So my boyfriend and I hung out yesterday. We talked about our future, as with most couples do every now and then. Again, he is leaving for the Army... But that doesn't stop him from saying: "If things are still really strong between us before I leave, I'm tempted to give you a promise ring."
I was speechless.
We broke up.

Wear Sunscreen Aren't promise rings those things dad's give their daughters as a NO against premarital sex? Maybe it depends on the region, because that's definitely not what a promise ring is where I live. Around here, a promise ring is a small step below an engagement ring.

The rings dads give to their daughters are called purity rings. I have one. A promise ring is a promise of being married one day. I think it's really sweet.

I gave my girlfriend a gold and diamond promise ring and she bought me a gorgous a white gold ring with a heart shaped sapphire on it. She and I plan to get married sometime.

Oh my god that is so sweet! It sucks that he has to go to the army but I suppose all you can really do is send him good thoughts. And pray, if thats your thing. You both will definitly be in MY thoughts!

In the state my girl friend lives in doesn't allow gays to marry or be married. She's Jewish and she has a promise ring.
