http://www.nbcdfw.com/entertainment/celebrity/Lady-Gaga-Sued-Over-Japan-Relief-Bracelet-Proceeds-124568054.html

You know those bracelets Lady Gaga has been selling to benefit Japan’s disaster victims? Well, some lawyers in a Detroit suburb are suing the popstar for $5 million, alleging that the whole thing is a scam.

This entire lawsuit sounds pretty ridiculous. First of all, the lawyers that are suing Gaga work for a legal network called 1-800-LAW-FIRM. Shady-sounding, right? They claim Gaga is guilty of racketeering and corruption, and that she’s pocketing some of the proceeds from the sale of her “We Pray for Japan” bracelets. Their issue is that Gaga charges $5 for the wristbands, plus a $3.99 shipping fee (though Gaga’s website actually says it’s $5.99); they believe that money is not in fact going to charity. As such, they say she’s “violated consumer protection laws in every single state.”

But these 1-800-LAW-FIRM people don’t have any actual evidence, and a case like this is exceptionally hard to prove. Of course, that didn’t stop the ridiculous legal analyst over at Detroit’s local Fox affiliate from jumping on the story a mere two-and-a-half- hours after the suit was filed. We can’t imagine Gaga is too worried about this, and she’s also no stranger to legal woes. Last year an ex-boyfriend sued her for $30 million, claiming he was the one who coined the moniker “Lady Gaga”, and earlier this year Gaga sued the makers of “Baby Gaga” breast milk ice cream.

I think its a load of bullshit and these ambulance chasing lawyers are just trying to make a quick buck. If I was Gaga I would sue for defamation of character.

Um... isn't the shipping and handling fees for I don't know... for the post office? Because the shipping and handling are forced by the post offices and it's probably illegal not to have them. If Gaga had had any say in it, there would be no such fees wouldn't there?

I think You're right cancer. They should be sued for defamation of character.

And personally, I think the people who work at FOX need a spiked vibrator shoved into something and turned up at high speeds.

Shipping and handling prices vary hell I bought stuff on Ebay and got over charged for shipping I didn't sue. I have also bought a bracelet from hot topic.com similar to the pray for Japan one and was charged 4.00 for shipping it is a standard price for 2 to 3day priority mail who the ******** wants to wait 3 weeks for their item to get there them just to save 2 whole dollars. Gaga is the biggest star on the planet right now and the press will do nothing but try to find something to defame her just to get a story. They all deserve the spiked d***o shoved in them plus a kick in the a**.

I hope she does sue for defamation of character and get that law firm shut down, at the least. That's praying Gaga didn't accidentally or purposely pocket any money, of course. And since she's such a big public figure, she's gotta prove actual malice.

I thought this was a small issue until I checked Lady Gaga news on Google and there were like 600+ related articles. The only thing I hope for is that Gaga gives a definitive answer on why money is being retained. It probably is to cover administrative costs, but it'd be better to just go out and say it.

Did anyone believe that shipping costs were going to go to Japan? Like, really? Everyone that bought a bracelet was given the oppertunity to donate more money

As said before, Gaga should sue the law firm for trying to ruin her name, shut them down and then donate all money that she got from the lawfirm to tsunami relief. Show em' who's boss Gaga scream

I think I'll sue the red cross. The foundation is pretty popular and I'm a hater in need of some money. I'll say that they're a scan. I worked with those people who sued Gaga, right?
Wrong.
They won't win. They have no evidence. Plus, I don't Gaga would treat her fans that way.

Did the person who filed suit really think she'd take the money for shipping for herself? It's not like the federal postal service will give her free shipping because she's Lady Gaga, so naturally the extra two dollars is clearly for shipping. All they would have to do is pull some receipts and some documents proving where, how and when the money from the "Pray For Japan" bracelets went to helping Japan and the case will pretty much be fine. Unless they magically come across some hard evidence that she's been embezzling the funds from the bracelet sales or there's genuine proof that the bracelets are just a cover for an additional cash cow (which is unnecessary since she makes enough money as it is from merchandise sales alone and the like), they have no actual case.

Her spokesman said: "This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan.

Wow, everyone is in it for a quick buck aren't they? She should counter-sue for defacement of character (basically slander). She would most likely win. Also, as Miss Fiendette said, all her team has to do is show receipts. The money goes to the post office and to UPS. UPS has ridiculous shipping prices but that's the way it is if you want overnight.

Even I considered she could counter-sue for slander, but I'm not completely well read on the legality of the issue, and that if she actually would even consider counter-suing. The only lawsuits I know she filed that come to mind is over the Lady Gaga sex doll.

I had no idea she sued over the sex doll. That's interesting to know. I'm hoping she won that case since that was just utterly stupid.

I believe she can counter-sue for slander against her name. However, I'm not 100% on the issue.
