WELCOME TO SPARTA MADNESS, TEAM XQuote: Character Name: Samantha Lee Minis Account Name: Miliardo Year, Race - Subspecie: Y2 Undead Zombie Natural Ability/Abilities: Sammy's FEAR is focused in her left arm, she's able to build FEAR up into a purpleish flame that causes what ever it touches to feel as cold as a corpse. Punching with it only causes a blast of cold that lingers breifly before slowly fading; grabbing onto someone makes it last much longer till she lets go. Natural Fear: Undead March; Sammy never tires like all other undead. Quote: Character Name: Altair Minis Account Name: Lei Year, Race - Subspecie: 1, Demon - Incubus Natural Ability/Abilities: Altair has the natural ability to aid him in his quest for booty essence. He is capable of sprouting up to 6, but more commonly 4 prehensile, slimy tentacles from his back and shoulders. They are of modest width, but still powerful enough to do damage and are useful in a number of pursuits. For now they are merely a way of immobilizing the target, and can reach a fair distance to grab hold of persons or objects in range. Quote: Character Name: Nukpana Minis Account Name: Nata Year, Race - Subspecie: 2, Monster - Skinwalker Natural Ability/Abilities: Natural: Shapeshifting; Primarily wolf, crow or bear. Ability: Copy ability; Primarily a confuse ability, if Nuk is able to tear the flesh of an individual, he is able to take on the appearance of that individual. Quote: Character Name: Shehk Iordanescu Minis Account Name: Pachurz Year, Race - Subspecie: Year 2, Undead-Pricolici Natural Ability/Abilities: Natural Ability: True Form Shehk is able to turn into her true Pricolici form and back again. Fog Breath - Prolonged exposure to certain types of 'living' fog (noted by being more dense and giving a feeling of suffocation to the breather) for more than a couple of weeks can leave one with the ability to exhale fog. Exhaling too much of it in a short period of time can leave a person wheezing and/or with the hiccups. This is a conscious ability, so the user won't just be walking around coughing up fog all over without intending to. FEAR: After-Image Shehk can create several after images that are distracting enough to raise her chance at making a critical hit. Subnotes of Weaknesses: Shehk cannot handle the cold very well and, for lack of better pun, freezes up in it. Quote: Character Name Toby Lockwood Minis Account Name hanyousblood Year, Race - Subspecies Year 1 Monster, Carnivorous Unicorn Doppelganger Natural Ability/Abilities Heat Vision (… of a sort): Though still possessing a single 'true' eye in the base of their horn for hunting purposes, the unicorn doppelganger navigates during passive circumstances with a pair of heat-sensing pits located in their (skin covered) eye sockets, viewing the world in a way similar to a thermal imaging camera. True to form, Toby can easily "see" most creatures this way, completely unaffected by lighting circumstances, so long as they have a noted temperature difference from the surrounding atmosphere. … Unfortunately, however, her sight can easily be confused by large groups in close quarters like a school hallway, and certain ghostly or undead individuals (aka close to room temperature or incorporeal) prove extremely hard for her to see, bordering on invisible. ALSO NOTE: When switching back from her true eye to heat pits, Toby suffers a brief period of complete visual blindness for about fifteen minutes, leaving her extremely vulnerable. This is why she doesn't just use her "real" vision willy-nilly unless she desperately needs to, because it's hella nerve wracking to be 100% blind and helpless in the downtime. **Toby will also have a seeing Eye Scareon with her for the trip~ Pumpkin Pills: 3/3 Remaining What has happened thus far?- Room 1: A very strange library with a fire trap! Toby expertly disarmed the fire and solved the tile puzzle. - Room 2: The 43rd Weekly Haunted Dog Races?! What.

- ROOM 1 -It's... rather anticlimactic, actually. A warm, comfortable room that looks like a library or study area, exactly like you might find back at Amityville Academy. A cheerful fire crackles in the fireplace; the walls are paneled in dark wood, and elegant bookcases stretch up to the ceiling... though, weirdly enough, all the books appear to be identical. Volume IX of Hertail's Guide to Dating. Huh. The room also has no windows and no doors. What happened to the one that led in here? Wherever you thought it was, it's gone now. Maybe one of the bookcases sidled over it when you weren't looking? The only obvious exit now is... the fireplace? And the fire is still lit, mind you, but you think you can see something etched on the tiles behind the leaping flames. Quote: To proceed on to the puzzle, you must put out the fire. To do so, you may: 1.) Be creative with the items in the room, your abilities, etc.! The only things in here are the identical books, though... or so it seems? To attempt an action on the flames, make your RP post and quote me so I can respond! 2.) Search to try and find the switch to turn off the fireplace! All players roll 1d20 as a 'spot check'; if you roll a 20, you find a book that clicks and swings forward, shutting off the flames. (The book looks ever so slightly different than the rest; the book is also slightly warmer than the surrounding area, so Toby can sense it as well... though not any better than the 'normal' sight of the other characters!) Each character may roll once every hour. Remember to RP in every post you make, even if it's just a little bit! If you succeed at your spot check, you may RP the fire going out without my direct intervention, and continue to the puzzle below! Once the fire is out, you can see that there is indeed an odd pattern to the tiles in the back of the fireplace.... and that, when you check the chimney, there's a very solid metal grate across it, preventing you from getting through. Darn. Still, you find your attention focused on the tiles. They form a strange four by four grid filled with symbols, which have been warmed by the flame (i.e. Toby can see them too). The longer you observe the puzzle, the more the compulsion to try and solve it grows. It's as if the puzzle wishes to be solved. It looks like you can draw on the blank tiles with the leftover charcoal from the fire... Quote: When you think you've solved the puzzle, post your solution and quote me so I can check your answer!

The room their group was directed to enter was very...warm. Shehk found herself having an immediate affinity for it, despite the crackling fireplace. Fire was still something she didn't find very safe, but she was more than happy to bustle up next to it, rubbing her hands together and attempting to suck up the heat from the room. Mmmm. She really liked this room. Yeah, she still needed to make sure she'd divvied out the Pumpkin Pills like she'd said she was going to, but..warmth. It had called to her cold dead body in a way that very few living obligations did. Not to say she didn't hold true to her obligations. She just liked being warm more.
Though she wasn't blind to the fact that the room was just...walls of books. There was something slightly stuffy about that and a look at the books left the pricolici pulling one off of the shelf and flipping through it. A few pages in, she began chuckling, wiping a tear of laughter from her eyes. "This is such a strange book." she noted with some amusement. "I mean... this stuff ..it's just.." she giggled again. Clearly Shehk was going to get the prize for being the first person in their group distracted by the contents of their room. Though she put it back after reading the table of contents and the first couple of pages.
"Wonder if we'd get in trouble throwing all these books in the fireplace." she noted, having not actually looked into said fireplace to notice the puzzle going on at the back of it. She was too busy pondering how long they could possibly stay in the warm room. She really liked the warm room. A lot.Shehk's Bag for Sosi's use! 3 sealed bottles of water One First Aid Kit ---- Packed with adhesive bandages, gauze, 2 ACE Bandages, prepackaged alcohol swabs, medical sutures, an eye patch, splints, and 'How to not kill someone while fixing them' instructions. Oddly, no painkillers. She gave a similar one to both Sammy and Toby. Squirrel Jerky. Lots and lots of Squirrel Jerky. To be honest, Toby had expected something a little more... intimidating... upon entry, but she wasn't about to complain for overly comfortable surroundings. The air felt distinctly more pleasant than it had outside, invitingly warm and open, thanks to the ambient heat of the fireplace. Perhaps she'd actually lucked out to utilize her true eye shortly beforehand, though even without it, she doubted any trouble navigating this place.
... Still, there was no time now to dawdle and waste what little time she had for genuine visual observation.
It didn't take more than a few seconds to scan the room and recognize every book as the same title, shifting her attention, instead, to what seemed like the only possible "out" they'd have. With no windows and no doors (... where HAD that one gone?) to speak of, clearly, the fireplace would have something to do with their departure, and as she crouched down, squinting her horn against the crackling reddish firelight, there seemed to be something legible in the tile behind it. Separated boxes, four tiles in each, sparse symbols...
Wait a second.
... She was vaguely reminded of an old game her parents used to fuss over in the daily paper. Was it the same? Four symbols could be perfectly adequate stand-ins for the numbers, and... well, it all made sense enough, but if that would be the key to their progress, something else had to be dealt with first.
Because, y'know, fire was friggin' hot and everything.
"Well, what should we do, Iris?" she asked under her breath, passing a look over to the scareon seated next to her. Sadly, however, he said nothing back and just yawned, clearly fighting an urge to curl up and nap by the warmth.
With a soft sigh, she patted him on the head and continued to study the area on her knees. She did have some water in her bag, but sacrificing it would've been terribly wasteful if they had other options...
"... Does anything seem unusual about that book's contents?" she asked aloud to Shehk, finally. It was at least worth asking.
(Now, maybe if she could just drag those logs out of the hearth and stamp them out herself...)
Toby's Bag for Sosi's use also! 1 sealed bottle of water 1 sealed bottle of apple juice 1 pair of stiff metal tweezers 1 complete set of spare clothing 1 bag of meat flavored dry biscuit/jerky treats 1 quad set of minipet sock-booties (for injury-potential terrain) 1 small pouch of hygienics (toothbrush, bar soap, deodorant powder) 1 bottle of generic pain medication 1 first aid kit (courtesy of Shehk upon receiving)

When Sammy stepped backwards into the door she felt a heat fill the space behind her back before she was suddenly turning about to face the library and it's fire place. It was strange really; the room had no doors and suddenly she was in it spinning about ever so slightly till she got her orientation. "Huh... well; this is interesting I guess?"
She started to pace the room looking at each book; all the same dating advice. Shehk had already started to giggle at one of them and Sammy couldn't help herself to reading it as well.
"Dude.... this thing says something about 'condoms' and 'birth control.' Are those like... protection charms?" She blinked flipping through the book some more raising her eyebrows randomly before slooooowly slipping it back into the bookshelf. "Humans... weird." Slowly she poked at a few other books before glancing back to the others.
"So does anyone have an idea?" She walked over beside Toby and Iris leaning over to scratch the scareon behind the ear, "No sleeping little soldier. We've got a mystery to solve... how to get out of here." It was when she was crouching she saw the odd puzzle on the other side of the fire causing her to frown. "Is that something... on the other side of the fire?" She edged back rather then forward. She still remembered her failure at the obsticle course Nox had put out outside the school.
Fire not good, fire bad. Very bad.Quote: - Extra Clothes - HATERade - One First Aid Kit (From Shehk) ---- Packed with adhesive bandages, gauze, 2 ACE Bandages, prepackaged alcohol swabs, medical sutures, an eye patch, splints, and 'How to not kill someone while fixing them' instructions. Well, he hadn't really been expecting that. A moment after he'd finished slapping Nuk's hand off of his beltloop and the door swung closed on the dusky outdoors behind him, he found himself in eerily familiar territory. Had they gotten turned around somehow? This didn't look like the human world. Oh well, at least it seemed innocuous enough, not to question the trustworthiness of the appearances of strange rooms. Although from the wariness of the more experienced students, it seemed to Altair that he'd better keep his guard up. The incubus glanced around the room, blinking slowly, and a chill ran down his spine when he saw that the door they'd come through had disappeared. Well, there was nothing for it now and not wanting to seem overly perturbed the demon sidled further into the library, dispersing with the others to move about the firelit room. As Shehk and Sammy began examining the books, making amused exclamations, Altair idly pulled down one of the tomes himself, before he noticed that every single spine was embossed with the same title. "The hell is this? Some sort of joke?" he demanded, flicking the book shut with a thump and carrying it over with him to join the ghouls beside the fireplace. Squinting to try to peer past the flames and catch a glimpse of whatever they were seeing himself, he shortly gave up with a disgusted snort. "I can't see anything with the damn fire blocking it," he answered Sammy. "And I ain't getting burned to find out." Despite staying by the door, Nuk failed to notice as it disappeared quite literally as he walked in, his arms folded loosely across his chest in that bored, cocky way that was a painfully obvious 'this is stupid.' Although the atmosphere of the room was more than accommodating, flat out tempting for some it seemed, the skinwalker looked apathetic to the warm fire and the rather plush room. In fact, he looked like he rather stood out against the high-brow wood furnishing and aristocratic bookcases, the crackling fire completing what would likely be more Altair's scene than his own. It was only until they had all begun wandering around the room, mostly eyeing the books that he took a few more steps inside, his bare feet making absolutely no sound on the soft carpet.
Instead of looking at the books, however, he seemed to be waffling between inspecting the floor and the ceiling, peering at them with a suspicion that could likely be attributed to his slightly disgruntled mood. "Throwing the books into the fireplace sounds like a recipe for a barbecue," he answered Shehk, coming up behind Altair to squint over his shoulder at the books and smirking at their subject, "Wonder if they're hinting at something. Go ahead Altair, pucker up 'n kiss the Zombie, see what happens~"Stuff in Nuk's Pockets protection charm (condom) half-eaten lolipop coins a lighter pocket knife pack of cigarettes lint

"What the hell are you reading, Sammy??" Shehk flipped back to the table-of-contents with a baffled look on her face. "For the most part these books seem pretty straight forward." Shehk put the one back on the shelf before pulling the next one off of the shelf and flipping through it. She repeated this with a third. "The contents seem to be identical too..." she noted, before this look came over her face. "I swear, if we're supposed to find the one book that's like..minuscule in difference, I might break something in this room..." While she had a certain degree of patience, she didn't have nearly the amount required to scour the room for the one book that had the typo of 'the' in it.
However, the idea of a barbecue in a closed room didn't sound all that appealing to the Pricolici, who seemed to renege on her idea of throwing the books into the fireplace at all. "I guess that does sounds like a quick way to burn the room down completely...." she sighed, before pausing to take the box of pumpkin pills out of her bag again.
"Sammy, Toby. You should each put one of these in your first aid kit. Just to be safe and divvy them out so Altair doesn't have a heart attack over me having all of them." Not that the Incubus would actually have a literal heart-attack, but Toby didn't seem to have completely disowned him like she and Sammy had, so there was one small spot of salvation for him, right?
However, Nuk's quip at Altair made her chest burn and her ears drooped just a little bit. She didn't care who the Incubus kissed (as long as it wasn't her), but..... the entire idea of relationships was kind of rubbing salt in the proverbial wounds.
She swallowed that feeling down as much as she could, however, and pulled out a water-bottle, setting it down on the table by the fireplace. "I have two more of these.... though I'm not sure one bottle of water is going to be enough to put out this fire...."

Alright, so it probably wasn't the content of the books that mattered, but maybe Shehk was still on to something with her sarcasm. In a scenario like this, playing the old 'One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other' card would've been par for the course. It felt perfectly logical, plausible, and in stride as a precursor to remove certain (burning) obstacles from the more obvious puzzle... but that didn't mean it'd be easy.
"It looks like... a symbol placement puzzle of some kind," Toby concluded in response to Sammy's inquiry, though she seemed too intent on studying the grid as well as she could, short of straining her eye in the light. "I don't think it should be too difficult... sans the heat."
(Iris, almost humorously, seemed hellbent on not yawning a second time after he'd been chided and sat up visibly straighter.)
She accepted the pumpkin pill with a murmured affirmation and little else, slipping it neatly in with the rest of her first aid kit's contents before the whole thing was neatly placed back in her bag again. Now, back to the puzzle-- or the puzzle before the puzzle. They were all starting to sort through their options on how this thing should be solved, so it was time to get to business.
... Among them, there were two undead individuals whom she could only assume were terribly flammable (which clearly meant not manhandling the fire), a fellow monster, and a demon. Toby was not intimately aware of much so far as their own unique abilities went, though, but they did have a fair amount of water between them, except that... hmm. One bottle might not have been enough by itself, either, and to sacrifice any more than that felt incredibly wasteful when they didn't know how the future would pan out, so...
A more concise idea struck her when she 'hmmed' and looked down at her feet. thoughtfully. Maybe she was dismissing a simple shortcut option too soon?
"Actually, one might be plenty." As she said this, she went back to her bag and the first aid kit a second time, pulling out, of all things, one of the ACE bandages in her assorted goods. Even more curiously, she twisted her tail around towards the front of her and pulled back the long, curly mess of fur at its end-- revealing a rather alarmingly oversized, hook like-claw-- and began to 'tie' it up beneath the wrap, around her tail stalk. There, no loose ends exposed and it was all covered up! "... If no one is opposed, I think I can drag those logs from the hearth and put them out. Is that alright?"
Being a monster had its advantages on occasion.
She wasn't fireproof, by any means, but at least there were parts of her that had no feeling and didn't burn easily.

Sammy turned to Shehk smirking, "Chapter 20; after courting. Was the passage I found that in, spoiler I like to check the last chapter of books to see if they get to some good juicy climatic ending." Taking the pill she reached down to her cargo pocket pulling out a small bottle of painkillers adding the black and orange pill to the top of the bottle.
When Altair and Nuk finally arrived she offered them each a quick wave of welcome. Again she turned back to the fire squinting at the marks on the far side. "Fraid it ain't joke boil. We're trapped in a library dedicated to the fine art of humans flirting and dating with the most extensive collection of the same book ever." Slowly she gesutred towards the fire again, "Toby see's it, get down a little lower and look past the flames."
Suddenly Nuk was behind them making suggestions that caused her to roll her eyes with a groan. "Please Fleabag, I have a ghoulfriend, and if I was going to kiss anything it'd be Shehk then Toby." She glanced at Toby offering a quick shrug and a relaxed smile as she rummaged through her pack. "Probably Shehk, it'd be rude of me to kiss a ghoul I just barely know on our first fieldtrip together."
Slowly she moved away running her fingers over each and every book. "No books on the fire; I like the fire in the fireplace and not burning the room down. As for putting it out with water, that seems like a waste of water in general." Lazily she grabbed at a random book. "Maybe we should just start tugging the books off the shelves till we find the right one. Could be like some of those movies you guys watch in that one club." She turned making the universal Halloween gesture for 'creepy crawly movie' wiggling her fingers, "You know like a good ol spook film." She paused when Toby revealed the claw hidden on her tail and she could only whistle at the display. "That might work, or we could end up setting the floor on fire when we tug it out..."
Without thinking she reached up to poke at another book aimlessly. Of course nothing actually happened. It was never that easy as simply tugging a random book down.

Altair rolled his eyes at Nuk's quip, curling his upper lip in disgust at the very thought of kissing the zombie. Luckily it seemed that their feelings were mutual on that score. "Nahh, it's your bright idea, you be my guest, pal," the demon snorted, flicking his tail in total dismissal of that ever happening.
Shehk's dispersal of the pumpkin pills didn't do much to ease his anxieties at all, and he arched an eyebrow at the Pricolici pointedly, needing no words. He saw that he'd have to look out for himself on this trip anyway, and he didn't intend to depend on the whims of fickle females.
Toby's idea for putting out the fire had him backing away from the flames quite hurriedly. "I gotta say I agree with the zombie on this one, sounds like a good way to make more fire," the demon said once he'd put a safe distance between himself and the hearth.
"I dunno why these books gotta have something to do with the fire.... but sounds better than engulfing myself in flames!" the incubus declared and started to pull down books himself. Met without success, he threw the useless identical tomes over his shoulder.

Shehk simply accepted the fact that she wasn't going to be giving Altair any sense of security. Not to say it didn't feel a bit like a jab to think that he suspected she'd leave him to rot. It wasn't fun to try and save people in vain and frankly she'd already died for enough people. Peh. Whatever. However, it seemed she also had some of the uncertainty about stomping out the log as well, lips tightening just a bit.
"Let's see if we can't find a clue before we do that. If we do set something on fire, then we won't have enough time before my panic button flips to find another solution." the pricolici seemed to agree that the books had to be something to do with that fire. Well.... "I mean, I can't imagine they put these books in here for no reason. Especially not so many copies of it. Unless one of the Boogeymen wrote the book and wanted to make sure all the copies sold." it was supposed to be a joke, but Shehk seemed to realize it wasn't as funny as she intended it to be as she reached up to pull a book off of the shelf she'd been investigating.
"Either that, or this is meant to jab at me." she added as a mutter underneath her breath, not really loud enough for anybody who wasn't eerily close to her to hear...and frankly, that person would probably end up getting elbowed. However, it seemed the book Shehk had picked up hadn't yielded any more results than anybody else's attempts to find anything.
Looking back to Toby, Shehk shrugged; "if you do try, save the water for after the fact in case something sets on fire...please...."

"I doubt we'll find any clues in these books, behind them maybe, but not in them for sure. Stupid human dating habbits won't help us at all unless it includes being freaking fireproof."
"I'm with Shehk on this one though. We should save the water till the very end. Just in case we make a serious mistake that sets everything on fire in here." She frowned, "And even then a few bottles of water won't help us if we get this place seriously burning since its full of all these lame books." On cue she reached up tugging another book down flipping it around lazily to see if it was any different.
