This is my budgie, Tatl! He's some kind of a mutation, he seems to be missing the majority of his head stripes, and of course he's bright yellow with only a hint of green on his tummy! He's...around three and a half-four I believe. I got him a few summers ago when I was nineteen at a well reputed pet shop that seemed a little better informed about exotic animal care than the standard chain shops!

Since then he's accompanied me on like seventy billion moves cross-country, he's lived in four provinces (Canadian) including Quebec where he was born, Alberta where he is now, Newfoundland and Ontario.

He LOVES bells more than any other toy ever. If he has a bell he's pretty much content. He's tame, he'll come hang out on my shoulder, though he never did warm up to pets or being heavily handled, I guess I got him too late and wasn't diligent enough to get to that point. Still, he's a good boy and I am glad to have him!

In the future I would like to get a Cockatiel as well, and when I can afford it I may very well try. I have two cages now so I could see whether or not they got along gradually. All in good time!

This is my Koko.

He is a 37-ish year old green cheeked Amazon. I've had him for 13 years, before that he was owned by a little Scottish lady for 20 years. Before that, I have no idea. He's a cranky old b*****d but I love him dearly. He's sweet to me but hates everybody else, particularly my fiance.

There's a little stripeyness on his eyes, and he's been developing some spots on his head again :3.

Does he like his veg? He looks like he'd have a great time playing in parsley.

He's nibbled on carrots before but he really doesn't like much but his seeds. I've had pretty much no success in introducing him to anything else D8.

Eep, that's really bad. Seed-only diets bring heaps of trouble in the long run. If you ever read any books about birds or look at websites, they all highly condemn feeding only seed.
Seed is deficient in vitamin A, which is responsible for the formation of the mucous membranes and therefore supports a healthy immune system. It's also not a complete protein, lacking lysine and methionine. Birds need complete protein, especially when they molt- their feathers are 90.7 percent protein, actually.
Seed also has a very, very poor calcium to phosphorus ratio. Adult birds need a 1:2 ca: p ratio, young growing birds need a 2:1. Either way, seed fails to provide enough calcium for birds.

There are so many illnesses that are caused by improper, seed-only diets. I personally don't mind feeding seed to birds, but it's not a complete diet on its own and if a bird is fed only seed, they're extremely likely to have trouble in the long run with disease and probably not live as long of a life as they should. Seed must be supplemented with plenty of fresh veggies.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for you to switch him to a pelleted diet then. An all-pellet diet isn't the best but is vastly superior to him only eating seed, which /will/ cause issues in the future.

Yep, I know plenty about it from researching all of this when I got him, unfortunately he outright refuses pellets and doesn't seem to warm up to anything new I introduce to him. I actually got pellets for him right when I bought him, but I guess he was raised on an all-seed diet so he just didn't. He always ignored the pellets or threw them out of his dish. So I just do what I can with what I've got! I'm planning to try sprouting some of his seeds to at least see if he'll try that.

All you can do is keep trying.
Some like their veg cooked, others like it raw, some like it whole, others like it diced. It's hard to introduce fruit and veg to budgies and cockatiels especially, those little guys are usually the worst of the lot for being seed junkies.

Sprouting the seed is a good way to go. My first success with introducing veg to my cockatiel was with alfalfa sprouts and parsley.

Look excited with the vegetables when you go to feed him, like you're really happy to be eating it/sharing it with him. Sometimes that might get them interested enough to just taste it.

As for the pellets, good luck with that. Neither of my birds will even touch that and I have been trying for the last 13 years. They would rather starve then eat the pellets.

Yeah, he just hates the pellets XD. Maybe if I found a shape more seed-like he would nom them for a bit, I dunno though. But I'll definitely be trying the sprouting soon, and see about cooking some veggies to try that out too.

How are peas for budgies?

Perfectly safe to give. Most fruit and veg are.

The big ones to stay away from are avocado & rhubarb. If you are ever unsure of which foods are safe or not, check online resources and then cross reference.
