Information




This section is charged with organizing the vast amount of information gathered by the agents in Section 3 as well as documenting the history of the GiB and of Gaia itself. The agents working here must be efficient and organized, with a love of history and its preservation for future generations. The GiB Information Database is available for all Gaians to use and as such, classified information must be kept elsewhere.

This thread will be used as a base of operations for coordinating Database and Archive organization efforts. Please remain on topic. Chat should be kept to a minimum for now.

Application Process
To apply for placement in Section 4, simply fill out this form and PM it to the section head, listed above. Applicants should be willing and able to organize information so that the average person can easily read and understand it. You must be able to write clearly and concisely and a reasonable grasp of the English language is a must. Keeping track of Gaia's history as well as that of our own organization is a big job and we in S4 take it quite seriously.

Alright... So I'm thinking the first thing I want to do is update the Plot Continuity Guide. Also, the index needs updating and the threads for each year should be continued.

Other ideas I have include condensing the event threads into one thread per holiday and making a thread just for the GiB, and another for the entire Zurg plot with all the information like the peace treaty in there. We could make individual threads for each of the four main factions, but I'm not sure that's necessary.

Thoughts? (feel free to disagree if you have a different/better idea)

What do you mean by 'condensing the event threads into one thread per holiday'? Like how I've been doing it or....?

Like have one thread for Halloween and copying all the current Halloween threads into that one, then continuing to add on to it each year. That would keep everything in order. It could even be set up so that each year is on its own page for easier searching. It's just an idea, though. I'd like feedback before doing anything.

Honestly I feel that would make it an unorganized mess. What if you need to add something? Or if someone wanted to input something but can't because it's a past year and would mess up the order? It would be all clumped together in a mess...

I like how each year and holiday event has it's own thread, that way people can post input without screwing up the organization. I usually give those threads reserved posts in case more needed to be added.

I feel exactly the opposite. Having them all in order in one thread would make it easier to find what you're looking for rather than having to search through the Database. The forum format that we have to use makes it too easy for things to get mixed up.

I see no reason why anyone would need to add anything to the holiday/event threads. I don't plan on allowing anyone outside S4 to post in the Database at all anymore (at least not without prior permission and approval). Now that we have a section dedicated specifically to the Database and Archives, we really don't need anyone else posting there. If they want to be a part of it, they can join the section easily enough.

Anyway, I don't want to seem overly bossy or anything, so if you feel that strongly about the event threads, we'll leave them as they are.

I'm gonna have to agree with Eruravenne on this one. Posts can always be edited to include more information. The only complication is if you wanted to have a separate post for each year. There are two different ways to handle that: 1, We could lock the official thread, and then have a separate thread that anyone can post to. Then crew members can add that info to the official thread by editing the posts. 2, you could reserve posts for the existing years, as well as several years in the future. For instance, if you reserved an entire page of posts, people could still post after you with new info, and we'd still be set for the next... 14 years, is it? razz

I don't know if we should consolidate the entire zurg plot into one thread, but I'd like to make one that covers all the Zurg NPCs, from 01-12 and Mother. Then we could delete the ones dedicated to individual zurg.
This thread would have less "order" issues than the Halloween one--I'd just need to reserve 13 posts, one for each NPC, and people could post additional info afterwards, which can be added to my main posts by crew members.

Well, as I mentioned in my previous post, I don't think anyone needs to be posting in the Database aside from S4 members anymore. So other people posting shouldn't be an issue. We can set up a submission thread or something if need be, but S3 and S4 should really be the only people involved in information handling. That may seem overly exclusive, but I think it will help keep order. Of course, Zi would have to agree (I haven't asked yet) and nothing is set in stone right now, so we'll see what happens.

I was also toying with the idea of having a S4 mule to post all these threads with, so all members will be able to edit all the posts and threads, including future members and we won't have to worry about redoing everything if someone leaves. What do you guys think of that?

And is there any particular reason you think it's not a good idea to have the whole Zurg plot in one thread? Also, I want to make an NPC thread that will have information on all of Gaia's NPCs, including the Zurg. I was thinking it would be good to have a thread for the Zurg, another for G-Corp, for S-Corp, The Von Helsons, B.O.O. and S.I.N., etc. I prefer the idea of having everything relevant to a subject being all in the same thread because of the previously mentioned issue of the threads getting mixed up in the forum.

I didn't intend to suggest that. I meant to preserve the way they're set up now, but have them all in one thread instead of spread out in several different ones. Having one year per page would be ideal, actually. Any remaining posts on a page can be reserved for whatever you want.

I don't want anything done yet until we have a more solid plan, though. I wouldn't want to waste time and effort on something that may end up being changed.

You could link to your threads perhaps, and make a condensed version for the big thread.

That way, people can get a simple over view--and for more detail, they can explore your threads.

This over view thread could be stickied--for maximum visibility.

I got approval for the section mule, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a good name. I would have to be Agent something or other. Any suggestions?

So far, I've thought of Agent KIA (for know-it-all... or killed in action... sweatdrop ) and Agent Data (which is possibly too Star Trek-y... neutral ). My creativity seems to be taking an extended vacation at the moment.
