It was a Sunday. Ordinarily, Sterling (and most other students) would head outdoors on a Sunday. However, a storm was passing over Hogwarts- and it was more than a light drizzle. The rain was torrential and, when passing a window, the wind could be heard howling outside. There was no way Sterling was going to play in that!
If he had known that the weather would be so terrible that day, Sterling would have saved his homework. Instead, he had hurried to complete it on Friday to free up his weekend! Now he was left with, as far as he knew, nothing to do. He almost couldn't wait until Monday, just so he could get back to something interesting!
Sterling wandered the halls, getting lost in them, but not really minding. Hogwarts was large, but he would be able to find his way back to a familiar area before the end of the day. He wasn't much of an explorer, but it was better than sitting around in the Great Hall, he supposed...

Elton was the total picture of misery as he stood with his nose pressed to a slightly grimy window staring out on the storming sky. Of all the days for it to storm it had to be on a Sunday! Rats. He sank lower, resting his chin on the palms of his hands, his elbows propped up against the window.
He could continue to wallow in despair over the weather or he could go about exploring the castle. It was a massive thing with many unexplored corners..who know what he might find. It would beat just standing around moping about the horrible weather.
There was that room that he had heard of, a room that would appear when one had abject need of it. He wondered if he could get it to appear. Though he wondered..just how needy one would have to be for it to appear. What was it called again? Oh right, The Room of Requirement.
With his head full of ideas of just what might appear to keep him entertained, he wandered off in search of the room. That is if one could really find said room just by thinking about it.

For the longest while, Sterling didn't bump into anyone. It was just as well- he was sure that anyone he ran into would be just as grumpy on such a rainy day! He tried not to stray too far from the normal areas, at least. If nothing else, Sterling was pretty good at tracking and finding his way back to where he needed to be!
As he walked alone, Sterling whistled to himself. He didn't need to impress anyone, so he didn't even bother acting like grown-up! His own whistling cheered him up a little, and he hopped across the cracks in the floor of the halls. As gloomy as it was outside, the Hufflepuff was having a merry enough time, traipsing about the halls all alone. It was sort of nice to be alone for a little while, away from roommates and other students, who would laugh if they saw him skipping around like a baby!
Sterling was startled by the sound of footsteps around a corner. He quickly rearranged himself, frozen in his spot for fear that the mystery person had seen him! It didn't take long for him to logic his way out of that one, but now he was curious as to whose company he was about to receive. Sterling peeked around the corner...

Elton should have been doing his homework he knew, but he really didn't care all that much about it. Homework was boring, and would have put him to sleep it if had attempted to deal with it on a rainy day. Exploring was a much better use of his time, especially with all the wonders Hogwart's had to offer a kid just learning about magic. One never knew what they'd find around the corner.
Elton paused and frowned, and looked around. A moment ago he could have sworn he had heard whistling..and the sound of skipping feet. Was he just hearing things? Or was there someone there.
"Hello?" He called softly, and listened as his voice echoed around him.
"Anyone there?"
When no one answered Elton shrugged and then paused to scrutinize some paintings on the wall. He laughed as he watched the people in the paintings running around and chasing each other. It was really awesome how pictures and paintings came alive in the magicking world, they sure beat regular pictures and paintings. It was almost like watching a movie.

Sterling saw the other boy and heard his voice, but was too nervous to respond immediately! He pursed his lips inward to keep quiet, wondering if he should go say hello. He was enjoying his day alone... But on the other hand, it would probably be more fun to explore the castle with someone to talk to! Maybe the would know more about it than he did, and he could learn something. If he was really lucky, he'd somehow be able to obtain some extra credit out of it...
He decided to go for it!
"Hey, wait!" Sterling said, rounding the corner. He found that the boy had paused to stare at the paintings on the wall. He quickly fell quiet, staring at his fellow student. "Oh... I'm sorry..."

Elton nearly jumped out of his skin when the boy came running from around the corner and yelled at him. "AHH!" he exclaimed jumping back and shooting a startled look at the other boy.
"Why'd you have to yell so loud?" He demanded holding his chest in alarm. "You nearly gave me a coronary!"
Elton took slow shallow breaths until his heart and blood slowed down and he could breath properly. "Well..that's an interesting way to introduce yourself," he murmured with one eyebrow quirked up. "I'm Elton. Are you exploring the castle too?" he asked curiously.

Sterling managed to conceal his giggles at the other boy's fright- he didn't know that he was so scary! Really, though, he was glad that he was okay, and not too angry with him either. For whatever reason, Sterling always expected the worst when it came to angering people!
Perhaps it was because of the dreary weather outside that Elton was willing to forgive him so readily. It was probably better to have a companion than an enemy while trapped indoors!
"Sterling!" he said, giving his name and slowly approaching Elton. "The weather's kind of gross, yeah? I guess you could say I'm exploring- not really finding much of anything interesting though... Have you?"

The other boy's giggling didn't escape him, despite the other's trying to conceal it. Elton raised an eyebrow and stared at him for a moment. "You didn't frighten me, you startled me. There is a difference." He huffed seriously and then started laughing himself.
"I bet I looked funny jumping like that. No worries, no harm done Sterling." He said reaching out to slap the other's back non to gently.
"It is quite horrid!" Elton exclaimed his brows furrowing as he glanced out the nearest window at the storm which had doubled in its fury. "It doesn't look like it's going to clear up anytime soon. I imagine it could rain like this for days!"
Elton wasn't surprised that the other was exploring as well..but was alarmed to hear he hadn't found much. He sighed and scratched an itch on his nose and then replied. "Well that's bloody splendid, I'm not finding much either. Here we are in the middle of a magic castle and we can't find anything that's interesting. Where could they be hiding the cool stuff?" He asked no on in particular.

Sterling jogged up to the window beside Elton- it was even worse than before! He grimaced, actually a little worried for the indestructible force that was Hogwarts castle! He needn't be, of course; not only was Hogwarts strong, but he was pretty sure magic protected it from all but the most severe weather. Still...
"Probably everywhere we aren't allowed..." Sterling said, disgruntled- but not sure he was actually feeling rebellious enough to seek out the answer! "They should at least let us out in the rain... Wouldn't that be a story to tell!"

Elton was a bit glad for the Sterling's company, despite there not being anything to do. He sighed and pulled away from the window, jutting his chin out as he tried to think of something to do.
"Yeah, more than bloody likely," Elton huffed in annoyance. He was a bit surprised to hear that the other wanted to go out in the rain. "With how drafty the rooms are? Nah, not me. You'd probably end up with a raging fever or worse." Elton said with a shudder. "Then you'd be stuck inside when it's nice out sick as a dog. Though..I suppose if there was a spell that would keep the rain off of you that might be fun."
Elton slumped against a wall and sighed. "If only they had an indoor gym or something. Then we'd have something fun to do."
And then..much to his utter surprise the wall gave way behind him and he fell inside of a room. He jumped up to his feet and stared around in amazement at what appeared to be an obstacle course gym.
"This is bloody brilliant!" He exclaimed, and rubbed his hands in excitement. "I think I just found he room of requirement!"
