As we are all keenly aware, the holidays are coming up. And somewhat past, what with Thanksgiving today and all. But there's still Winter Break, Christmas, Hanukkah, and other winter-related things to celebrate.
So, what's your take? Do you love the holidays, or are you a scrooge? Are you doing anything interesting over Winter Break?

I love Christmas, which may seem ironic, since I'm an atheist. However, I'd say that Christmas is about an 85% secular holiday these days, anyway. It's all about joy, cheer, candy canes, presents, fir trees, etc. The only time I'm ever reminded that it's a nominally Christian holiday is when I see a nativity scene or hear a Christmas song that actually references Christian mythology in some way.
To me, it's just a warm, happy winter holiday. And what's not to like about that?
Not doing anything interesting, though. Just a couple quiet weeks with the family.

I'm a bit of a scrooge. sweatdrop After Halloween, I'm pissed off constantly until about New Year's.
I'm the oldest in my family, and so all the responsibilities of Christmas and Thanksgiving usually fall on my shoulders--because my family is kinda lazy. Sooooooo.... if I don't do everything--it doesn't get done--and everyone will be pissed--so instead I do everything--and I'm the only one pissed.
It works out--but I'm usually pretty angry the entire time.
This year, I did not cook Thanksgiving dinner (for once)---- which was nice--but then I got yelled at for not cleaning everything up. So I ended up cleaning up after the twenty odd people in the house. By my self. WHile my a** hole brother (whom I love dearly), acted like he was helping.
I hate the holidays <3
I do get nice stuff, though--Santa appreciates all the s**t I do to make Christmas work, I guess.

C'mon now guys, you're letting the atheist show you up in the holiday cheer department.
Though, it sounds like you have your reasons...

I love Christmas! It's my second favorite holiday next to Halloween. All the sparkly decorations and making sugar cookies and eating sugar cookies and listening to Christmas music and giving gifts and caroling and drinking hot chocolate and going out to look at Christmas lights and soooo much mint flavored stuff and SNOW (if we're lucky)! emotion_kirakira
I enjoy all the other holidays as well, but not nearly as much as Halloween and Christmas, and not just because those are the big Gaia event holidays. xd
One of my dreams in life is to go to Disney World during Christmas time to see it all decorated. It won't be this year, though. *wistful sigh* This year, I'll be doing what I always do. Acting as official gift-wrapper for everyone in my entire family. I'm apparently the only one who's good at it (or just the only one who's not lazy about it, lol) so everyone always asks me to wrap their presents for them. Except for the ones meant for me, of course. And those always end up looking... well, kind of a mess. sweatdrop

My family is Jewish though so I celebrate Hanukkah instead. My mom always makes brisket, though I always think it would be better if the meat was made from stem cells instead of a live animal. I also get to have potato pancakes. Those are shredded up potatoes that are fried. They are so delicious!!! Besides the food I get eight days of presents!!! I'm looking foward to all that. I also love the X-mas event on Gaia, I always participate. However I hated the one where we donated a ton of items to be burned for X-mas cheer. We only got tinsel from that. Oh well, those are my plans!!! Bye!!!

I love making Brisket, I use my grandmother's recipe.
I keep telling my parents I wanna make the latkes myself but they keep buying store-made ones and they don't taste as good gonk
I don't like the holidays cuz I'm always alone. Especially since I'm Jewish it's like I'm the lonely Jew on Christmas (cue: Kyle, South Park)
It was more fun when I was a kid when all of my friends were up here.

I think it'll catch on when they make it structuralized.

Eh..... the nonreligious parts of Christmas tend to make me angry sometimes. Not as much as with Easter. God. Why is Easter so stupid? This dude died in a horrid manner--so we celebrate by hiding eggs. WHat does that even mean?
Christmas I can forgive a little more, because at least we have *giving* involved.
But, damn.
Holidays.

I can see how that could get lonely. I had a group of close friends I made in college, but then we all graduated. Everyone but me left, and I stayed here for grad school. So it's been pretty lonely here, too. neutral Still, my brother's here in town if I need company, and honestly, I don't mind the solitude very much. And I am planning on spending Christmas back in my hometown with the family. Yeata Zi Eh..... the nonreligious parts of Christmas tend to make me angry sometimes. Not as much as with Easter. God. And Easter is "stupid" because it, like Christmas, is largely just a renamed Pagan holiday. Eggs are a holdover from Pagan spring festivals, in which they symbolized fertility, new life, and other Springy concepts.

I see my family, but yeesh, my parents are boring. My brother's married and his wife is almost always planning something for them to do. They promised we'd see them during the holidays and as it is I need to know when I can schedule when I'm gonna go visit my boyfriend. gonk
Most of my friends are where I went to undergrad.

They should just have two holidays instead of trying to force them together.

Yeata Zi Exactly. They should just have two holidays instead of trying to force them together. You do that, and the calendar will start to get a bit crowded. Plus, I think most people would forget about the boring Christian holidays that are all about sacrifice and sin and death, and just participate in the fun Pagan ones. blaugh
