The sisters had yet to actually explore most of the lands the savannah had to offer, but found themselves awe struck by the abundance of forest that lay in front of them. It had been too tempting to pass up, and Asali was eager to see what sorts of things they would find here. Of course, she drug her dark pelted sister with her as well, unlikely to have fun without her, but most assuredly to hear her complain at least once or twice through out the trip.

"Remind me what we are doing here, again?" Damu hadn't taken more than a few steps into the forest and was already feeling that they may have made a mistake. For one, they didn't know the territory or the terrain, it would be easy to be snuck up on and that feeling of being vulnerable wasn't very appealing to the lioness.

Asali sighed, wishing she could ignore her sister's obvious displeasure with the exploration. "Just checking it out. I've never seen so many trees clumped together before", she explained, glancing back to notice her sister's alert ears and rigid disposition. That was Damu for you, always ready for the worst to happen. Asali couldn't say she blamed her, but the pale lioness was far more interested in adventuring to care. "We won't be long, I promise. Just a quick look around." Hopefully that would please her sister, or at the least calm her nerves for a bit.

"Right..." was the only response Damu could think to give, her attention on their unfamiliar surroundings. With ginger steps she continued after her sister, still far less enthused about the idea than her pale counterpart.

User ImageThe light pink lion opened his yellow eyes and smiled contentedly to himself. He had just woken up from a most glorious nap, to find to his delight that a rare, huge and very colourful butterfly had landed on his nose while he slept. He had to hold himself back from chuckling, unwilling to startle the bright creature.

But there were certain things that had to be done after a good nap, and he very, very carefully unfurled his paws and slowly, slowly extended them as far forward as they would go, his hindquarters instinctively rising in the process. He pawed the ground a little as he stretched, the muscles in his arms trembling with the effort. Then he rose up, slowly, slowly, and keeping an eye on the butterfly all the time (unaware that his tongue was poking out, ever so slightly) and stretched his hind legs out behind him, arching his back as much as he could as he streeeetched the stiffness of sleep out of his body.

When this was done, he almost messed the whole careful "don't scare the butterfly" -procedure up by shaking himself down, but restrained the impulse at the last possible moment.

"Whoops, almost messed up there, little buddy, didn't I?" he murmured, though really more to himself than to the colorful insect on his nose. The noise didn't seem to startle it, however, so after a brief moment's consideration, he began quietly humming - as much to warm up his voice after the nap as to try to give shape to and express the feeling of the moment.

They hadn't gone much further into the dense forest when Damu once more began to feel uneasy. Who knew what they would find lurking around each corner, and the dark pelted lioness wasn't exactly keen on being snuck up on. With a flick of her tail the lioness increased her pace to stay closer to her sister, opting to at least be side by side with her in case something jumped out at them. "This isn't exactly how I planned to spend the day. Can we just get this over with?" Yes she was being a pain in the backside, but Damu much prefered the open savannah. It was much more difficult to be snuck up on out there.

Asali merely rolled her eyes at Damu's complaints. It wasn't often that they did what she wanted to do, and the pale lioness didn't think she was asking much of her sister. Just her company during a short exploration. It wasn't long until her ears twitched at a strange, faint sound coming from somewhere ahead of them. Asali paused in her step, curious at the unfamiliar noise, yet slightly taken aback. Of course, she had never heard song or melody in her life, so the strangeness of it peaked and tickled her ears. "Do you hear that?" she whispered to her sister. Ever so slowly she crept closer, much like stalking a prey beast, for she had no idea what to expect.

Fjolnir was really getting into the mood now. Totally not expecting anyone to see or hear him (it had been quite a while since he had last ran into anyone, and he knew his home was a bit out-of-the-way for most people) he allowed himself to sink into the "zone" where everything but the music within him sort of faded away. In this moment, there was only him, and the butterfly.

...in my sleep... hum dee dum...
I met a friend... Dum dee...
A bright spot of colour
Lost, it would seem
Alighted on my nose
Disrupted my dream...

Hello, butterfly
Welcome, friend
Won't you stay a while?

Dum dee dum... Hum hum...

The song was perfectly silly, but it made him smile and it captured the moment in a very direct way. Maybe this could be something. A new song. Something to work on for a while. Another soft chuckle escaped him.

Hello, butterfly
Welcome, friend
Won't you stay a while?...

Of course she heard that! The noise was strange and alluring, something she had never heard before in her life, and it made the fur on the back of her neck stand on end. Something so foreign that Damu couldn't even imagine the creature that was making this sound, and quickly the dark pelted female dropped into a crouch, her lips pushing back to expose the tips of her fangs. If it wasn't for a strange sense of curiosity that pushed itself into the forefront of her mind, she would chided Asali for creeping forward to examine the area. As it was though, Damu was not far behind, claws sliding out to grip the ground as she stalked after her sister, alert and ready for anything.

Whatever the sound was, it changed almost as soon as Asali got the edge of the clearing, stopping dead in her tracks as a voice rang out with the same melody as before. She had never heard anything so... beautiful in an odd way, particularly not with a male's voice. It sang of strange things, of friends and butterflies, while still managing to captivate the awe-struck lioness. She had to see who this voice belonged to- what this voice belonged to. What fantastical creature could produce a voice made of soft silk. The concept completely escaped her.

Damu felt much the same way as her sister, completely unable to wrap her mind around the idea of song, having only heard stern and ugly voices of males since her cubhood- for the sisters had been slaves to a most horrid pride in years past. Where as Asali was now stuck in place, transfixed on just listening to who ever or what ever produced the sound, Damu was brave enough to push past her. Eagerness filled her heart and her imagination ran away with her; so, imagine the shock on her stunned face as she came upon the scene.

A male, gorgeous in all rights of the word, producing a lovely hymn to a colorful butterfly. It was safe to say that wonderment filled the lioness' expression, and she could not bring herself to disturb him even while stumbling into plain sight.

His silly little song ended in a surprised hiccup when the brown lioness suddenly appeared, as if from nowhere. The butterfly, startled by his sudden movement, left his nose with a few lazy beats of its colourful wings and begun a slow, rambling flight towards the colorful flowers growing higher up in the trees.

Fjolnir stared at the lioness for a moment, then his fur suddenly grew very hot. How embarrassing! She must have heard his stupid, improvised little tune, and he knew she must have seen him with the butterfly on his nose, cross-eyed and grinning like a silly little cub. Oh, he wished the ground would just open up beneath him and deliver him from her astonished stare. For the briefest of moments, he actually considered running away to hide in the thick vegetation, but he quickly disregarded that thought. He wasn't a shy little cub.

He threw a quick glance at the departing butterfly, and gave a hasty shake to his mane to at least try to make it fluff up a little more, and cleared his throat.

"Um...." He gave her a hesitant smile. "Hello. I... I didn't hear you come..."
