A brisk chill fills a forest denuded in the early winter. The frost recently burned off the ground by the sun now only an hour from its zenith. A gentle wind plays with the brown leaves on the forest floor while stronger gusts push the tops of the empty trees.

Pele had spent the morning listening to the wind in the branches. The gentle clicking as they brushed against each other, bare in the early winter chill made a pleasant percussion that called to her. Her hooves tripped and skipped and flew as she danced, following the spots of shadow cast by naked trees.

Softly, Pele sang, her voice wordless as she blended it seamlessly into the sounds of rustling leaves and calling birds. Her wings extended and twisted, folding and furling as she dipped and swayed. This was what it was to be alive, to be one with the world.

She lost track of anything around her except as it added to her dance and her song. The shifting light as clouds scuddled across the sun became a quickening of step, a twisting jump with a few great beats of her wings to dance in the air for a moment before landing with studied grace. The distant yip of a fox was echoed in her music, creating an echo of joyful discovery. Pele didn't notice when she was no longer alone. She didn't see her watcher, anything that wasn't a part of her art was lost to her immersion in note and form.

The young stallion had decided he was to go on a great adventure. It wasn't something he had put much planning in to, but it was something he had wanted to do for a long while. With his sister gone on great adventures overseas, and his brother having long since garnered independence on his own, it was Sunny who had found himself the only one stuck at home.

It wasn't that his parents didn't treat him well, or even seemed to mind him lingering at home. They gave him endless amounts of love and support, and sometimes Sunny secretly imagined them enjoying his presence. He was the son that hadn't yet flown the proverbial coop, and for awhile that was all right. Oh, he sometimes would walk well past the borders of their territory, but he never stayed out late and was always back grazing at the beaches tough grasses. . .

But it was winter now. The family had moved to their secondary home, further inland where the ocean could ride out its wrath and cold without doing them harm. While Sunny preferred the soft beaches and tide-pools as his home, he understood why they relocated for the winter months. Especially with his mothers vertigo and his own clumsy nature. It was better this way, slightly warmer even amidst the frosts and snow. . . . There was less exposure to the elements tucked away in the woods, and of course, they were much closer to the rest of his relatives.

A few days prior, Sunny had decided to leave. He told his parents not to worry if he roamed, that he would return, but he wanted to do some exploring on his own. Picking a direction, at random, the stallion had left home without looking back . . .

The woods he roamed were unfamiliar to him, but pleasant enough. The bite in the air had been lessened by the winter sun, and everything seemed at peace. The wind played with the naked tree limbs, and an occasional winter bird sang its song. Winter was, perhaps, Sunny's least favorite time of year but there was something clean and sterile about the cold. There was beauty even among the dead trees and grasses, something that spoked of rejuvenation. As he picked his way through the woods, something caught his eye.

A flash of color could be seen dodging in and out of the woods. It was far ahead, but clearly stood out against the shadow and dull tones of winter's woods. Sunset Sarsparilla couldn't help but be drawn closer to the source, trying to figure out who or what it might be. Whatever it was, it moved swiftly yet at random, in and out, even up and down. . . . He caught sight of what appeared to be both feathers and hair. A . . soquili!?

Sunny hadn't met another soul on his journey, even if he had noted unfamiliar scents and hoof prints. But this was the first one he'd actually noticed. What on earth was she doing though? It was the strangest sort of motions and movements he'd ever seen. . . and something he wasn't sure he could mimic. Bridging the distance between Pele and himself, he clearly saw she was a vibrant (and unusual) coated mare. . . . But he kept quiet, and waited to see if she might notice him.

Did he interrupt her . . . dance? Or did he wait until she finished? Oh bother, which would be more rude? Staring or interrupting!? Maybe leaving home wasn't the wisest choice he'd ever made. . . . At least there he knew the rules.

Pele's dance follows the skittering of leaves, the gentle sigh of the wind. She moves with a grace belied by her form. Every part of her is alive with movement, even her mane and tail streaming in the wind seem a part of her dance. This is not a performance, it is a celebration of life. She has lost herself in her movement, her form, her style. Buoyed by the wind, her wings giving her jumps height, she spins and flips and dives. Her hooves touch lightly as she scatters more leaves into the wind as she dances through wind blown piles of brown. Her voice is haunting as it wraps itself around the wind, singing the eery death of autumn. Pele doesn't notice anything that isn't a part of her dance or her music.

User Image Demon has lingered in these woods for too long, his mind was growing weary of the now-familar lands, but they were a far cry from those he had called home. Still, he had a purpose, one that he must fulfil and as swiftly as possible. Cherish had been taken, unacceptable by any standards... she was HIS and those things that he claimed could never leave his side; unless he had disowned them. In this case she hadn't left, she had been stolen... but that just made the crime greater against those who believed they could steal her away. It was for this reason that Demon planned to get her back, and while he was at it he planned to make the strike so swift but deadly against them that they wouldn't have time to blink let alone thing as he stole Cherish back.

He grinned, the extended fangs of his mouth making the motion look more like a snarl, the very idea of getting Cherish back was a pleasing one. And one he hoped to indulge in very soon. But for his cause he needed fighters... that was why he was here, he had been listening to rumors and whispers on the wind and come across the name Miakoda. It was believed that there were several strong warriors there, but they were 'pure' of mind.... so Demon had come up with a plan to force their corruption. He would kidnap one of their creatures under their protection and then blackmail them to assist him in his cause... or kill his stolen victum. Swift and to the point. The problem? After observing the herd for hours at a time he had yet to find an opportunity. Several times a large black starry coated Angeni had come close to catching him... too soon, this was a game that required the perfect timing and Patience... and Demon was swiftly running out of both.

That was... until today. His grin grew wider. He had watched from the shadows as a colourful mare had literally danced her way away from the protection of everyone. Alone and vunderable... exactly how Demon liked them. Still, he had to hold himself back... to act too quickly would bring the attention of her protectors forth before he was ready. Before it was time. It was killing him to wait, but the hunt was no on.

From the deep shadows he lingered close enough to her that he could watch her every move, but not close enough that she could spot him. His dull colours allowed him to blend with the bark of the trees, and with a practised grace he walked with near silence.

Demon continued to watch, and noted someone else watching his little prey.... a stallion from the size, but not one he recognised. He grinned, perhaps he would get a meal and a show this day? How.... interesting.

Sunny had never before witnessed someone dancing in such a manner and fashion. Certainly, he knew of dancing, and had even done such a thing as a young colt with his sister. Ziggy was good about getting him involved, even if it often left him looking a bit like a fool. But while his blue gaze fell upon Pele, there was something magical about the way she seemed to move -- no dance compared to the way she fluttered delicately upon the wind, sweeping up the leaves as if they too were wrapped up in her chorus.

And that song!

The stallions ears had pricked and turned, coming to the realization that she was singing. Her voice was haunting, though the melody wasn't sad or glum. It seemed to speak of . . something. The nearness of winter, the end of autumn. Honestly, there were no words, but the music twisted and swayed just as the source mimicked with her body. Honestly, it was a sight Sunset Sarsparilla had never seen, and likely would never, see again.

Deciding it best not to be rude, the stallion simply lingered. While he looked at the wind now and again, he did his best to keep an eye out on the surrounding land as well. He honestly didn't want to be caught staring after all, or gaping like some strange fool. He had more manners than that, thank you very much. The whole world seemed intent on the mysterious mares form; the birds were still, the winds minor, and everything seemed at rest. It was only by pure chance, with a small gust of wind, that Sunny even recognized an unfamiliar scent. . .

And one that wasn't the mares.

He didn't think much of it at first, and it was only as an after thought that the pale stallion realized it was of another soquili. So there was another out there, perhaps also enjoying the song and dance of the wind mare. Leave it to Sunny to completely forget his training and words of caution. The odds of it being someone of mean blood or cruelty seemed slim for the stallion, so while alert, and allowing his gaze to look through autumn's foliage now and again, hoping to spot the source, he kept his regard relaxed and the majority of his attention on Pele.

Pele was beginning to slow. She allowed the dance to flow into the softer movements of winter, the song into the quieter tones of evening. She hated to leave the dance, to leave the world she could create with music and form. But no matter how much she wanted, her body could not dance forever.

It was times like these she envied the wind, able always to move and swirl, to carry itself endlessly. Still in the glow of the dance, she continues to step, sway, turn. But the leaping, spinning, bounding has fallen to tired muscles and a throat growing sore with a need for water.

Still wrapped in the magic of movement and voice, Pele doesn't notice her audience at first as she slowly begins to take in the world around her again. Blinking, she catches a pale form against the outlined trees as she takes another graceful step in her slowing dance. The sight of a stallion gives Pele pause. Stopping, her right foreleg bent, left straight in front of her, head bowed low in a dip that was meant to be continued, Pele realizes the pale male has been standing there, still, for some time.

"Oh," Pele's voice manages before catching in a throat dry with singing. Distracted from the music, she loses the push that kept the song going. Clearing her throat, twice, she manages to get her voice working again as she stands awkwardly. "Ah, hi?"

Demon watched with disguist at the scene before him... and on any other day he would probably have marhced out there, snapped his teeth and struck one or both of them with his wings before charging off simply because he wanted to break up the scene.... ok, so they hadn't actually spoken to each other yet, but the look on both of their faces was enough to upset his stomach. There was no way he had ever been like that with Cherish.... though it was possible he was in denial, as far as his mind would process Cherish was HIS possession, and unless he deemed otherwise that would always be the case... he just happened to have a strong attachment towards it/her.

It took a lot of effort for Demon to keep still, not wanting to give his opportunity up so easily, or his position for that matter. His cause was to great to throw away.

For that reason Demon stayed still and simply watched... for now at least. He scented the wind and wanted to curse, anyone worth their salt would have scented him on the wind... and surely they would smell the lingering scent of blood that always clung to him.

Unfortunately for both Pele and Demon, while he was large thanks to the mutant blood that ran through his veins, and could hold his own against rivals in theory . . . .he'd never had much exposure outside the trials of his own father and grandfather. He'd sparred, he'd gone through the motions on how to protect, but he'd never exactly found need to fall back on such abilities. So while the winds weren't heavy, and the scent of blood might tickle ones nostrils, Sunny hadn't quite put two-and-two together.

Right now, his senses were only on the peculiar wind that was before him. The way she had moved, her body rising and falling with the wind, motions transforming from one to another in a dance he'd never seen before. It was strangely fascinating to witness such a thing. He'd never seen his sister sway to the motion of the breeze, or pick herself up and down in such fluidity. It was like she was floating on her hooves. . . and though she was a wind, there was something much more beautiful in her actions.

Unfortunately, she stopped. And as the ebony haired mare looked up, blinking at him, he realized that she had stopped because he was the sort.

Drat it all! The stallion suddenly felt very self-conscious, and his ears flattened in a moments embarrassment. Dipping his head some, Sunny found himself put on the spot and gave his tail a flick of uncertainty. "Uh. . er. . . hello! I uh. . I didn't mean to interrupt your dancing. I just . . uh. . never saw anything like that before!" He found himself rambling, offering a small smile to the other. He wasn't usually a shy sort, but he was caught off guard by the suddenness, and felt bad for causing her to stop in her movements.

Maybe he shouldn't have lingered.

((I'll likely have him realize someone else is nearby in the next post, unless Demon makes an obvious move. Haha. xD Sorry, Sunny's distracted today. ))

Pele wasn't the most social of Soquili, but she knew body language. The stallion who had been watching her in rapt fascination turned shy and unassuming. An ear flicked as she gave a half smile to the stranger.

Her sides heaving slightly as her body continued to work to get air in to fill lungs strained by dancing, Pele's skin quivered to dissuade a horsefly who thought it had found a lovely meal. "I don't mind that you watched, I was startled that you were there. I don't notice much when I'm dancing."

Her nostrils flare as she breathes, noticing something on the breeze, a smell that doesn't seem to belong to the place. But Pele doesn't understand its meaning or the warning it should carry and she dismisses it without ever thinking after the source.

Demon couldn't decide what to do.... strike or throw up. It was rather... sickening. With a roll of his eyes and a swish of his tail he finally decides he can not take anymore of this.

Not wanting to simply jump out with wings spread and teeth bared in a very 'I'M HERE' pose he decided to try a different approach. It didn't take him long to move through the forest so that he was soon between the pair... they both seemed so distracted that he wasn't sure either had heard or noticed the soft snapping of a twig; it was a foolish mistake, his hooves usually found their way with silent purpose but he was distracted. The need for this to go right, for him to have his leverage to gain another warrior too important to mess up.

Cherish.... it took only a moment to summon her image to his mind, and even less time for it to vanish and be replaced by sheer determination.

Now was the time to act, for something could change if he delayed too long.

A deep breath.
A spread of wings.
A snarling of teeth.
A kick.
A jump.
And he wasslightly airborne, gliding just above the ground with menacing intent as he comes to land just beside the wind mare that had been dancing.

It took only a moment to get into position, and only a moment longer for him to bring his tail up to her throat. "Stay still." He hissed.

Uta
Distracted is fine sometimes hehehe. Plus I don't think Demon would have appreciated being discovered too early XD hehhee

LydaLynn
Hey hun... would you mind adding Demon to the first post? He already has 100% stats... XD but it just bugs me that he is a ? hehehe. Yes I am weird o.O and have slight OCD.

Pele startled. Suddenly there was something entirely too close. Something snarling with fangs and horns and glowing eyes. A tentacle, no tail, wrapped around her throat and an order to stay still.

Pele's eyes are wide, white visible around all the edges as she struggles against instincts to buck and kick and flee. But this stallion was big and nasty and dangerous. And she was rather terrified. She wasn't sure what he might do if she moved, but she wasn't wanting to find out.

Pele looked pleadingly at the strange stallion she had been talking to. Had he been a lure to get her guard down? He hadn't even offered his name. But he seemed startled too. She couldn't really hope that he would do anything against the evil that held her, but maybe he would find her Father. Though it was a distant hope, after all, he didn't have her name either.

This wasn't how things were supposed to go at all! He hadn't meant to disturb the mare and her dancing, though he felt a bit like a fool interrupting her. He wanted to apologize, or at least make up for pausing her dance, and yet he found his tongue being unable to move. Furthermore, he knew he should be polite and introduce himself, he just wasn't exactly a smooth talker.

He wasn't shy, far from it really, but what could he say? His name! He could introduce himself, obviously that would be the best thing to go about this meeting. Yes, he would introduce himself, and then - - -

A snarl. A brush of wings, and suddenly the entire day got turned upside down. A kalona appeared, its tail at the others throat. Sunny involuntarily jerked back as the other appeared, his blue eyes going wide with surprise at the sight. The kalona was large, but Sunny was as well. The mutant blood that ran through him had skipped his father's generation, but had made him to be formidable in size. Unfortunately though, his only weapon was a pair of horns and the training he had been taught.

Never though had he thought he might have to use it!

Kalona were nasty creatures, and he had never actually seen one before. This particular sort, wrapped in ribbon, with drooling fangs was perhaps the ugliest sight he had ever seen! And it obviously didn't look very friendly.

Oh gods. . . .

While Sunny was perhaps a bit slow, he came from a long line of proud individuals. And he did not tolerate evil in any form. Nostrils flaring, the stallion's eyes narrowed in a glare. Unfortunately though, he had the mare at a distinct advantage. If he attacked, his tail could wring her neck. "Let her go." He knew it was a weak response, but he needed to figure out a plan. Kalona were proud creatures, weren't they? "I warn you, remove yourself or . . . face the . . consequences." He knew he sounded silly, but he couldn't make a move until Demon released the mares neck. And though his words were hesitant, the will behind them was strong.

He wasn't leaving.

Pele was almost surprised when the pale stallion spoke in her defense. It wasn't as commanding as her adoptive father would have spoken, but he wasn't abandoning her.

For all that she mostly ignored the lessons in defense and protective fighting, too busy wanting to dance, Pele could tell this kalona had the advantage. She admired the courage of the other, but wondered what he might do.

Resolving that if she could, she would at least move out of immediate threat range so her defender could attack without fear of what would happen to her, Pele watches for an opening.

Demon raised an eyebrow at the pale stallion's responce. It was rather pathetic in his opinion and he couldn't resist the taunting words that escaped his lips. "I am so scared..." He tightened his grip on the dancing mares neck, just enough to make his point, "...I am practically shaking with fear" Throughout his life he had heard mothers tell their children not to play with their food, but his mother had always encouraged it. He licked his fangs, rather enjoying himself.

Though even as his enjoyment surged he had to try and force himself to remember his goal. The bigger picture. He needed the delicate creature in his grasp alive... or else it would never work. That meant controlling himself... easier said than done when he had a habit of inpulsive behavour. Even as that thought came to mind he couldn't resist placing his nose on the mares head, just near her ear, caressing her simply to annoy the pale stallion. "Don't worry... I only mean to borrow her." He purred each word into her ear.

His mind tried to figure out the next step. He saw several options but each was flawed.
1) Drag her away.... but the Pale stallion was likely to follow.
2) Deal with the Pale stallion... but then the girl was likely to escape.
3) Wring her neck to unconciousness... but he could kill her.
4) Use his black magic.... but it didn't always take effect immediatly and both of them seemed very healthy and strong, meaning they would fight it for a while.

Demon was running out of time.... and his mind churned with his indecision. What should he do?
