The ominous nature of the castle's laboratory was hard to ignore, even the candle light only served to illuminate the strange objects and cast frightening shadows dancing on the stone walls. Still, this was home to Tuomas. He was currently engaged in mixing a few concoctions on a large wooden desk. Once every few minutes, he would turn his attention to a nearby book and read a passage or two from it's faded pages. Books lined several tall shelves of the room, mingling with countless containers of glowing liquids. In the center lie a large stone slab graced only by a still female form. The deathly pale skin was evident even in the dim light, though signs of decay were not present. Tuomas stood and crossed over to the heavy wooden door that was the entrance and peered down the dark winding staircase. Sounds of a large gathering echoed up from the lower dining hall, but this wasn't his concern. Silently he returned to his studies.

Her heels clicked as she walked down the staircase, a dim light glowing and flickering at the bottom. Kirche assumed it was a candle, and was curious as to what she might find down here. Once she had reached the bottom of the staircase, she saw a young man at a desk creating some sort of concotion. She took her index finger and lightly tapped on the door. Pardon the intrusion sir, I was wandering the Castle and noticed this staircase. I became interested and decided to come down. Do you mind if I keep you company? Kirche smiled at the man, her eyes showing no emotion but gentle curiousity.

The young man jumped at the voice, almost knocking over a glass bottle in the process. He spun around quickly and stammered to address the woman. "Ah! I'I beg your forgiveness...I did not hear you..."

Forgiviness? For what reason? I am the one who should apologize, I did not mean to frighten you. As I had said I was just wandering the Castle and happened upon this room. I hope you don't mind, but I would enjoy sitting down here with you. You seem quite lonesome and I'm sure a nice, healthy conversation would perk up your spirits. Kirche smiled and walked over towards the boy And please, treat me as if I was a regular being. I'm nothing of importance, so formalities are not necessary.

He bowed politely and gestured to a small wooden chair nearby. "You are very kind to think of me. Is there anything that I can get you?"

Thank you but I'm fine. If I need something I'm sure I will find it eventually. My parents raised me right and made sure I always knew where I came from and how to provide for myself. So, what are you making mister... i'm sorry you never stated your name. Oh dearie me, it seems I haven't also, I apologize. My name is Kirche, and you are?

His voice was quiet and he looked down before answering. "I- I am called Tuomas. It is nice to meet you, miss Kirche."

Your quite the shy one aren't you Mister Tuomas. Kirche giggled as she placed her index finger under his chin and pulled his head up so he could look her in the eyes I promise you I won't bite, there's no reason to be shy around me dear... She folded her hands into her lap and smiled at the boy, enjoying his presence. So what are you making?

The youth's cheeks reddened slightly, but he looked back to the desk where his various potion bottles and books were strewn about. "I'm afraid I am not so much making anything as trying to discover a certain chemical reaction." His eyes glanced quickly to the slab in the center of the room and then picked up two vials. One contained a glowing blue liquid while the other was clear. "I can't seem to get the ratio right though."

Interested in his work, Kirche moved to the edge of her seat and studied the liquids in the containers. She was not well informed about the works of Alchemy, but she had always been interested. Well exactly what reaction are you looking for? And for what purpose? A hint of red ran across her face I'm sorry, I tend to ask a lot of questions. Please tell me if I am bothering you... I would hate to interrupt your work...

Tuomas shook his head vehemently. "Oh! It's no bother, not at all!" He brought the vial closers for her inspection. "If my research is correct, the proper combination of the two should cause a chain reaction in a dead plant causing the cellular structure to shed the dead parts and quickly replace them with live, healthy cells."

What plants have you tested on so far? Kirche became even more interested now that she knew he was trying to help plant life. Thoughts overflowed her mind of the beautiful flowers and trees that could be healed from their wiltering state if Tuomas figured the exact calculation to combine the liquids. Her face turned more and more red the deeper into her thoughts she traveled.

"Only a few of the roses in the gardens, but once I get the exact combination figured out I hope to travel to the dead gardens and see what can be accomplished there." He carefully set the vials back into their proper places and closed some of the books that were strewn around the room.

Coming back into reality, Kirche composed herself and hoped he hadn't seen her blushing. Oh? That would be wonderful! Maybe then it would finally become a lushes garden of colors again. Kirche guffawed as she thought about what she had just said. I'm sorry, I feel as if I'm not even a vampiress sometimes. The stereotypes get to me and I feel that I always have to be this dark and mysterious figure, when in all actuality I love life and every challenge and wonderous thing it brings.
