Demoted Trainee Nakura paced in his cell, unsure how long it had been since he had been imprisoned there. He had left his phone in the pocket of his jacket before it had been taken by Seth, along with his pokeball. The room he was in didn't really allow him a glimpse of the outside, either, so there was no way to determine what time of day it was except by his own guess.

Izaya wasn't really sure what Aila was going to speak to Seth about, except maybe to apologize for recruiting him. In that sense, he wondered if the guilt - yes, guilt - he felt for betraying her initial trust in his potential was the same sort of feeling she would be suffering from Seth. The only difference was that she hadn't been in control of the situation. He had.

Okay, so now he knew better. He had learned that not all Rockets had the same level of control and self-discipline, and that their ranks weren't necessarily an indicator of such. Team Rocket's members weren't robots, which was good, because mindless, emotionless soldiers were no fun. However, Izaya also made a note that just because he could find and push his teammates' buttons didn't give him the right to. He owed it to Aila to do well now that he remembered exactly who had been gracious enough to invite him into the organization in the first place.

Slowly descending into the depths of his thoughts, the former informant traced little lines onto the palm of his hand with his switchblade. It wasn't enough to draw blood, but it was enough to keep him consciously aware that he was still alive. As long as he was alive, there was always a way to turn the tables, which was exactly what he intended to do at the first oppertunity.

Though Izaya wasn't aware of it, it was morning, erring towards afternoon. Aila had spent her last few days' worth of free time observing basic training sessions and the duties with which they were associated, questioning trainees on their feelings regarding the program, and reflecting on her own experiences and values. She spared an hour or two before sleeping to compile her daily findings and organize into what she believed would be a suitable training regimen. She had the thought that she was perhaps going a bit too far if she was sacrificing her limited sleeping hours over the matter, but she had respect to earn, expectations to meet, and a point to prove.

The silence of the detention facilities would be punctuated by the quiet approach of footsteps, muted instinctively by years of practice in stealth. The small agent to whom those footsteps belonged stopped in front of a familiar cell, swiping an access card through the door's lock and pushing the barrier open.

"This belongs to you, correct?" She tossed forward the jacket she had retrieved from the guard, the hood sadly disconnected from the body of it. Aila stepped back from the door, adjusting a bag that rested at her shoulder and gesturing that the trainee exit. "We have things to discuss. Have you eaten yet?"

Orihara didn't bother moving at the sound of the approach. He remained where he was against the far wall, eyes closed, until the footsteps halted. For some reason, they had stopped very close, but the man in the cell didn't bother to look up until the swipe of the card and the swing of the door reached his ears. He raised his brows, indicating his surprise. "Aila-chan? You're back soon." He smiled with playful mockery. "Come to dispose of me? Make me wish I had never joined?"

As she tossed him his jacket, however, he caught it and the hood with a mildly disgruntled expression, holding them apart from each other. "Heh...I'm surprised he kept both pieces," he spoke at last, examining the ripped fabric. "Does this mean I'm off the hook, then?" Drapeing the jacket over his arm, he put the hood into one of the pockets, exchanging it for the pokeball, cellphone, and Rocket 'dex that he had left in them. He didn't feel like wearing it when it was in such poor shape. Hopefully he'd be able to find someone later who had the skill and supplies required to mend it.

"You're a life-saver, Aila-chan! I knew your favorite executive would forgive you, but you must be a smooth talker to have gotten him to pardon me.It seems it isn't without conditions, though," he added, eyeing the bag Aila carried on her shoulder with critical curiosity. "As a matter of fact, I haven't eaten yet. I'm not even sure what time it is. Why don't we call it lunch and discuss everything over a nice warm meal, mm? My treat," the trainee added ironically, winking as he waited for her by the door.

She didn't respond to his jest; it seemed morbid to do so when he was on such thin ice. At his next question, however, she shook her head briefly, "Not off the hook, and not pardoned. The brig simply isn't equipped with the proper facilities for your reevaluation." She started forward, intending the cafeteria as her destination. "This isn't the proper place to talk about these things, though. Lunch is correct; we can continue this discussion in the cafeteria." Brunch was more accurate, really, and while the breakfast crowd had likely cleared out, it would be a while longer until the lunch crowd moved in. Ideally, this would reduce the amount of gossip that followed the man who had been demoted and tossed into the brig while allowing him to eat something that wasn't a questionable color with a scent like detergent. It was no small wonder that more of the brig detainees didn't simply refuse to eat the foul stuff...

In truth, Izaya was half-starved thanks to that very fact. He did his best to hide it, but after days having only drinks of water and a few bites of the disgusting meals offered in the brig, his already-scrawny body had become significantly weaker. Grateful as he heard and recognized the destination their path was leading them to, a slight skip returned to his step, increasing his pace. Real food sounded wonderful after so long being deprived of it, no matter that it was cafeteria food or other that the grunts who made it varied greatly in their cooking skills. "Ah...re-evaluation. Sounds promising," he responded, attempting to keep his mind focused on the picture of a warm meal rather than the difficult work he had ahead of him. "A little off-putting as far as appetites go, but better than imprisonment."

"If you don't mind me asking...what's in the bag?" he inquired, rasing a brow as he held open the door into the cafeteria. "After you."

Unpleasant a thought as it was, it was a necessary difficulty, and she was sure he understood that. If her research had as much value as she hoped, though, the training would at least be less tedium than the average trainee program.

She glanced to the bag as he mentioned it, passing through the door with a soft thanks before responding, "Reading materials I'd like you to look over. "I'll explain in detail shortly." She stopped in front of the elevator, pressing the button to summon it. It arrived in short order, and she entered through the sliding doors, waiting for Izaya to follow before pressing the button for the proper floor.

"Perfect. I love reading," he replied, his delight genuine this time as he stepped into the elevator with her. Obtaining knowledge was something he never tired of, and it beat the heck out of physical endurance training any day. "Wait, does this mean I'm not reporting for basic training with the other trainees?" he asked skeptically as the thought came to mind.

"...What exactly did you say to Seth?" Nakura dared to question once they were inside the elevator.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 26, 2011 2:13 pm

"Some of it's more interesting than others, but hopefully it'll offer some useful information," she said, her tone the auditory equivalent to shrugging. The reading was supplementary, intended to introduce and elaborate on concepts that weren't best instilled through lectures. She gave a nod at his assumption, "That's correct. It's been determined that the standard training regimen was ineffective, so a unique program has been put together." It was a bit excessive, now that she thought about it. Basic training was meant as a means of weeding out incompetent recruits so they could be disposed of, not so they could have special programs built for the purpose of correcting any inefficiencies they displayed.

Her professional poker face waned slightly at the question. She had expected and anticipated that Seth would be angry with her, but she was still a touch upset that she had failed his expectations. "I apologized to him, and his disagreed with his evaluation of your usefulness." The elevator sounded their arrival at the requested floor, and Aila exited, sparing a glanced behind her, "I told him you were skilled, and I told him I felt you had all potential to make a difference here." So don't prove me wrong.

"You must be an angel heaven sent," Orihara gushed, leaning in towards the young woman appreciatively. "It's so nice to know someone in this place is reasonable about things. That, and the sound of a unique program makes me feel special. I just hope it isn't too much more painful." He smirked, seeming to assume that the program would be more rigorous than usual. So far, however, it didn't sound half bad, and it wasn't as though he had failed when put through normal training. "Pray tell...who put this new regimen together? You? Seth? I shudder to think what he may have done to alter the traditional course..."

What was that? A change in expression? Something intense must have happened. "As expected," Izaya sighed, falling away from his proximity to Aila's shoulder and neck. "But really, he hasn't even gotten a chance to see what I'm about. You, on the other hand..." With a half pirouette, the crimson-eyed man exited the elevator. "...Mind me asking you a personal question?" he asked, seeming to switch topics the instant he was out. He didn't seem to require her permission, though, because he continued on without waiting for her answer. "Do you think that you have, maybe, just a tiny, itsy, bitsy little crush on this executive?"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 26, 2011 3:38 pm

"Most of the agents I've met are reasonable," she said. "Even Seth, contrary to popular belief. He's not the most patient, but he's far from unreasonable." Though she knew many who would argue that. The fact that he had responded favorably to her request, however, proved Aila's point well enough for her. She dipped her head in affirmation at the curiosity, "I compiled it over the past few days, since I last spoke with you. It's more involved than the standard program and will likely prove more difficult, but no requirement is without purpose." The result of her research. She had never done anything like it, though, and could only hope it was at all effective.

"He should see soon enough," she said, referring to the fact that the executive had asked for reports on the trainee's progress. That would be explained later, though, along with other conditions. An eyebrow raised at the initial request, furrowing at the question that was posed. "Of course not," she replied, an honest confusion in her expression. "I owe Seth a great deal, and I respect him even more." Never mind that he was her superior and that it was a popular rumor that he was in a relationship, and never mind that Aila was only vaguely aware of what a crush was supposed to entail anyway.

"Ah, well, I suppose you know him better than I do, so I'll take your word for it," Izaya answered, heading for the lunch bar. He wasn't in any state of mind to argue. Besides, he wasn't going to complain now that he was out of the brig.

"Compiled it?" the trainee repeated, picking out a few fruits. "You really do too much for me, Aila-chan. It's not possible to not do it and say we did?" He smiled at her weakly, knowing the chances of her agreeing were next to none. Nevertheless, he had hoped that his word that he would behave better would have been enough. While he was grateful not to have to repeat the same basic training all over again, no training at all would have been preferential.

"Yes, I'm certain we'll both make sure of that," he answered, already biting into a fresh, crisp apple while reaching for a handful of Liechi berries. "...Ah? You're positive?" he chuckled at her confusion, finally making it to the end of the line. "Okay, if you say so, then. Where shall we sit? Aren't you getting anything to eat?"

She followed patiently through the cafeteria as he selected his fare, answering his suggestion with a skeptical expression, "No, I'm afraid not. Honestly, though, I don't think you want to skip on this training. You were recommended to the infiltration and surveillance department for your skills in gathering information, yes?" She inclined her head slightly to a side. "I'm an agent in that department, so I took that into account when designing the program. You'll be much better prepared to enter the department if you complete the training properly." A part of her wished that she had had a similar opportunity, but it was inconvenient to specifically train recruits on a case-by-case basis.

"Mm." She felt no need to repeat herself on the matter. "No, I'm fine. And any table will do." Locating and seating herself at the nearest arrangement of chairs, Aila gestured for Izaya to take a seat as well. "As you've probably guessed," she began, "I will be your immediate supervisor during your trainee period. To ensure the program is successful, I will continue to survey your activity through your time as a grunt as well, which works just as well if you intend to continue in infiltration and surveillance, since I'm a senior officer in the department." She awaited any questions or comments thus far before continuing the explanation.

"Something like that," he answered in regards to the mention of Kunai's department. "I see. How thoughtful of you. It'll be nice to work with someone who knows what they're doing." He meant it, too; with his knowledge of Aila's skills as a previous freelance thief, he felt pretty comfortable in her care. A little too comfortable, perhaps. "Yoroshiku onegaishimasu," he told her with a brief nod.

As he took a seat beside the agent, Trainee Nakura finished off his apple before tossing the core into the nearest trash can at the end of the table. "That it does," he responded, indicating he had heard her explanation. "So you're my boss for the time being, then. I suppose that means we'll be working very closely for a while. Just like old times, neh?" Beaming at her, he sipped from a cup of water. "How long do you think this program may last? Is the actual curriculum you devised meant for just my time as a repeat trainee, or does it also extend into my duties as a grunt?"
PostPosted: Wed Apr 27, 2011 8:15 pm

"Don't relax too much just because we know one another," she warned. "I'm more than willing to share what I know, but I have no plans to make this easy. I want to see the agents in my department succeed, I won't spare any pains to accomplish this." Now more than ever, now that she had something to prove - as well as something on the line.

Aila had grown strangely accustomed to hearing unknown words slipped into her conversation, and so she paid little mind to the foreign phrase. Instead, she offered a response to the question, "The training itself and the duties that accompany it are meant for a trainee. As a grunt you will have control over the methods of training you pursue, as you'll be expected to be familiar with what best suits you at that point. At this point I will not observe your training directly. Instead I will have my Mismagius observe you at random, primarily in an invisible form, in order to ensure you're keeping up with your training and following proper conduct outside of my company." She took a moment to take the bag from her side and set it in the chair beside her, continuing to explain as she did so, "It should be noted that Seth has asked for regular progress reports and reserves the right to reevaluate you himself before approving your graduation from trainee status."

"Relax? Me? Never," Orihara teased. "I enjoy a good challenge. I'm sure it's something better than those stupidly straight-forward obstacle courses they had set up for trainees. Those wouldn't have been challenging to a grade-schooler." He interlaced his fingers thoughtfully. "Let's hope I'm as reliable to you as I used to be. I'm certainly more than willing to give it a go." His thin lips curled in a crooked smirk. "And there wouldn't be any revenge sweeter than to completely turn Seth-ou's newest perception of me upside down."

He finished off his water. "How fun. Spied upon by invisible ghost-types. That almost sounds naughty..." he commented off-handedly, unable to hide the smile into his cup. After his drink, though, he cleared his throat and appeared to return his attention to the business at hand. "Understood. Well, then, whenever you're ready, we can begin. First things first, though - what are you going to eat? You're so skinny! A girl like you needs some meat on her bones."

Picking up a spoonful of jello, he held it up to her mouth. "Open wide~" he instructed playfully. "Or are you on a diet?"
