+Decisive
While not always the best at making decisions, Cady at least is quick in doing so. She is generally well aware of her priorities, whatever they happen to be in that particular moment. She's not afraid to let others know what she wants, either. Her speedy and effective decision making often is as useful in battle as it is socially. She's quick on her feet, and tends to trust her instincts first. If it's a tough decision, she'd just go with her gut, and she'd be confident in that decision, even if questioned for it later. Regret isn't a concept she understands.

+Sincere
Cady is honest. It's not always for the greater good, but it's one thing about her you can definitely count on. She'll tell the truth, even if it's grossly inappropriate. She's a terrible liar, and doesn't really even bother trying on that front. Cady is about as honest as a girl can get, in both thought and feeling. She wears her emotions openly, and it's always easy to tell what kind of a mood she's in.

+Confident
If there's one thing this manticore isn't lacking, it's belief in herself. She stands behind her decisions and statements, and won't back down easily. This surety allows her to move through school despite the fact that she's somewhat educationally challenged. It's a kind of positive confidence- confident enough to be able to admit when you don't know something, without feeling like an idiot about it. She is the stupid question asking extrodinare.

=Curious
Cady is nosy. Sometimes this gets her into trouble, but most of the time it's pretty harmless. She just likes to know things. Anything from taking something apart to see how it works (and breaking it), or delving into someone else's business. She doesn't really get what 'boundaries' are, but will back off if asked.

=Chatterbox
Cady is a bit of an oddball. She's just a little bizarre, or, as her guardian describes her, 'very special Cady'. She doesn't really see the implied insult, which is just as well. She doesn't seem to know when to STOP TALKING, once she's started, and loves to pepper people with questions. Sometimes this can be good, and sometimes it's just plain annoying.


-Tactless
Part of being overly curious and inexperienced is her lack of knowledge of social niceties. She usually doesn't censor herself, saying EXACTLY what she thinks or feels, often at the expense or discomfort of others. While she might be being completely sincere, that doesn't make it any less awkward. While she often accidentally says or does hurtful things, she typically has a tendency to err on the creepy side; like, your hair is nice, or you smell like food. Generally she means it as a compliment, but it might not always be taken as such.


-Impatient
'Waiting' is what other people do. If you're Cady, you pause for about half a second, and then give up and do something else. Seriously, who has time to sit around? She shows up to class only on threat of failure, and her least favorite thing is written exams- all those squiggly symbols crawling over the page just don't hold any interest for her. She's into instant gratification, and does a lot better in classes oriented around physical activity rather than meditation or forethought.

-Obtuse
You're going to have to spell it out for her. No, really. Sarcasm is ALSO way over her head. A lot of things are way over her head, like the sky, puns, treetops, social cues, etc. And don't expect her to know when a situation is awkward either- uncomfortable silences or sullen glares don't really register. She means well, but kind of has to be lead by the nose, so to speak.

Riddle Me This
Manticores, like their sphynx cousins, love riddles. The funny thing is, though, they are absolutely horrible at them. Really. I mean, they're basically going to eat you anyway, so does it really matter? Either way, Cady shares this passion, and is known to call out some really rank ones before battle.

"WHAT IS BLUE AND LOOKS LIKE THE SKY? ...Wait...WHATEVER."

She can't be bothered to SOLVE riddles though. No, that requires too much work, and patience, and makes her head hurt.


Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Cady was raised by a reaper named Gladys Winderly who was studying the North Rock manticore clan. This particular clan is named for the region they traditionally inhabited in ancient Greece - rocky hills-land, in the region known as Arcadia. They have thicker coats than most manticore (namely their Persian cousins), and feathery wings instead of bat-like. They also have furred paws. This separates them from some of the more southern species, who sometimes feature bony, spined tails and draconic appendages. They're also slightly less volatile (they'll just eat you whole instead of ravaging you first), so Gladys felt them ideal for her experiment.

As they are a very small sub-species, they had little say in Halloween Town politics. Gladys however, finds them fascinating creatures, and feels that it is a real loss that none of them have acquired licensing to cross over to the human realm and be allowed to visit their traditional territories. Thus, she reared and trained Cady with this in mind, so that she might attend the Academy. Included is a letter promising her good behavior, and that Ms. Winderly was 'fairly certain' she wouldn't eat anyone.


FEAR:

Natural Ability: Manticore have evolved to swallow their prey whole, posessions and all. They have a jaw that unhinges like a snake, and a complex digestive system that can handle metal and most foreign objects. Modern materials like plastic, however, can sometimes cause problems.

Flight is not a natural ability for manticores - Cady cannot truly fly in her natural form, and certainly not as a humanoid. A manticore's wings are largely used for gliding downhill, or from clifftop to clifftop.

1st year: Slow Strike - A touch based attack, if she breaks skin with her tail, she has a chance of inflicting a poison that slows the target for 1d6 rounds. Can be used once per battle.

2nd year: Paralyzing Strike - On successful sting, she now has a chance of paralyzing the target completely for 1d4 rounds. Can be used once.

3rd year: Neurotoxin - On successful sting, she has a chance of paralyzing the target for 1d4 rounds, and also inflicting a DoT poison effect.

Physical Description:
Eye Colour: Gold
Hair Colour/Style: Reddish brown in a side ponytail.
Skin Colour: Tawny, with a white belly.
Clothing Style/Colours: She doesn't really have a color preference, but she does prefer shorts over pants. I think it would be cool if she could retain a toga-style top as a nod to her culture, and perhaps wear her skull pin on the toga strap?
Extra: Scorpion tail, bull horns. Wings optional (I THOUGHT THEY LOOKED KEWL LOL)

Ms. Gladys Beverly Winderly is a witch and cryptozoologist that has studied the habits and culture of various magically occurring species and phenomena. Her current favored subject of study is the North Rock manticore - a small subspecies of manticore that evovled to survive harsh, northern climes. She has published many papers on her subjects, insisting that they deserve increased recognition in Halloween Town's crowded monster population, and seeks through her pupil and adoptive daughter Cady to begin upping the number of manticore enrollments in the school through pre-schooling and training.

She adopted Arcadia when she was a kitten, from an average sized litter of the lead female of the clan. Like lions, all females were allowed to breed, but it was clear which females had status over the others, through feeding rituals and everyday interaction. She raised Cady as her own, teaching her how to speak English (her clan spoke mostly broken Greek) and teaching her the basics of being more human-like. While her intelligence is necessarily limited - manticore are more beast than man - she has so far been pleased with the result of her work.

Cady, like a normal kitten, didn't really seem to miss her siblings. She was still allowed periodic visits to her clan when she wasn't studying, but contact was limited in order to attempt to domesticate her more fully. She enjoyed her time with Ms. Winderly, who treated her as well as any doting grandmother might. She's excited about her time at school and the opportunity to meet new and interesting creatures.

this will probably end up being a bunch of questions. bare with me OTL

so she's decisive, but what happens when she can't decide? Like it's a truly difficult question, like (extreme here) to kill a person to save a group of people. does she ask others for help, or brood over it, or what o 3o

for her truthfulness, does she ever hurt people with it? like is she truthful to the point where she'll say "you look fat in that dress"?

is she confident to the point where it's arrogant to some people? and does her confidence sometimes make her look stupid because of how things go over her head (obtuse trait)? and how can she be so confident if she doesnt get things to quickly? for example, in minipets class (just an example) she has to be led through the dissection of a ... i dunno, a splodey. even if she doesnt know how to do it, will she just plunge into the frog, or ask for help ? o 3o

for her confidence and curiousity, if she doesnt know something she'll go asking around about it. but shes also confident; so if she doesnt know someone, until she figures it out does she fake like she does know it cause shes so confident? i hope that makes sense, it sounded a lot less wordy in my head xD

i dunno if quirky is necessarily a trait to include; i mean everyone in TiH kind of has something quirky about them- riley speaks through mind-talk, icky smells like trash, levi is a country bumpkin, etc. etc. i guess what im saying is what exactly makes her an oddball? If it's "animalistic" things like climbing trees, i wouldnt say thats all that odd. but if she goes as far as to like ... i dunno, sniff people's butts when she meets them, that's pretty far out and oddball-ish. i guess just elaboration on what makes her so odd o u o

question on her history; does cady mind/care that she was sort of (but not necessarily!) forced to be a human? does she hold resentment for the reaper, or was she just transformed when she was little so she doesnt remember or something?

i think the fear actually looks pretty good o u o
can she only strike with her tail? or can it be emitted from say, her claws? o 3o

also, for natural ability, here are some ideas?
flight being the obvious one, since she has wings, but i dont know how useful they are (if they can lift her, or they're just for show)
something around poision, maybe a knowledge of potions

other than those nitpicky detalis, i love her. i have so many plots with her and danny in my head already.

I've got to say I love it. Reading her characteristics I felt like I was remembering someone from high school. A little movie in my head. feel like I know her. But like rii said I think one natural ability should be flight seeing the wings. The Modern Manticore information should be added to the Monster Mash info for sure.

I like how the poison is just for the stinger. I think it should stay like that. Claws are always good for attacking but it seems like it should only ooze from pincer like things.

I've been meaning to crit her, but I don't have much to say. XD; Well, I'll address something some others have been mentioning. Since everyone's talking about wings and flight as a natural ability, I thought I might as well drop off what I know on the subject. ^^;

To my knowledge, any creature that normally would be able to fly (bird monster, winged manticore, dragon) in their natural form doesn't have to put down flight as their natural ability. They can just fly. (For example, I believe Jericho, a DnD-based Red Dragon, can fly, but that's not his natural ability. Since he has large wings, he can fly.)
If a creature DIDN'T have wings but somehow floated/flew/whatever, then that would be their natural ability/FEAR.
But for winged creatures, they can just fly without needing to have that put down as a natural ability.

At least, that's what I think I've read in the species/race information. ^^;

And I'll try to think of a real crit eventually... l'D;; I hope this helps though. ^^;

WHOA, I'm critting another quest. Wtf is this craziness.

So overall the concept is strong, and the thing I like best is that you have a VERY specific goal in mind for why she's coming. She was trained since birth for this chance at learning at the academy so that she had a chance at entering the esteemed ranks of scarers in the human realm. This makes me very happy, because the biggest problem I see nowadays with new characters is that they're missing a defined reason. The worst thing to see, imo, on a quest form, is 'because mommy wanted me out of the house' XDD

Anyway, the only thing i can see to crit is-


The Academy already has a system in place for giving students humanoid forms (the skull pin, which is mandatory to be worn in classes and hallways and school rooms in general) so having an armlet doing the same thing might be kind of redundant - also, there's several instances where, even if her armlet was taken OFF, she will be prohibited from changing (school trips are a great example of this sometimes). There's no rule against having it, but it does seem pointless for the reaper to have made an armlet for the purpose of doing something that simply being enrolled in the school already does. =3

I got a really good chuckle out of the Riddle Part, I really really hope to see her trying to do this alot because it would be a really endearing trait (well to me xD).

But yeah Ive got nothing else to add that hasnt been said.
