This is something that's been on my mind for awhile, especially since Born This Way came out. And I would love to hear all of your opinions on this topic. Here are a couple of her songs that she censors herself: Bad KidsDance In The DarkGovernment HookerWhy does Gaga censor herself in her albums? For example, in her song Bad Kids, we know at the beginning she says,
We don't care what people say
We know the truth
Enough is enough with this horse s**t
Then later on in the first verse says, I'm a b***h We know what she says, but its more implied that flat out in your face. Is this considered artistic? Or is Gaga abit of a hypocrite? Swearing isn't always a bad thing. But what are your opinions on this? NOTE: Just for the sake of argument, I use the term, censor, just to get my point across. I'm rather on the fence myself on whether or not its legit censoring or not.

I don't think she's a hypocrite....We hear her swear all the time, she's not saying don't do it and then goes in says it...The reasons for the censoring is probably the record labels doing...I'm sure an explicit version will come out soon...I'm tired of everything being censored but that's the world we live in. I wish you could pick an explicit or a clean as soon as the album drops but you can't...

I think it's because it's forced by the record label? All songs released on albums are probably censored.
I think it's because it's against the rules not to have censors on songs like Monster and Government Hookers, but I'm not sure for like the word b***h in Bad Romance and DitD.

The FCC, corporations and over-bearing parents are going to get their panties in a bunch over any swear word. What it's probably happened is she's become well aware that they're going to censor it anyways. That or censoring certain words is/was the only way they'd be allowed on the album.

I noticed that in Bad Romance, where "b***h" became "bit." I don't know why. Anyway, it reminds me of Linkin Park--their first couple of albums were swearing-free. Since I was 12 at the time, I liked it. Now their recent albums have cussing in it. Maybe it's to avoid getting that "parental advisory" label?

Well, they played the song b***h by Meredith Brooks, even on public radio and television, in the 90's. So I am guessing that the word b***h is allowed at times.
As for the censoring of "offensive" words in GaGa's songs, I'm thinking, at least in the case of Bad Kids, it was done for artistic purposes.
Thin about it, the song is about being a black sheep so to speak, and the blatant sound effects used for the censored words adds to that theme, in my opinion.
As for other censorships, the word ******** is usually censored, though I honestly have no clue why it was censored on album versions of songs like Monster.

Honestly, I don't care much for it. :p It's just the way it is. In Bad Kids, I like the censoring and in Government Hooker, the beeps in the end, I like as well. cool

I thought about that too, but I cut my post in half to prevent the less literary-inclined users from getting bored or confused. Lady Gaga has A LOT of young fans. Young enough where they have to have their parents buy the album for them instead of buying it themselves, and no parent (unless they don't care about you or are hella cool, but if so they just wouldn't buy the album or pirate it for you) wants to buy their child an album filled with swearing. So what probably happened is Gaga figured "Okay, so since they're gonna b***h anyways about the swearing, I might as well censor it with some sound effects that actually go well with the song."

Really? I honestly had no idea. I figured pre-teen was the youngest, unless if that's what you're referring to. I do think the way she censors the swear words in her music is tends to go well with the song. I found it worked particularly well in Government Hooker. I mean, what person would censor you any faster than the government. It was rather clever

I also noticed that, but that's not her censoring it. In her version for censoring it she repleases "b***h" with "freak" and/or "thing." 3nodding Probably on the radio is where they use "bit" instead of "b***h."

I was wondering about this too. In Bad Romance she says I'm a freak b***h baby. So why do the record label all the sudden censor it?An for some reason I doubt Lady GaGa would allow it to be censored purposefully. I think there is some underlying artistic meaning I just can't figure out what.
