Today is the first day I'm going to college and my mom is raging on that I should dress prettier and wear a lot of make up for college. crying
But I don't feel comfortable about it. I don't like myself enough to do that. I has self esteem issues! gonk I had issues way before senior year at high school and she never notices it nor care about till now. She doesn't care how I feel, she cares what I look like. Then she insults me about it and threatens that she will not take me to college unless I pretty up (I can walk it's not that far lolololol). She no help at all. So I refuse to pretty up. mad

my aunt (the one that had guardianship of me), has always tried to get me to dress up, since high school, and has tried to make me dress as one of the popular kids. It wasn't me.
Now in college (21, and a 4th year), she still tries to get me to change how i look and dress up and wear make up. I wear make up when I feel like it and my normal garb is a pair of blue jeans and one of the many school shirts I have since they were free.
I can kind of see what your mom is getting at with wanting you to dress up since it is the frist day somewhere new, and truly college a place to re invent yourself (if it isn't CC).
Just ignore your mother, if you are old enough to go to college then I'm going to guess you are old enough to be your own woman. ^_^

My mother used to try that with me...trying to get me to dress more girly, not really the make up thing. it NEVER worked though and she gave up a LONG time ago. I almost never wear make up, I have my hair cut "like a boy" and I usually wear jeans & t-shirts/sweatshirts. Whats funny about it is that even back when I was single and dating I dressed this way (although I had long hair, but I really don't think it would have made a difference) and I never had problems getting a date. It's pure and utter nonsense that you can't "attract a partner" or whatever if you don't conform to societies gender roles & expectations of "femininity" BLAH razz You mentioned a self esteem issues. if deep down you WANT to wear make-up, by all means DO! It CAN be a way of self expression. But if you DON'T want it, then do not let her push you. the important thing is to find a way to be comfortable in your own skin! And THAT is what is truly attractive to others, in my experience.
But if it was ME, and my mother was acting that way..lol... I would tell her "OK! you buy me the clothes & the makeup!!!" and then with her money I would buy all the nastiest, streetwalker looking clothes (2 sizes too small) that i knew would piss her off, tease my hair up (if I had hair, HA!) and put on more make-up than a circus clown! lol that would be the last time my mother would try that haha! twisted

@Mistress of Rain; Yeah, my mom would say, "why don't you dress like those little ladies?". >.>;; College was unexpected, it was night and there were a lot of older people. I'm glad people didn't seem to focus on looks some came in pajamas. smile If I live on my own then yeah I can be my own woman. cool In the meantime while living under my parent's roof I still have to obey my mom. xD
@Kipluck; Wow 31, I thought you were younger. O: Moms probably see us as barbie dolls and like to dress us up. I bet my mom had fun dressing me up as a toddler.
@imderanged; My mom would tell me that you'll get more dates when you're more feminine. >.> But I've seen tomboy chicks that get more dates than me! lol My weight is effecting my self esteem, luckily my mom and I just started working out. As soon as I loose a little more weight then I'll be back in business. Right now I'm in an emo mood. gonk Sounds like a good idea, I'll buy a lot of make up and glitter and look really silly. I'll buy a lot of hair clips and clip it on my hair everywhere. 4laugh

Feel ya pain, believe me. When I was really little my mum used to dress me up in all sorts of frilly pink and white dresses...and then I discovered overalls and gumboots and dirt...lol.
No more overalls for me as I find them too much of a hassle but I do still send her into fits as I have been known to run traps in my pajamas and gumboots. And if I'm not in scungy 'bush' clothes I am dressed in black. Not hardcore 'goth' but darn close enough.
Ultimately, you need to do whatever the hell it is that makes you feel comfortable and true to yourself. I'm quite serious about that. Bow to pressure on this one and you will likely regret it for a long time.

when summer hits i have to move back in with my aunt though since i bought two more gerbils (to go with jethro) they arn't aloud back in the house, so they will hopefully be going to my cousins house.
And yeah as college students we ware what is comfortable.... you can tell the freshman up here because they still try to dress to the fashion... up here it gets rather cold, so we dress warm and what not. and i live 12 hours away (depending on who is driving)... i get the *whatareyouwearing* glare if i show up in pj pants...

Hmm guess i'm lucky. My mum doesn't care how I dress or what I wear. Though I think she's pretty happy with the way I don't care about make up. I hate that stuff lol.
My friends always want to do my hair and make up though. Personally, I like the way I look with a simple pair of jeans, a nice shirt, and a clearm natural face. Not the ordinary expectation of a girl in the "popular' school group, but it's me.

Just something else to complain about I guess.
@Shanna: yay, monster makeup!!! I made the most awesome homemade blood once. The perfect consistency and as it dried it turned crumbly and brown like real blood. It also tasted like chocolate.

My mom gave up on my fashion sense too. I wear... Band shirts Torn jeans Colorful belts Hairbows s**t ton of eye makeup Cowboy boots All of my piercings and my black hoodie I also dye my hair a lot, usually rainbow colors She hates it, but I refuse to change. And I have had the same guy for two years, the whole "look feminine" thing is nothing but Bull.
