I'm putting this in the OOC forum instead of the Crew forum, because I think that since we have far more members than we have crew, there will be more community discussion this way, especially since this topice - spring cleaning, or cleaning at any time of the guild for that matter - tends to confuse a lot of people who aren't in on it.
Personally, I was considering the following:
> Deleting all non-essential subforum threads that haven't had a reply in over six months.
> Makiing a guild announcement that announces (imagine that!) another clean-up of the member list. That will either remind people to come back, or to leave if they have no intention of posting every again. And like the last time RPR did this, we'll give everyone a couple weeks to respond, and then go through the member list and remove the ones who haven't posted in years.
> Updating signature banners. The ones we have posted are a little old, I think it would be fun to have some sort of small event where users make more banners and post them up.
> Maybe a roleplay contest? I've seen these in other guilds, the captain and crew create an open, almost-sandbox roleplay, and post it in either the guild itself to foster more posting (good for a guild full of lurkers!) or in Barton Town to attract attention. We might be able to dust off the guild mule for this, too!
> New rules thread. Just a little layout change, to freshen things up.
> New front page. Like above, not messing with the image or the banner or anything, but merely rearranging the text - I think it would make a pleasant change.
Now, I just think these would be good ways to clean up the guild a bit. I'm not saying at all that we need to do everything all at once. I am, however, saying that I am on spring break now, and except for the signature banners and the roleplay contest, I could do a lot of this gruntwork alone, especially with the member list.
Who's in?

I say "Yay~!" It's been far too long since I wanted to join an Rp in here. Let's do something to change that.

Well, maybe with a little dusting out of the cobwebs, you'll find one you like! Or, if you pitch an idea, maybe someone will help you make a thread.

I like where you are going with this, Eylios. A member purge would be beneficial, I suppose . . . but I fear that would make the population of the Refuge dip to the double digits, based on the level of activity.
Clearing out old threads is nice as well, with one proviso- give warning to any thread owner that has say, 10+ pages? Huge RPs can be archived. I don't want to see good work be destroyed in the process of cleaning up.
I had a contest a while back where I personally gave out prizes and gold to the winners for new banners and such- but nearly no entries were made. A RP contest was run, but I don't recall what was made of it. The skeletons should still be in the Crew section to see. Basic scenarios for a person to write in reaction to, and go from there.
All in all, I do like what you propose Eylios. The biggest issue is time consumed in executing it. If we can work out how to get things moving and done fast enough, That will be just fine by me.

Depends on when you do the purge. I think now is a slow time for many, for those in school, probably finals prep and so on.

The purge may wait till summer if that is a serious concern . . . but the guild has been slowing for some time now. I wonder how many really are active here.

I'd say there's about 20 or 30 who post fairly regularly in here. Another suggestion would be that until the guild picks up a bit, we send out an announcement every time a roleplay is started. That way, people will know that this place is still active, and they'll have an idea of what's being offered.

I personally have been saddened by how slow this guild has become. It used to be so active, and now its like I can't get anyone to join an RP...
If this can help rebuild my first guild, I'm all for it.

I have a few roleplays sitting about waiting to be made. I'm waiting for other things to finish up first, but I could use them for a revival effort.

Woohoo! Hopefully you guys will be wiling to pitch in with a little bit of gruntwork, then. If it's possible, oh great Captain, I'd like for you to send out a guild announcement - I'll write it up and everything so all you'd have to do is send it.
The idea is that seeing an announcement will remind people they're in the RPR, and they'll come back a little while, at least to scope the place out and bring up the activity a little.
I think the clean-up will work best if we don't push the "post or you're out" idea, and instead emphasize the less intimidating parts of the guild: a new layout of the front page, rewritten rules... I dunno, maybe it's time to see if we have anything to add to EKA's guide?

Thanks EKA!
It turns out we have eleven pages of members who have not posted yet. We have lots of people who last posted in 2009. From the looks of some of those avatars, I'd say they joined the guild, and completely forgot about it.
We also about another eleven pages of people who's last post was in 2009. Oh, and at this point, I'm on page 14, sorted by last post date in descending order, and I've been moving backwards from page 36.
Page 4 is where the last posts roll over from 2010 to 2011, so I guess that's another ten pages of people who haven't posted in a while. Yoder's name is up there, so I wonder how many others are just too busy with school?
So then, we have about 4 pages (4*20=80) of "active" members, and by active I mean we have about 70 people who have posed since January 2011. Actually, I just counted, 70 exact.
Since January: 70 February: 59 March: 44 April: 23
So if we redefine active as having posted in the last month, which is basically the past two and a half weeks, we have a little over 20 active members.
NOW.
The people who have no posts, thus have no latest post entry number in...
Exactly 233.
713 members, 233 who have never posted, for one reason or another.
EDIT: 233 is the number of people who do have a date for their last post. Interestingly, many of them seem to have a few thousand posts.... but no date. What do? Anyways, working on a second version of these numbers, but here's what I have.
BY DATE:
70 people who last posted in 2011. 203 who last posted in 2010. 207 who last posted in 2009. And 233 who last posted in ????.

Aaaaaactually, scratch that, I'm reading the list incorrectly. Expect new number in a few hours.
EDIT: NEW NUMBERS:
People with zero posts: 211 People with one post: 71 People with 10 or less posts: 131
Or maybe just a few minutes, heh.
Okay, I'm done with number crunching for a while.
