.
Advocacy
zOMG has some serious challenges, and Heartfire will be involved in advocacy for these issues. (We have a cartoonist.)
1. Clan chat has been mostly broken for quite a while. It is a major reason that many clans have gone inactive.
2.The new permanent chat rooms are for guilds only- why? A clan must purchase a chat room for 3 days or weekly, which becomes very expensive very quickly. (Three days = 10k, 7 days = 20k, 5 weeks would pay for a permanent chat room if a clan had the right to buy one.)
3. Glitches and broken features have caused many to leave zOMG.
4. zOMG must create profit for gaiaonline to pay for its developers: State of zOMG/DMS/FAQ - Panagrammic
5. We need people to monitor z!F (zOMG forum) and post info and link to any useful news or changes.
6. As of February 2012, zOMG is officially on maintenance - it is no longer in development. This means that no new content or features will be added. Current situation with zOMG! Also see our Communications for additional links and The Official Unofficial Saving Meat - page 9, post 4 on future planning for zOMG.
As f 3/13/17, zOMG is back. The only area up for development is the one Mavdoc worked on but was never made. There is no target date.
WHAT HEARTFIRE IS NOT:
Some claim that 'finishing the game' (reaching maximum CL) has caused many to abandon the game. But anyone can lower their CL to increase challenge. DMS is wonderful - but the devs cannot pop out new areas in time to stay ahead of the player who only wants to reach the 'end.' Heartfire s not the place for someone who only wants to reach the end as fast as possible and leave.
WHAT HEARTFIRE IS:
Heartfire clan is public. Anyone can visit the clan. Voting is member-only. Contests are open only to clan members, unless otherwise stated. (Weekend raffles are open to all who attend.)
Chicken Run! - How Heartfire came to have a mascot, a Geh geh and 3 Mei mei's STORY - History/Backstory (truth or myth?) - more coming soon. Heartfire Public Thread - Banner available in 5th post.

RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS & OFFICERS
Rights
You represent Heartfire, as Heartfire represents you. Let your relationships be ones of mutual respect. Each member has the right to be respected and to receive a fair hearing and appeals process for any problem.
Responsibilities
Each Member (also see Teamwork below):
Show up, have fun, support zOMG! See the previous post for details.
You can only be in one clan at a time. This is because of the clan chat feature. When it is working, you can speak to any person in the clan anywhere in zOMG. There are usually 3 servers operating at any one time, and when they filll, each server can split into layers - 11 layers to each server, so that is 33 levels of zOMG possible at most times. Layers split out when a server fills. This is common during events - a holiday feature or event within zOMG or a Dev Meat. Sadly, clan chat is generally broken - one of the areas that needs advocacy.
You can crew another person to your own layer. [Or you can whisper someone to recrewt you to their layer. (See details in the post above.) While Towns will also split, there is no feature to draw anyone to another layer/zipcode.] You can also click on a friend's dot on the map to join their layer. Or you can walk in and out of null up to 11 times, checking each time for dots on the rmap, to find the right layer. Crewing is the most reliable method, clicking a dot is the easiest.
Participation requirement - post or sign in for a crew at least twice a month. Also, attend at least one Dev Meat. Then attend at least monthly or choose another way to adovcate for zOMG. Monitoring the z!F, the zOMG Forum, for the clan is one choice. (Details in previous post.)
If you are unable to meet the participation requirement, sign out in the Leave thread (and renew that if needed.) This will help keep our clan active. Anyone inactive without leave is subject to removal. They may rejoin the clan at a later date.
Members must follow ToS at all times. Basically, respect yourself and others. Try to be semi-literate (minimize chatspeak and avoid l33t, particularly outside of chatterbox). You aren't 'being graded,' the goal is clarity.
Friends of Heartfire
These are not members, but are the first to crew after members. (See Crew link in 1st post.)
Crew Leader (in zOMG)
The Crew Leader gives directions and may assign roles or buffs. This is your field officer, whether it is a clan crew-leader or someone recruiting a pick-up crew. The Crew Leader is to be respected and their orders followed. If there is a serious problem, you can always leave a crew. Hopefully, that does not happen often. See the complaint thread if this occurs within the clan.
Crew Member (officer)
A Crew Member in any guild or clan has the ability to invite members, view current join requests, and to view logs. You must be a Crew Member to mod clan forums.
Vice Captain
A Vice Captain can also promote Members to Crew, and send out announcements.
Captain
The Captain can also promote a Crew Member to Vice Captain, and operates the full clan controls. The Captain makes final decisions, sets policy with the officers, coordinates activities and coverage for responsibilities.
A Vice Captain must be demoted to leave a clan, and a Captain must promote someone else to Captain in order to leave.
Teamwork (All Members)
The goal is to share tasks so that at least two Vice Captains are fully trained at any one time. The reality may not meet the goal at all times, but we will work towards that. Likewise, we will try to train someone as an alternate for each clan responsibility.
To truly learn something at mastery level, you need to do the initial learning, teach it to someone else, and then teach someone to teach. If you can do that without too much error creeping in, you have mastered the subject. Not everyone seeks mastery, no one masters everything, but do understand the process.
Training another person to do something often takes longer than doing it yourself, but learning how to train is something else that should become familiar in this clan. In the apprenticeship system, the new apprentices are just learning. Then they become journeymen and teach, and then they become masters and teach journeymen how to teach. That is the practice I want to see established here in Heartfire.
General Information:
Donations of gold or items to the clan should be sent to the clan contest mule, HeartfirePrize. Please label the trade "Anon" if you do NOT want to receive a public acknowledgement.
Clans and guilds are similar, but clans are free and a guild costs 20k gold. Both are limited on how they can spend the funds donated on the homepage. That gold can only be used to buy sub-forums and send out announcements, except a guild can now buy a permanent chat room and a clan cannot.
Forum differences Clan/guild forums are an older style than public forums: There is no tip feature. The Reply button is only at the top and there is no Quick Reply. Added 2013. Post style and Post Action appear at the upper right of the Reply Box, not at the bottom. BBCode varies slightly, as it does between features. (A link to a same-page post is not done the same way, I am unsure about shortening a url.)
Thread transfers A thread can be moved within a clan or guild by an officer. A public thread can be moved to another public forum by a mod. Clan/guild forums are not quite the same as public forums, and you cannot transfer a thread between them.

BANNERS
How Do You Find the Clan?
You can find the clan easily if you go to the MyGaia tab, hover, and click on Gaia Labs on the lower right of the drop-down menu. Go down the page to Powerusers' Menubar and click activate. Now clan search will show up on the drop-down menu for Forums. And a link to your own clan.
At present Heartfire cannot be reached through clan search (on the left side of the guilds page or on the menu mentioned above, for people not in a clan). I will continue to check on that. You may also reach the clan by clicking on the banner at upper left of my profile - it's open, and jelly's news at top middle is updated often.
You can also add your clan to quick links.
Banners
We have 7 official clan banners plus the One Heart postage stamp - sized one not to use without clearance from the captain, as it will serve a special purpose.
