this thread was clearly inspired by the mother thread. i just couldn't stop thinking about how awesome my dad is.

my father is about the coolest dude i could ever imagine. my mom travels a lot for work, so normally a week consists of about four to five days alone with my dad, and the rest with both of my parents present. it's been like this since 8th grade, and i've bonded more than i ever could with my father.
for starters, i can talk to him about anything. absolutely anything. and he'll listen. he won't tune me out and he won't drown me in stories about himself. he'll listen to what i say, evaluate it, and respond with a solution or a well-thought out opinion. also, i'm comfortable as ******** with him. i can swear with him talk (vaguely) about pot and sex in regular conversation, i can be high as BALLS without telling him and say something absolutely ridiculous, and he'll laugh at it. best part is, he is a professional bass player. it's more of a hobby than a career since he married my mom, but holy s**t does that white boy have some funk. he is the goddamn funkiest 50-year-old guy this side of california. he wears dashikis to his gigs. don't know what that is? google it. keep in mind he's 50 years old and white. do it.
forreals, though, he's an incredible musician. he plays bass like a mad man and he doesn't even know how to read music. if he didn't marry my mother and move to california, he would've been up there with bon jovi and springsteen for famous new jersey "rock stars". of course, his band would be the best. they had the best name, too. but despite everything, he still plays bass. my mother restricted him to ONE ROOM in the entire house to put all of HIS stuff in, and it's all about basses and equipment required. despite his limitations, he has incredible passion. i absolutely love it.

i could go on forever more. he's the coolest guy i've ever met. i love my father. i wish to one day smoke weed with him. he's an incredible guy, and i have massive respect for him, despite his mistakes and constant lashings from my mother. i love my dad.

Yes, yes we do.

While most of this guild is incredibly dysfunctional, I have to say that I love my dad. He can be kind of an a*****e when it comes to how he sees other people, but then again, who isn't? I'm not as close to him as I am with my mom, but I still know that if I need anything, I can go to him for help. This last year, when I was having ex-boyfriend and ex-roommate problems, he was always there to listen, and to help me. And even though he can annoy me sometimes, I'm more like him than I am my mom; we share the same sense of humor and love for dorky things.

I guess part of it has to do with how I'm an only child, but I'm really close to both of my parents. They both have their quirks, but I wouldn't trade either of them for anything.

heart Dads.

I am 10x closer with my dad than my mom, and I love all of his kooks. He has big gray eyes and one of them is lazy. He has a funny mustache. He's a classical guitar player so he plays all night when he comes home from work. He's traveled the world and the calmest, most insightful person I know.

Dad issues, I never understood 'em. I always thought my dad was the most epic win of all.

He's the guy who knows the most inappropriate stories, and even though my mom will whack him on the arm and yell "ROBERT!" in a disapproving tone, he'll tell us anyways about such things as the monkey who used to masturbate in front of small children at the zoo or the time he and his friends in high school snuck into an abandoned mental house and got drunk or high( or both) and then jumped out the window when the security guards chased them.
He jokes that other than the hilariously bad/faded tattoo he has on one arm, he's going to get Ayn Rand, I R Baboon and his deceased Siamese cat Sputnik done on him somewhere, once it was "the one a** cheek I'm not gonna learn braille on".

He'll send us semi-coherent jet-lagged emails from Hong Kong or Anchorage when he's off on a flight about some d***o coworker or some old man who died on a flight, and when he gets back a week later at 10 PM on a Friday night we can sit on the couch for hours with a stack of movies or a stack of records and just hang and talk - and these days, drink too.

Sure,sometimes he's a grumpy old ******** who hasn't got a good thing to say at all about the world today, but I know he's only human, and he's allowed to have Grumpy Old Man days too.

Tl;dr, my dad is awesome.

My dad's an alright guy I guess.
I dunno he's been out of my life for eons and he just came back like 2 years ago.
And even though it's been two whole years I still don't know how to feel about him.
We go bowling every other saturday and that's cool, I can talk to him about most things. He's not a terrible person or anything
but I can't even really say that I love him. Not yet.

I get along okay with my dad, and I do care about him, but I can't forgive him for everything he's done to my mother and I.

My dad is awesome when he's not being a douche and backing up my mother when we're in a fight even if he knows she's wrong. But ilke, when my mom left for Greece last summer in February to be with 'her people' again because she was depressed or whatever lame a** excuse, my sister went out every night to see her boyf. So I felt bad leaving my dad by himself and we ******** BONDED, yo. So now either he will be like "no b***h ur rong lol" to my mom or agree with her, but then after be like ***** BE CRAZY YO.
