The Library ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – This. Is. TORTURE! Quillan banged his head down onto his book with enough force to make his ears ring. Across th table from him, Dorian was looking rather preoccupied. He didn't pay much notice to Quillan's suffering, in fact, it seemed like had gotten used to it. Jerk... Quillan heaved a large sigh and looked out the window, trying to find something--anything--to amuse himself with besides the moldy textbook in front of him. Why did they even have to know about Devil's Snare? It wasn't like they were going to run into some anytime soon--the professor hadn't even let them handle some for Merlin's sake! It was just a boring lecture all hour long! Quillan glared down at the textbook and huffed a large sigh, hoping to get Dorian's attention. It didn't work. Quill tried again to no avail. Finally, Quillan groaned loudly.
"I'M BORED!" He complained, receiving a vehement 'ssshhhh!' from the librarian. Quillan ignored them completely and stared at Dorian with puppy eyes. "Have a heart! HAVE A HEART!" There was another 'shhhhh' from the librarian's desk. Finally, Quillan lowered his voice and leaned over the table. "This is dumb, can't we just go do something fun?--I dunno, like eat cucumbers?" He begged, laying his chin flat on the table and his eyes looking up at Dorian, his mouth in a exaggerated pout.
"I get this Devil's Snare stuff already, but this Astronomy dung is just mental..." Quillan grunted, shoving his cracked open astronomy book in Dorian's direction. "Can you just draw it for me already? It'd be much easier for the both of us, don't you think?--or, could I at least see yours? I can't make sense of all this mumbo jumbo text." Quillan indicated down to the small font paragraph near the bottom. "This is why I don't like maps--completely useless contraptions, in my opinion."

The noises coming from Quill across the table were starting to annoy Dorian. He closed his eyes for a moment and let loose a long exhale. Quill was definitely being way too over dramatic about his work, and that was more than enough reason for Dorian to pretend he wasn't in the room. Dorian let his mind wander thinking back to how fun it had been to study with Thalia. At least she was able to listen and understand him better than Quill could.
Trying to teach Quill about astronomy was kind of like teaching a stone to be a rubber ball. Dorian's gaze snapped over to Quill when he complained loudly that he was bored. He blinked, and rubbed his hand over the book in front of him as if he hadn't heard him. He was definitely never going to try and help Quill with his school ever again. It wasn't worth it in the long run.
"Eat cucumbers?" Dorian asked, almost gagging at the thought of slimy cucumbers in his mouth. It brought back unpleasant memories of his grand-mere stuffing cucumber salad in his mouth and making him eat the slimy disgusting substance. He shuddered slightly at the thought. "Cucumbers are nasty." He said making an ugly face.
Dorian glanced over at the astronomy book that Quill had shoved at him and sighed. The instructions were so simple, and easy to do. How could Quill not understand it? "You may have five minutes to look over mine before drawing yours. I'll not have you copying everything off of me." He intoned with a serious look. "maps are very useful. How do you think people keep from getting lost?"
Dorian reached for his bag and pulled out his completed assignment and held it out to Quill. "Your five minutes begin when you take these." he told Quill and readied himself to count the seconds.

Ironically, Quillan also ignored everything Dorian had to say until his friend gave in and allowed him to see his map. "Thanks, Dorian! You're the bawwwmb!" Quillan exclaimed, lunging to grab the offered map from Dorian's hands. Once he set it down, Quillan grabbed his quill and began to copy Dorian's map as quickly as he could--sure, it wouldn't be as precise as his, but it'd get the job done. Surprisingly focused, he drew silently and quite accurately, considering his speed, until four minutes were over. "Done! Thanks, Dorian! Now let's go find some cucumbers!" Quillan pushed back his chair, it screeched against the flooring as he did, and stood up to his full height, stretching a bit before waiting patiently for Dorian. He pretended not to see the angry glare the librarian was giving him.
"Dorian?" For some reason, the kid seemed intent on finishing what he was doing. Grr... With a frown, he plopped back down in his chair. Making himself comfortable, Quillan just stared across the table at Dorian. His body slouched further until just his head was above the table. "Doooriiiannnn!" Quillan moaned, sliding further down his chair.
At the peak of his boredom, Quillan lifted his shirt above his belly-button and grabbed his quill, beginning to draw a face out of his stomach. "Look! Look! Doriann!" Quillan grinned, flexing his stomach so the face on it moved as if it were talking. I'm a genius! "Hey Dorian!" In attempt to get his attention, Quillan softly flung his pen at him. To his surprise, Dorian coincidentally moved in that instant and the pen flung past him and smacked into the head of a Gryffindor behind them. "W-well! I think... it's time to go!" Quillan jumped out of his seat and gathered as much of their things as he could into their hands before bolting in between one of the many library shelves.
"No running!" The librarian bellowed after him.

Dorian rolled his eyes at Quill when the other wasn't looking. He sighed and shook his head and then went back to concentrating on the parchment in front of him. He still had two spells to memorize before class the next day and he rather hoped that it would take Quill all five minutes to finish copying his map. He'd need at least that five minutes to get one of the spells down.
Dorian softly mumbled the spell and made the want motions with a finger underneath the table so no one could see what he was doing. He had repeated the spell at three times and was in the middle of the fourth when Quill suddenly pushed his chair back and jumped up.
Dorian ignored him and continued repeating the gestures and the words soundlessly to himself. Just five more times and he'd have it down. His father always said if you repeated a spell at least a dozen times you'd have it down...so that's what Dorian did with all the charm spells he was supposed to learn.
Dorian seemed to be learning how to zone out Quill's incessant prattle and moans which was a good thing. If he hadn't come across the skill by now he'd have probably beaned the other boy and left him in a drooling daze in some corner of the castle. Thank God for small favors.
Dorian frowned, and looked up sharply at Quill as the other practically ran out of the library with half of his things. "Hey!" He cried, then cringed. "Sorry, ma'am." He murmured apologetically at the librarian as he grabbed the rest of his things and hightailed it after Quill.
"Why the heck did you grab my things?! I wasn't done yet!" Dorian exclaimed rather frustrated as he finally caught up with Quill half way down the hall. Thank goodness he was starting to get the hang of running after the red head. It seemed like when he was hanging out with Quill half the time he was running for his life from Gryffindors.

Quillan had high-tailed it all the way down the hallway before stopping for Dorian. The other boy caught up with him relatively quickly, and the Frenchie was acting... rather French. "Y'see, Dorian, I figured that you'd be too spacey to grab your own things, and who knows what those Gryffindor's would do to them if we left them!" Quillan defended himself, handing Dorian's books back to him. "But... while we're out here, you wouldn't mind if we... uh... found some cucumbers?" Quillan asked innocently, crouching a little to look up at Dorian. Puppy eyes rarely worked when you were looking down--and if they did, it wasn't half as successful!
Whether Dorian or not, Quillan went to grab his friend's hand and began trotting down the hallway. "To be quite frank, I've never actually had a cucumber before--but I've seen one on this movie... ah, what was it? OH! TOTORO! The girl and her sister sit down with some old lady and eat vegetables! It makes me want to eat a cucumber every time! But for some reason, my daddy-o never gets me any... Thus, I thought... wasn't being at Hogwarts a great opportunity to try one? Am I right, Dorian?" Quillan turned around and grinned sheepishly at his friend. "I'm right, right?"
Quillan added a little skip to his walk and swung the arm locked with Dorian's. He did this regardless of Dorian's protests until they arrived at the Main Hall. Cracking the door open, he slipped through with Dorian inches behind him. "Cucumbers, cucumbers! Where are you, cucumbers?" He inquired in a sing-song voice, retaining a little bit of his skip from earlier.
Then, a frown appeared on his face. "Dorian, what if they don't have cucumbers? Maybe that last one I threw was it!" It had dawned on him seconds before and now, his jubilation turned to anguish.

Dorian pursed his lips in annoyance, his nostrils flaring as Quill replied. Of course..it had to be Gryffindors he blamed everything on. It seemed like they were always the problem. Dorian rather wished Quill would learn how to control himself and not start so many problems with the other House. They'd both have a much healthier time at school if Quill could learn how to control himself better.
"Thanks." he muttered and grabbed the books, shrank them down and slipped them into his book back. "Can't you think of anything other than cucumbers?" he snorted rolling his eyes at Quill's attempt to beg him.
Dorian sighed, and allowed Quill to pull him down the hallway. He tried to go over the spell again in his head, but Quill's prattling was much to loud and grating. It seemed like Quill never shut up. "Right." Dorian replied with a sigh, not really knowing what he was agreeing to. he figured if he did it would keep Quill from asking him again.
Dorian had to quicken his step a bit when Quill began to skip and tried to ignore the snickers that were following them down the hallway. It seemed like Quill was oblivious to all the stares and snide things that were being said about them. Dorian knew that objecting to holding Quill's hand would have only made a much bigger and messier scene than holding it had so he tried to ignore it but could feel his temper getting the better of him.
Dorian slid his hand from Quill's and followed after him into the great hall. He slid a hand over his face in frustration as Quill began to sing and skip about.
"God I hope not." Dorian replied dryly. Why was it everything with Quill was such a dramatic thing?
Dorian found an empty spot at the Slytherin table and sat down to practice his spells again. He hoped that Quill would find one of his "precious" cucumbers so he'd stop bugging him and leave him in peace. Such a thing would be a blessing.

Quillan allowed Dorian to leave his side momentarily in the hunt to find a cucumber. He looked through all the tables, even the one at the other Houses, but found nothing. With pursed lips, he whipped around to the nearest person. "Where are the cucumbers?" He demanded, almost as if he were accusing them of stealing all the cucumbers for themselves. The person he turned to was a Hufflepuff girl. From what he could tell, she was much older than he was, and a few inches taller (which made him slightly more sour. To the side, he wished he would grow more). She didn't seem that put off by his tone of voice, she just rolled her eyes and pointed down the table. "Gee, thanks!" Quillan replied with delight, continuing his skip down the table.
When he reached the plate she pointed at, Quillan looked down to find these thin green slices... of cucumber? Immediately, he pursed his lips again. After looking around for whole cucumbers, Quillan begrudgingly picked up one of the slices and returned to the Slytherin table, specifically to where Dorian was sitting.
Plopping down, he pushed the single cucumber slice in front of Dorian's view, holding it as if it were some sort of vile creature he was trying not to touch. "Can you fix it?" Quill inquired, indicating to the measly slice of cucumber.

Dorian was thankful for the respite from Quill's presence and tried to spend what little time he'd have memorizing his spells. He could hear two older slytherins talking about him and and his "boyfriend" and laughing snidely. Dorian's eyes narrowed and his left eye began to twitch. He rolled his sleeves up, and reached inside his robes for his wand.
The two laughing Slytherins were saved when Quill came back and stood in front of him holding out a dripping slice of cucumber. Dorian turned and glared at Quill. "No, I can't. Go bug someone else for awhile. I'm trying to study." Dorian retorted with a sigh and put his wand away.

Quillan's lip pursed in response, and he sat quietly down near Dorian, cucumber still in hand. If Dorian couldn't fix it... and there weren't any more full cucumbers... Then he'd have to just taste this flimsy thing. With a disgusted face, he brought the slice of cucumber up to his mouth and bit at it like a turtle.
"UCK!" Quillan exclaimed, flinging the piece of cucumber out of his hands. "Totoro lied to me!" Quillan was so absorbed in being astonished that only when he heard several plates clatter together did he look up from his cucumber-less fingers. Just as he did, he saw an older Slytherin boy's face... and then the bitten piece of cucumber sliding down from his forehead. "Yikes... that had to be a bullseye!"
The older Slytherin boy just about started growling there. "Before you get angry Dorian, this time, I swear it was an accident!" Quillan announced, collecting Dorian's books in a hurry and making a move to grab his friend from the bench. In the meanwhile, he watched as the angry Slytherin moved closer, rolling his sleeves and clenching his fists. What is up with these people and their tempers!
"Mate! Is it really necessary to be so touchy?" Quillan inquired, hoping to soothe the other boy's anger. Instead, he seemed to just make the situation worse. A vein in the older boy's head began to bulge and his face began to redden... and he was closing the distance between them.

Dorian looked up from his book and then closed his eyes and sighed loudly. Why did it seem that Quill never failed to annoy someone around him? Dorian eyed the older boy from behind his hand, and pretended that he didn't hear Quill's excuses as the other boy edged closer.
"Right, everything's an accident with you. You're never at fault." Dorian muttered, and then got up from his seat and turned to glare at Quill. He rather hoped that the older Slytherins would think that he was mad at Quill..and it wasn't very far from the truth.
"You can relax, I'll deal with this one myself. I've had more than I can stand of him for one day." Dorian told the others grabbing Quill by his collar and pulled him roughly out of the Great hall.
"Shut your yap, struggle a little to make it look good and don't give me any problems." Dorian muttered into Quill's ear, hoping his "friend" wouldn't argue or make any big scenes or drop his books. If he did, Dorian would probably lose it and actually beat some sense into Quill.
Seriously..Quill was just moments away from getting the crap kicked out of him, and Dorian might just join in on it if the kid didn't start being a bit more careful.
"Flinging stuff away seems to cause you a lot of trouble..perhaps you shouldn't do it anymore." Dorian added rolling his eyes and then turning slightly to see what the other boys were doing.

Quillan grimaced when Dorian got up. Was he really being that bothersome? A strange sensation filled his gut as he looked upon his friend. He was pretty sure it was guilt, but whatever. Heck, like he'd know. Those words sobered him up a bit, and he was left staring dead-eyed at the older Slytherin.
However, his mood didn't have a chance to stay like that for long. Dorian yanked on his collar and began to pull him out. The whispers he sent into his ears revived Quillan, and he began to struggle. "OY! Let me go, git!" He yelled, grabbing onto Dorian's hands, pretending to be trying to yank them off from his collar. He was glad, so glad... not because Dorian saved him, just because Dorian wasn't angry at him. Anyway, Quillan acted convincingly until they left the Main Hall, where Dorian released him.
"Maybe I shouldn't--though on two of those occasions, it was a complete accident." Quillan grinned sheepishly at his friend, patting him on the back as he did.
Then, something dawned on him. "Why didn't you warn me that cucumbers were so vile?" He inquired, looking at Dorian with narrowed eyes.

Dorian felt a little guilty at treating his friend so roughly, but it was the only idea that had come to him. He hadn't wanted to have to get in a fight with the older students and get in trouble. And Quill would have been in worse trouble, it would have been his fourth mishap in under two weeks. It was like Quill was the unluckiest kid in Hogwarts.
Dorian was glad that he had been convincing enough to the older Slytherins, but he wasn't about to stand around outside talking where they could overhear them.
"Come on." Dorian said rolling his eyes, and pushing Quill down the hallway to a more secluded spot where they could talk more freely.
"Right. Maybe if you thought about your actions before you did them, you'd have less "accidents"." Dorian quoted dryly. "Your welcome Quill. Next time I might not be around to save you, so you'd better be more careful."
Dorian shot Quill the most incredulous look and then rubbed his forehead in exasperation. "If I recall, I told you there were vile things but you wouldn't listen. I figured you'd need to find out on your own before you believed me. Seems like that's just how you work."

Quillan grinned and slinked after Dorian to where he stopped. It was quieter there. "But they're more of impulses," Quillan explained, shoving his hands in his pockets. "So yeah, I don't quite think before I do them..." He gave a shrug before removing his hands from his pockets to run one through his hair. "Though I am sorry I keep involving you, Dorian... but isn't it more fun this way?" The serious tone he had been trying to keep so hard dropped in that one instant, leaving a giant grin from ear to ear.
"And I suppose it is the way I learn..." Quillan mused, throwing his arm around Dorian's shoulder. "Y'know, it's quite pleasant to be taller than you," He commented, ruffling up Dorian's hair while he was at it.

"Impulses..right." Dorian muttered. "Well you'd better get a hold of these impulses soon before they get you killed or worse."
Dorian could tell that it didn't matter what he said, Quill wasn't going to listen to him. He probably didn't want to survive through Hogwarts like Dorian did. He shook his head, and groaned at Quill's next words.
"It would be more fun if I actually beat up on you a bit. Maybe then my words would get through that thick skull of yours." Dorian replied leaning over to knock on Quill's head to make his point.
"I'm surprised it's not hollow." Dorian quipped and glared at Quill when his friend mussed his hair up. "Quit that or you will lose your hand." Dorian fumed pulling away from Quill's arm and fussing over smoothing his hair out.
"If I'm going to memorize my spells in time for tomorrow you're going to have to give me at least an hour alone to concentrate on them. We can do something together after that. Maybe you'd like to meet one my new friend?"

Quillan just laughed. Of course his impulses wouldn't get him killed. They hadn't so far--just injured quite a bit, but otherwise, everything was just dandy. He was sure he avoided some dangerous situations because of his impulsive behavior--though, most of those situations were caused by that very same behavior. Either way, being impulsive seemed like a fine trait, considering that, a lot of the time, in the wizarding world, if you stop and think about something... it'll literally bite you in the arse.
"Nah, you would never do that, Dorian!" Quillan exclaimed, allowing Dorian to poke him in the head. "Youch, mate, that sort of hurt." He complained, using his free hand to rub the place where Dorian poked him. "If it bruises, I'll look like a unicorn--and if I were hollow and still have the ability to think and act... I say I'd be pretty impressive, don't you, Dorian?" Quillan pointed out, leaning more of his weight onto Dorian, about to move to ruffle his hair again before his friend threatened to blow off his hand. "You know, it never looked that smooth to begin with~" Quillan commented with levity, so tempted to ruffle his hair again.
"That sounds nasty, Dorian... But I suppose I could sleep through that hour..." Quillan gave Dorian some room, lifting his arms and knitting them behind his neck. When his friend offered for him to meet someone, Quillan gave him a skeptical look. "No, not really," he replied, quite honestly. "But I will if you want me to."
