okay, that's stupid, and it irks me how rainbows are, for the most part, associated with homosexualism these days. When I was little, when people heard the word rainbow, they thought of leprechauns and a pot of gold at the end of the colorful spectrum. Now that seems to be the last thing on their minds. gonk

Just to say a few things: it's homosexuality not homosexualism.

I do agree. Rainbows have multiple meanings and are not only associated with "queerness" (trying to including everyone in LGBTTTTTDQDKQQIAAAPPGQ). But here's a bit of the history of it from Wikipedia that I can vouch as being true:

"Originally created with eight colors, pink and turquoise were removed for production purposes and as of 1979, it consists of six colored stripes, which should always be displayed with red on top or to left. It is most commonly flown with the red stripe on top, as the colors appear in a natural rainbow.[11] Aside from the obvious symbolism of a mixed LGBT community, the colors were designed to symbolize: red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sunlight), green (nature), blue (harmony), and purple/violet (spirit).[citation needed] The removed colors stood for sex (pink) and art/magic (turquoise)"

This whole controversy erupted after some students in the Catholic School Board in Toronto (Mississauga) wanted to start a GSA. Catholic schools in Canada are severely messed up, and I really think that people should go to public schools and leave their religion at home and on the weekends when they go to church.

You guys should look up what other stupid things are happening in regards to education and sexuality. The Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, who I am ashamed to say is from my city (Ottawa) scrapped plans to starting a new curriculum to teach children about safer sex and sexuality at a younger age after a bunch of religious parents protested saying that he was encouraging homosexuality and such.

Seriously? *shakes head in disbelief* I didn't know Canada was that religious.

I didn't think that we were that religious, as well. Although, McGuinty only speaks for the province of Ontario, and I believe we are a lot more progressive than the U.S. Although same-sex marriage is legalized, the Conservative party originally opposed the whole concept and voted against it. After the second try to get disallow it, they had to give up. Now, they're voting to soften their stance on same-sex marriage.

Canada is a great place to live and be queer, but we do have many religious people (of a variety of religions, too) who oppose sexuality being taught in schools.

Every year, some pro-life organizations gather on Parliament Hill in Ottawa (which is where I am from, and is Canada's seat of power where people typically go to protest) to protest Canada's decision to legalize abortion. Catholic schools give students that day off to make the students go to the protest so that the protest has more numbers. It gather's 10,000s of people. CTV Ottawa Pro-life protest

Well, since Canada has country-wide same-sex marriage, it's probably better off than the U.S in terms of gay rights (Here we only have same-sex marriage in a handful of states, and everytime they try to pass it in more states, the religious right-wing people get upset and block it...).

Really? The U.S's version of that is March for Life, where people protest in D.C on the anniversary of the law that made abortion legal in the U.S. There's about 250,000 that show up, but it gets very little news coverage...I think it is mostly made up of the same sorts of people who are against gay rights. The amount of religious hardcore right-wing people really varies from place to place here though.
