For the most part I'd like to keep our battle system simple. Really simple. Mind numbingly simple. For our purposes, we will be using predetermination with a backup/augment of a 1-20 roll.

Essensially there are Two Types of Battles. Senshi vs NPCs. (Us vs monsters, Us vs villians, ect) and Senshi vs Senshi.

Predetermination:

For the majority of fights, the ultimate outcome of each fight will be predetermined based on Story development. Knowing the outcome ahead of time, gives everyone the ability to RP the fight to be interesting, rather then to "win". You can base decisions on what will make the story interesting rather then what might put you in a position to win.

In Main RPs the crew will make this decision, in Side RPs, it will either be made by the Thread owner (Usually for Senshi vs NPC), or negotiated in tells between participants (Usually for Senshi vs Senshi). When an agreement cannot be made, a single 1-20 roll can be done.

Augmenting with a roll:

Using the 1-20 roll is NOT required, but may be used by the Thread owner as a tool to make decisions about a monster fight. In Senshi vs Senshi, a simple opposed roll can decide who wins before the RPing the of the fight occurs.

In Senshi vs Monster fights, when not important to story line, the order in which enemies go down, who gets knocked out before the end of the fight or who gets the killing blow, etc can be decided with a simple 1-20 roll done in the first post of each RPer.

Effects of that roll are totally up to the person running the encounter, and can either be pm'd to you in the form of instructions for posting, or as a request for text to insert into the monsters death and/or action posts.

Example: Sailor Orange and Yellow both roll really well. Green rolls a 1. Sailor Black is running the thread and sends tells to Orange and Yellow.

Quote:
In Tells: "Sailor Orange, you rolled 2nd highest, so you're gunna set up the killing blow. Give me a paragraph to put in the death post. "

In Tells: "Sailor Yellow, you rolled highest, so you're gunna get the killing blow. Give me a paragraph to put in the death post"

After watching the fight go on awhile, and having collected Sailor Orange and Yellows responses, Sailor Black Moon posts the Death Post.
Quote:

"The great beast begins to falter. He shakes his head in frustration. Sailor Orange brings down a Orange slushy on the beasts head blinding it before kicking it in the chest, knocking it on it's a**
Sailor Yellow follows it up with a lightning bolt directly to the beasts heart, it wails in pain and drops to the ground dead. "

Or can be revealed in RP, like with Sailor Green rolling a 1.
Quote:

"The Beast brings down his claw squarely on Sailor Green, knocking her into the corner, unconscious"

(Alternatively, Sailor Green can be PMd instructions to take a dive... giving her a chance to get one last hit in, or say something dramatic)

Either way the person running the battle is in charge of either doing the "Death Post", [the post in which the Monster/NPC dies/is chased away], or granting one of the participants permission to do so. Giving permission does not have to be done right away, but can wait until you're satisfied with the length of the fight.

In Senshi vs Senshi Battles are a little different. Like Senshi vs Monster battles, they work best if the outcome is predetermined based on story. Failing that, 1 v 1 battles can be predetermined via a simple opposed roll. In which case the two combatants can duke it out in the most interesting way possible.

Battles involving more senshi, can be determined by having all senshi involved roll. The team with the highest roller, wins. Senshi leave the battle in order of the lowest roll to the highest. In the event of an outnumbered team winning the roll, all shall endevor to RP it out in a interesting and believable way.

Disclaimers:

When I say take a dive, I mean get knocked unconsious, or be forced out of hte fight somehow. No one die-dies unless it's a pre-planned story element, and never against their will.

Additionally, this is not the sort of system where, as RPrs you always know X, Y and Z are going to happened because so and so rolled a, b and c. Story elements take priority. The author is likely to have pre-determined ideas about things that will happen during a fight. It's not unconcievable that the person who rolls lowest might get a killing blow because the story pre-planned it that way. Logic also plays a roll. If it's a lighting monster who's immune to lighting, and you only do lightening damage...you can roll a 20 and probably not get the killing blow. Which is why it's important you wait for instructions before doing a kill post.

Edited 1/9/2012 to clarify and to convert to an explanation instead of a decision post.

So we are gonna roll and you will edit our posts according to what we pm'd you?

No editing needed really.

Ok lets say the Thread owner throws a monster at yall. RAWR.

In [OOC:] she notes the eventual outcome of the fight is the monster is going to be destroyed, but asks you to roll d20.

Now you start RPing it out however you like, but in your first post you do a roll.

The thread owner can now interpret that however he likes to dictate the flow of the fight. If everyone rolls real well, he might allow the monster to go down without much of a fight. If you all roll poorly, he might decide some of you are gunna get knocked out first, or that the fights gonna drag on and on. If one person rolls a 1 and the rest roll 20s, that person might get smacked around before the beasts dies.

Untill you get instructions, you RP it normally with the understanding that you do not KILL the monster until told.

Depending on what the thread owner wants to happen, He can make this happen in one of two ways. either he can PM you with instructions. Or he can use his own posts to describe what happens to you.

Sounds all good to me. Hopefully we won't be doing too much senshi vs. senshi stuff for Season 2 and beyond, but you never know. xp
