The Black Dawn is an obscure but known legend throughout the inner reaches of the Milky Way. This medium sized spaceship with a jet black hull glides gracefully through space, sticking mostly to the outer regions of the galaxy unless given a reason not to.

In the outer regions the ship is well known and met with a mixture of respect and fear. Its captain, Captain Feroca, is a legend but even those in the outer regions have no idea what the captain actually looks like. All they know is the ship. There are probably contacts in various outlaw ports that do know who the captain is but they are fearsome enough that no one would dare try to pry the secret from their lips. All people know is that to see the Black Dawn and not be flying the colours of a Pirate is to invite attack and destruction from the fearsome vessel and it's hardened crew. Woe betides any fool that initiates conflict with the Black Dawn.

Recently a legend has surfaced about a lost treasure ship adrift in the void between galaxies. This void is whispered with fear, legends of ghost ships, merciless aliens and far more otherworldly things that haunt the darkness between the wholesome light of the stars. Sensing a chance to cement the legend of their ship forever and make enough money to retire, Captain Feroca has decided to set a course for this void. The crew know well the legends of the area they are entering but they are willing to risk it for the legends are there is enough treasure on the ship to by an entire galactic sector. If this is true then even a cut amongst the crew would still be enough to buy an entire planet!

Early Galactic History

The history of the Milky Way is stained with blood. When humanity first began to colonise the stars, they did so in peace. Their technology grew and their relationship with the other races was largely friendly. In the year four thousand humanity's technology was almost god-like in proportions and their empire stretched from the solar system to almost every corner of the Milky Way, including many allied alien races. Unfortunately during that year some factions began to desire independence from what they saw as a bloated system of government. Thus began the galactic civil war that raged for a hundred years.

After the dust had settled from the war the galaxy was greatly changed. The alliance of the races had broken reducing every race to their own collection of systems rather than a united whole. Technology had been set back at least a thousand years and the population of the galaxy had been halved with many beautiful planets now uninhabitable wastelands. From the ashes of this sorry state of affairs rose the new Dynastic Empire. Twelve wealthy families banded together to buy, destroy or ally with any system of humans they could get a hold of. After one hundred years they had control of every human system in the inner part of the galaxy and the vast majority of the outer part. They established friendly trade relations with alien races still willing to speak to them after the disastrous war and eventually formed a powerful dictatorial government.

The Dynastic Empire

The year is now five thousand and eighty. The Dynastic Empire has been in control for almost nine hundred years with no sign of slowing. Technology has still not recovered but there have been great leaps in recent centuries. Humanity itself has become divided into very distinct castes which are very hard to get out of once born into.

At the top of the hierarchy sits the Dynastic Families. A number of massive sprawling families of various branches each vying to put their head as the next Galactic President. Only Dynasts can serve in the Galactic Senate.

Below them are the wealthy galactic merchant families and Sector Families. Their influence is either tied to one sector or the fortunes of their business. Only sector family members can be elected to Sector Senates.

Third in power and influence are the modest galactic merchants and System Families. System Families form the government of individual solar systems using whatever political system they might wish. They answer directly to the Sector Senate.

Fourth are the Planetary Governments and the powerful families of individual planets. Their influence only extends to the planet they are on and perhaps a nearby planet or moon. They answer directly to the System Government in whatever form that may be.

Finally there are the ordinary citizens of the Dynastic Empire who have little to no voice. They live, work and die in obscurity.

Outer Sectors

On the outer regions of the Milky Way lie many independent human sectors. Some of them are lawless, some more tyrannical than the worst Dynasts, and others are a paragon of equality. One thing they have in common is a bitter dislike of the Dynastic Empire. It is in this place that a new breed of humanity has come into being: Pirates.

Pirates

Living outside the rigid caste system of the Dynastic Empire and the governments of the outer regions, The Pirates reject all form of law except their own, wanting nothing more but to be free to make money in whatsoever way they will. For some this means nothing more than some smuggling, others mercenary work and for others the most well-known of Pirate activities: Piracy.

The Legendary Ship

User Image

The Black Dawn is a medium sized ship with a crew complement of two hundred. At the pinnacle of the crew stand the senior officers who have responsibility over various departments that all serve to keep the ship running at top condition whether travelling or in battle.

The ship is at least two hundred years old but despite that it is probably in far better condition that most ships a tenth of its age. It is armed to the teeth with high-grade weaponry, equipped with a boarding spike (Literally a drill with an airlock attached to it allowing ships to be boarded from anywhere giving a far greater element of surprise than using a standard airlock.), and one of the fastest engines in the galaxy. It has been known to take full armed military vessels up to (but not including) battleship class sizes.

In addition, the gunnery deck has a large airlock at the prow of the ship that can be opened to allow parts and ammunition for the massive guns on the ship to be brought aboard. Also, all the outer cargo bays have airlocks for entry and exit. The inner cargo bay is used to hold the more precious treasure -- only the captain, the first mate and the quartermaster can open the inner cargo bays.

Senior Crew Positions

Captain Feroca: Contrary to legend Captain Feroca is not over two hundred years old. Humanity does live longer thanks to modern technology but not that long, yet. Every captain of the Black Dawn is called Captain Feroca, be it man or woman. Their duty is to recruit new crewmembers, enforce the code and they have overall command of the Black Dawn.

First Mate: The right hand of Captain Feroca. Their duties are many and varied but always they must be completely loyal to their captain. They are one of the few people who can publicly disagree with the Captain and not get shot on the spot.

Their duties include:
  • Principal adviser to the captain
  • Implementer of the captain's orders
  • Preparation and issue of duty rosters
  • Commander of the vessel in the event of the captain's absence, incapacitation or death
  • Work with the ship's doctor on crew evaluations
  • Train and lead landing/boarding parties.
  • Supervise loading and off-loading of cargo.

Quartermaster: If the first-mate is the right hand then the Quartermaster is the left. The Quartermaster is unusual in that they are elected from the rank and file to a position of trust.

Their duties include:
  • Management of all ship resources (provisions, equipment, money, etc.)
  • Calculating the value of recent takings (under supervision of the Captain) and the value of the cut for each crewmember.

Chief Gunner: In charge of the ship's gunnery department. Generally they are tasked with training gunners, supervising maintenance of ship weaponry and ship security.

Chief Engineer: In charge of the ship's engineering department. Generally they are tasked with training engineers, supervising maintenance of the ship's engines and ship repairs.

Chief Pilot: Normally they are the ones piloting the ship. When not doing so they are expected to either train co-pilots or rest. It can be a very stressful job but they at least never have to worry about getting drafted into a boarding party.

Navigator: They plot the courses of the ship as well as being in charge of all the scanning and communication equipment.

Ship's Doctor: The only officer who can force the captain to stand down. They have great power but at the price that they are usually the first to get lynched if the crew feel that the medical team cannot be trusted. On top of being the only trained doctor on staff, they are also expected to train orderlies and nurses when not treating patients or resting. They get a very large set of quarters, in comparison to others, but they have the problem of having to share it with the orderlies and nurses if there aren't enough beds for patients.

Profiles

Username: Xaimee
Real Name: Josie Valen
Pirate Name: Captain Feroca VI
Position: Captain
Age: 28
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Before Piracy: Josie was born the oldest daughter to the Valen dynasty, one of the wealthiest extended families in the inner Milky Way, having holdings in many of the inner sectors and even a house on Earth itself. She was born to the main line of the family, a distant fiftieth in the line of succession, and brought up in a life of luxury. Part of her yearned to be able to do more than just receive lessons, live life as a dilettante and wait to be married off but the dynastic families were so powerful escape was hopeless.
During a business trip with her parents, at the age of seventeen, fate gave her a way out. On the way to a sector near the outer regions, her parent's ship was attacked and taken by the Black Dawn. Captain Feroca V took her by force to be his wench, finding himself attracted to her unusual eyes and hair. Her parents were left alive but adrift. She hasn't seen her parents since.
Life on the Black Dawn: As Captain Feroca's wench she lived in luxury in his quarters but was rarely allowed to step foot outside them except to accompany him on trips off-ship. She was taken almost nightly but to her relief never became pregnant thanks to his insistence on her using birth control (He would not have a child on his ship).
As the years passed the fearsome man began to fall for her. He began to tell her the great secrets of the Black Dawn, such as him being the fifth Captain Feroca, the others having long since died or retired. After five years of captivity he finally allowed her to become part of the crew (Something she had grown to desire when she found her own heart softening towards him and her desire for adventure reawakening.) and even bought her some almost priceless alien biomechanical enhancements (vastly superior to human bionics) that she wanted in order to please her as well as give her the ability to defend herself.
On her twenty seventh birthday he announced that he would be retiring and that, as customary, those who wished to succeed him were to duel to first blood (or the equivalent) in order to decide the new captain. Thanks to her training, cunning and bionics, she succeeded the man she had grown fond of. He was disappointed she did not want to retire with him but she said that he needed to find a woman that could love him back rather than just care for him. Reluctantly he agreed and bestowed the title of Captain Feroca the sixth upon her. The crew were all bribed and sent on their way. The next six months of her life were then spent putting a new crew together as well as avoiding her family's agents who had long since given up finding her alive but could still recognise her. She did not feel like she could return to her family after so long to live the life as a trophy wife.
It's been a year since she first set out with a full crew (six months since her twenty eighth birthday) and true to her new name she has reforged the Black Dawn's reputation. Her crew have grown to respect her despite her gender and dynastic mannerisms. Their holds are regularly overflowing with loot to be sold and the ship has never been so well armed or in such good condition. With the news of this treasureship, she is determined for this to be her final job before retiring herself as a wealthy dilettante in some distant sector to live out the rest of her life in peace and blissful obscurity -- she hasn't decided if she wants to rejoin her family by then. Certainly her power would force them to treat her as an equal.
Personality: Josie is a very determined woman with a steely core to her, hidden behind years of training as a dynastic scion. She still speaks with an obvious dynastic accent and many of her mannerisms reflect her upbringing, albeit with a slight pirate twang. Her past is something that still bothers her greatly. Although it ended well, it was still very hard for her and she bare a few emotional scars from it -- mostly she has a problem with intimacy. It has also made her extremely guarded about her past. Those who ask about it are either ignored, or sharply warned that it is none of their business. Outside of enquiries about her past, she is fairly friendly and open to almost anyone and greatly cares for her crew -- they are like a family to her. Despite her friendly and caring manner she is utterly ruthless to her enemies. If she comes across a pirate not keeping to the code they are immediately dealt with in an almost brutal manner. To her, loyalty to one's crew and the code are what separates a pirate from a mere thug and brigand.
Abilities: Thanks to the rare alien biomechanical enhancements her former lover bought her, she has the ability to control electricity. To many it appears almost like magic but it is very much scientific in nature. The alien technology is so advanced that for all intents and purposes her body is completely human, instead tiny nano-machines that are completely undetectable and indestructible course through her veins giving her the remarkable ability. They also allow her to regenerate even the most severe wounds and they do not even leave a scar. Finally, they enhance her natural bodily functions making her rarely hungry, thirsty or susceptible to poison or illness. She is faster, stronger and more agile than a normal human also. Her only real weakness is she is still very much mortal, and there are plenty aliens and enhanced humans who can match her physically -- few have the power of lightning, however.
Equipment: Josie carries no equipment except her personal shield. For offence she relies completely on her biomechanical enhancements.
Appearance: Captain Feroca the Sixth in Uniform
Relationships:
  • The First Mate: Very loyal. I sometimes find him a little boring but he has a decent knowledge of history and tactics from what he picked up while being the companion of a Dynast child. I am slightly wary, however. If he figured out who I was it would be awkward. I do not think he would betray me, but he might inadvertently let slip... Especially is the trained instincts of a Dynast servant were to kick in while he was around me.
  • Chief Gunner: Somewhat of a misogynist but he knows how to handle the rather rare and expensive guns of the Black Dawn so his character flaws are more than worth what he brings to the crew. He is wise enough not to waste his time flirting with me. I made it very clear after our first meeting that he was never to speak like that to me again... It does not stop him pulling other kinds of stunts in an attempt to goad me. I put up with it since he really is the best... so far.
  • Chief Pilot: Ah yes, Shasa... She is an interesting girl. Older than me in years but hard to treat as such. Her upbringing has made her naturally childish, and despite her years away from her home, she still very much has a princess attitude. She respects authority, at least, so I have no problem with her demeanour for the large part. I have to admit that I find her absolutely adorable, I sometimes find myself having to restrain my hand from petting her ears whenever I am close. A lot of the time I wonder what is going on in that head of hers -- she is not the most forthcoming when it comes to her feelings.
  • Navigator: Rarely am I forced to go to the length of press-ganging a navigator, but I was in a bind and needed someone. The boy is certainly competent, but since I was not able to vet him like I normally do when recruiting, I am keeping a close eye on him. He probably does not realise just how close -- my augmentations do more than just make me strong and shoot lightning.
  • Chief Engineer: Honestly, I find it hard to believe she is the same age as me. Perhaps it is just the years of being on this ship, but when I see her I see her as merely a slip of a girl with an amazing talent for mechanics. I might just be judging her by her childish love of machines and her lack of self-control -- or maybe her rather teenager-like attitude to problems. Regardless, she is truly the best engineer going around and therefore she has a place here so long as she wants it.
  • Ship Doctor: Unlike many, I am very much aware of her unique biological position. I at least feel a degree of kinship, in that we both have alien organisms within us that makes us very much less than human. I suppose the difference is that her one has a personality and control over her to a degree, my alien part is purely biological machinery. I like her for the most part -- she is the only person I would trust to run maintenance on my nanomachines. To assuage the insane curiosity of her other half, I gave her all the data I had on my machines. It allows her to do a better job and stops her from trying to cut where she's not supposed to...
  • Quartermaster: I admit I sometimes have doubts about bringing back one of the old crew. He knows my real name. He knows much of my past and what I used to be to the old captain. Perhaps it is because I defeated him that he holds his silence, or it is loyalty to the code and the ship. I do not know, but I know that he is certainly an excellent Quartermaster, and so far he has not made me regret taking him back. I still feel a bit of resentment from our fight, but what is done is done. I beat him -- he did not realise 'the captain's wench' was strong enough to tear up an airlock -- and I did so without humiliating or taunting him. I respected his strength, his loyalty, and his skill. I hope he feels the same way about me now as I did then and now.

Quarters: Josie's quarters are a sumptuous mix of black, greens, tans and golds -- colours associated with her since long before Feroca V came into her life. The floor is covered in rich carpet that is always carefully maintained, a few black rugs with green lines in various designs (Similar to her 'uniform') are placed on various parts of the floor, mostly on the places that she tends to walk across. A partition of frosted -- and shielded - glass covers the back quarter of the room where a luxurious four-poster bed with black silks sheets and soft pillows can be found. A couple of small dark wood bedside tables either side are usually found to hold the books she is currently reading before retiring for the night. The front of half of her quarters contain a small sitting area with very comfortable black leather armchairs around a small coffee table. The final quarter contains many bookshelves with her own personal collection of books as well as some cabinets containing items precious to her. Finally she has her own private bathroom made out of solid black marble with gold fittings. It contains a large jacuzzi bath -- large enough for two if she had the whim to invite someone to join her -- as well as a sink and toilet.

Username: SoulySephiroth
Real Name: Tobias Grey
Pirate Name: Rahl
Position: First Mater
Age: 22
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Before Piracy: Tobias was born on Earth. His family was from a very low class and could almost never support themselves or him. Since life was tough for him, he learned to take care of himself and often was able to gather and earn more food than his siblings and parents. At the age of 10, his parents decided to sell him to a rich family in the high ranks of the Rahl dynasty to serve as a playmate and servant for their nine year old son.
The Rahl family was vastly rich, had a rather large home, and only one son who was very spoiled. He was bored all of the time. Tobias had choices: he could run, be caught and killed, or live as a slave to this family in a nice warm home where he would be feed and clothed.
Then the unexpected happened. The Rahls had grown to like Tobias for his intelligence and hard work. Although they never considered him one of their own, and would surely never give him standing in society, treated him right. The Rahl boy, James, grew close to Tobias as they came into their teens and began to consider him a close friend.
Tobias had accepted his servant role as a job rather than a forced task. While growing up with the Rahl’s, Tobias had a formal education, learning how to read and write properly. He loved to read what little was left of early human history; the lore of pirates sailing the vast seas with only the stars to guide them, the great battles and wars fought over various freedoms and lands were some of his favorites. He wished for a life where people weren’t judged by how much they earned, but their deeds and actions.
Tobias knew that James was to take over for the Rahl line when he became of age. He felt that the Rahls were family that he never had and asked the them to let him undergo training so that he might continue to serve, and later protect, the one who he thought of as a brother. So Tobias learned stealth and combat with fiber wires.
Tobias was seventeen when he attended a shipboard gathering with the Rahls. He didn’t know much about being a bodyguard, but that's what he had sort of become. James Rahl and Tobias had been sitting on the viewing deck when it had happened: the Gathering ship was taken under fire and suffered heavy damage. James' parents were kill almost instantly on the first shot of impact. A pirate ship boarded, robbing and then killing the passengers.
While Tobias struggled against captors who had pinned him down, he watched his only friend get shot and cut up. When it was time for his turn, the Black Dawn showed up. The pirate on the Rahl's ship filled with terror and started to flee as their ship was torn apart.
Having no where else to go, he fought his way through fleeing pirates and made his way to the Dawn’s pirates salvaging what little could be claimed as his. He asked to join. After showing off his fighting prowess, was accepted.
Life on the Black Dawn: While being a crew member for the Black Dawn, Tobias was picked on heavily. As the newbie he was ordered to do mundane tasks. He accepted them all, being used to that kind of life.
He got into many fights with other pirates, could hold himself well in any argument, and became respected among the other crew members. His deeds on and off ship earned him higher ranks. He often had ideas he wanted to bring to the captain, but always had to follow protocol and tell them to the First Mate instead. He set his sights on that position.
Tobias was never given the credit he deserved for those ideas and grew a fierce determination to achieving his goal. He was able to earn the role of first mate by fighting for the title, as per custom aboard the pirate ship. Due to his reputation he had little competition; the others who would have been a real challenge had all accepted other roles and were comfortable with them. He never did kill an of his competitors, he simply defeated them.
Over time, he became a respected part of the crew, and a respected first mate.
Personality: Tobias is very loyal to his crew. He treats them like family, as long as they pay him the same respect. He can be funny at times and at other times, deadly serious. He uses various tidbits about his knowledge of history and tactics to make his decisions. He’ll listen to you speak, and will almost never cut you off. He’s deadly loyal to the Captain who took him in, accepted him and gave him the life he always wanted.
Abilities: He has light hand to hand martial arts training and training with stealth wire techniques. He’s not very good with a knife or sword and is an average shot. He is quick on his feet and extremely quiet.
Equipment: Tobias' primary weapons are a set of very long microfilament razor wires, which he controls as if they were extensions of his own body. The wires are sharp enough to slice through steel and concrete with no trouble though can be used to bind and restrain targets without causing damage. The wires retract into the gloves that Tobias wears and can be activated by pulling on the tips of his fingers. He carries a knife in his boot in case needed. He can also use the wires to create a net that can slice projectiles, such as bullets, into pieces, though against laser weaponry they don’t hold up.
Appearance: Tobias wears an off-white shirt and a dark brown pair of pants with a thick crossing of suspenders on his back that are tucked into calf high black boots. His skin is somewhat pale; his eyes are green. His hair is probably the most unique thing about him, as it is a medium length dark gray.
Relationships:
  • The Captain: He is incredibly loyal to her, finds her to be interesting and knowledgeable. Usually only goes against her if he feels something is really needed to be said, and is honest to her.
  • Chief Gunner: Tobias does not like him when he is perverted, at least to of a pervert. He finds his jokes amusing, as he is also at times a jokester, and will attempt to at times engage him in banter.
  • Chief Pilot: Has no real issues with her except that he seems to pick up that she thinks she is superior to everyone else. She always seems loyal, and so that works for him.
  • Navigator: Tobias gets the feeling that this man doesn’t like him much, which in turn doesn’t really bother him, as he can’t stand how angry, and impulsive. Tobias tends to keep away, and very careful with his words, even though he knows he has free range, he still tries to give Gareth less reason to make rude comments towards him.
  • Chief Engineer: Tobias has no real opinion towards her; he sometimes dislikes the smart-a** remarks, but otherwise is amused by them. He does find her physically attractive, but not in anyway enough to make him nervous or play favorites.
  • Ship Doctor: The doctor creeps Tobias out. Its mainly the eyes. They remind him of the stories of demons he read as child. Tobias also seems to get annoyed by the massive badgering of questions he gets from the doctor when he goes in. She always seems to want to know as much information as possible.Overall he knows he can depend on the doctor, but Tobias still swears to this day that he heard her once say that she wanted to cut open his entire arm for a small cut that needed minor stitching.
  • Quartermaster: Think he’s quiet, but other than nothing bad or good.

Quarters: Tobias quarters are lined with red clothes along the walls to black out the bland metal halls of the ship. A desk is to the right of the ship, as well as a book case filled with various surviving books of humanity. His bed is to the left. A small semi circles couch is pushed up against the hall and matches the curve of the back wall. Its rather bland, but Tobias must of his time wandering the ship or on the bridge observing events so it doesn’t bother him.

Username: Louisdepointdulack
Real Name: Robert McAllister
Pirate Name: Robbie or Allister
Position: Chief Gunner
Age: 29
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Before Piracy: Robert was raised on one of the space colonies that had built up around the outer stars of the Milky Way, his family made a meager living off of his father’s skill in crafting weapons. Since alien technology had started to edge out human weaponry though, his family struggled to get by. Robbie went to work at the age of thirteen, helping to unload the ships that docked at their colony, and he had small jobs of delivering packages for higher ups. In fact, he got into the business of drug delivery, if someone needed to get a package of space dust delivered then Robbie was there man. By the time he was twenty, Robbie had a fairly comfortable living but his family had disowned him because of his illegal means of obtaining the riches. It was ironic in a way, he got into it to help them but it only ended up pushing them away. The game got to be too much though and he had to skip town, Robbie headed out to find a different life, a new identity. He found his way to a little settlement of thieves, druggies, pirates, and all other walks of life. He assumed the name Allister and became a bartender, hearing the secrets of this place, settling fights with his wits, guns, or with his own strength when need be. He stayed in this settlement until the Captain came calling, and some part of him knew that this was the next step in his life.
Life on the Black Dawn: When he was approached with the opportunity to be a member of the Black Dawn’s crew he was more then surprised. He knew that he had his own skills, he knew how to forge weapons and Allister certainly knew how to use them. The surprise of having a woman captain wore off quickly though, especially when he realized that he couldn’t get away with anything under her. She was the only woman that he had ever met that could kick his a**, but that didn’t keep him from messing with her on occasion. He likes his life aboard the Black Dawn and for the first time in his existence, Allister felt like he fit somewhere.
Personality: He’s a bit of a jokester, Allister can be serious but only when the situation calls for it. Allister enjoys whittling away at people’s nerves but he has his charming moments. He can be a perfect gentlemen or an annoying pervert at the drop of a hat. Allister is able to keep his calm most of the time, but if someone he cares about is threatened than Allister will react with an anger that borders on manic.
Abilities: No powers really, unless his aim counts. It isn’t enhanced, Allister has just had a lot of practice with weaponry.
Equipment: Guns are his favorite toys, he has at least three on his person at all times. A dagger is often within reach as well, basically anything Allister can get his hands on can be considered a weapon.
Appearance: Allstar
Relationships:
  • The Captain: Robbie would be lying if he said that he wasn’t a little afraid of his captain. Then again, a great captain should put fear and respect in the hearts of their crew. Of course, that doesn’t exempt the captain from Robbie’s flirting ways, she is a good looking woman and therefore he can be caught making sly comments here and there. He is loyal to her though, willing to put himself in harms way if need be.
  • The First Mate: He respects him as one would respect any man who knew the code and lived by it. Robbie would avoid getting in a fight with him but that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t play a prank or two. He shares words with him when need be but he sometimes doesn’t know how to handle the other man’s serious outlook.
  • Pilot: It’s obvious that the other isn’t exactly fond of him, but Robbie will try to win her over eventually. He realizes that she thinks lowly of him and believes herself to be better then him but he doesn’t hold it against her. Robbie tries not to bother her that much though because no one likes to hang around someone that thinks you’re lower then they are on the totem pole of life.
  • Navigator: He doesn’t know him, but he might as well be part of their family. He would have to watch the kid and see what came of it, obviously Gareth came from the same kind of background that he had but he wasn’t about to offer to be a role model.
  • Chief Engineer: Another woman on board is always appreciated, it was beginning to be a bit too male heavy for his liking anyways. It’s kind of cute the way she follows him, he appreciates her ability to listen to his rants on better gun technology. However he has gotten knocked in the head by her wrench once or twice.
  • Ship Doctor: Although she is a woman and he does enjoy the opposite sex, Robbie is not fond of needles or unnecessary exams of his more private areas. So he is a little more careful around the Doc, since she doesn’t seem to take his flirting too well.
  • Quartermaster: Robbie doesn’t throw the word friend around lightly. The crew is like a family and therefore goes along with the saying that you can’t pick them but Robbie would choose to hang around Gash. He enjoys playing jokes on the guy, stealing his chocolate bars, and annoying the hell out of him but he sincerely looks at him like a good friend

Quarters: In a perpetual state of messiness, there is a bunk with a sheets in a lump in the center of it. There is random junk that he has collected strewn across his dressers and on the floor. His room is the opposite of his workshop, when it comes to his gun and work area, everything is put neatly in place and is impeccably clean. In his room it shows through only a little bit with his weapons rack, where each weapon is well cleaned and put up in a very specific place.

Username: Mort Faux
Real Name: Shasa Montaug
Pirate Name: Montaug Resplendante
Position: Chief Pilot
Age: 34
Race: Fellpool
Gender: Female
Before Piracy: Born one Phelleshasa Montaugalla, a distant member of the Antigian royal line, she was initially raised in the lap of luxury, one of many royal heirs in the endless game of intrigue that tends to plague royal lineage. Of course, this was relatively short lived for her, for despite the Underdeveloped Preservation Treaties, Galladrauva has always been subject to abductions and collections of the native kin there due to their unique qualities. Shasa was one of the few that managed to avoid 'harvesting', a process where Fellpool blood is drained and used for its distinctive properties, and ended up on the streets of a planet known as Calras, capitalistic to it's core where the merchant's reign and money is the only power. Still a young child at this time, lost and confused, it is here that Shasa's natural cunning and adaptability of her kind came into place. Language was little challenge, as abductions were not uncommon on Galladrauva and the tongue had spread, and when in dire need, her blood was a very valuable commodity. It took a number of years, but Shasa became a police investigator for the merchant caste, or in simple terms, a pirate hunter. The merchants, seeing as their power and influence is based in the goods they move, quite obviously despise pirates, and being an 'investigator', Shasa was charged with hunting them down and exterminating those who would steal their goods or otherwise hamper their actions.
Life on the Black Dawn: Now, raised initially as a child of royalty, and spending years working for those who live very similar lives behind their fleets of merchant ships, this can lead one to wonder why none of that wealth seems to come their way. With little more than an apartment and a strike craft to her name, Shasa decided it was her turn to make millions, by doing exactly as she had been doing with different targets. Suddenly, pirates were finding no targets, or shattered husks of trade ships where a lucrative haul may have been, and for nearly a month, no ship carrying goods made it to, or from, Calras. Of course, it didn't take long for her actions to become discovered, and Shasa soon found herself with frozen assets and the entire merchant force on her tail. After quite an extraordinary fight, Shasa found it in her best interest to put some serious distance between her and the merchants, and in an almost sick twist of fate, landed on a dock without a penny to her name and what was left of her craft barely worth it's weight in scrap. It was then that the captain of the Black Dawn, Feroca VI, came across her. Shasa never had any personal problems with pirates, hunting them had always been just work, but once word got out to the crew of who she'd been, well, most practitioners of repossession would know of her name; Montaug Resplendante, the pirate hunter. Or now, the merchant hunter, as she's proven her mettle at the helm, with enough nerve to the worst of dingys into Hell itself. Of course, the Black Dawn is no dingy, and Shasa has made good use of everything it has to offer. Still, there remains a dark secret, unbeknown to her and the crew, except perhaps the captain; the Black Dawn, under the captaincy of Feroca V, was the ship that abducted her and many others from her feudal home, so many years ago.
Personality: Shasa is, in short, a superiority complex. Raised with both the mentality of a competitive royal daughter and a servant of the merchants, in her eyes might, blood, and money are what truly matter. Pirates, merchants, and kings are all one and the same to her, others to be either subdued or defeated. In addition, coming from a feudal world, the universe outside her home she sees as a kind of dream, and as such has an oddly minimal regard for life, her own or those of others. Still, she does have a kind heart, though construed through odd beliefs, and holds a strong sense of honor; if she is going to one day become a queen, honor, duty, and loyalty are very important, and as such, she will follow captain Feroca to the ends of the universe and back.
Abilities: The Fellpool are 'harvested' because their blood and bodies have unique properties, still unexplainable by modern sciences. Their aging process is very slow, though this is not very unique, but it is their blood which holds their secrets. First, the blood of a Fellpool is completely invisible to those who are not of their race, undetectable by traces of heat, x-ray, or infrared, and coating something can as such render an object or person as invisible. Second, the blood of a Fellpool is highly capacitant, and can store large amounts of electricity without causing harm to the individual; coming from a feudal world, this is not generally known between them, but to their harvesters this, in addition to the invisibility, gives the blood of a fellpool high value, for many uses. Just because the blood is invisible does not mean it cannot be felt, whereas it is thicker than a human's blood and has higher surface tension, feeling more like mercury in slow motion. Because of this, the body of a Fellpool is very hardy, and can withstand a good deal of punishment, and can last some time without nitrogen, which is the primary gas required as opposed to oxygen.
Equipment: Stellarauva: A short sword held within a short cane of a sheath. The cane is titanium, as is the blade, and the cane in total is about three and a half feet in length. The blade, however, is held in a sheath sealed and full of her own blood, collected over months and years, and it coats the blade, leaving the sword hidden even as it is drawn; being a royal child of a feudal planet, she is well versed in the use of a blade, and the unique properties of her blood make it even more deadly.
Ortorae: A custom revolver holding seven rounds, the pirate's bane, hidden in her short coat.
Piecemaker: A flare gun, holstered at the small of Shasa's back. Normally loaded with a phosphor round, she has a few special flares she carries with her, all of which she simply calls her 'special surprises'.
Appearance: [- Montaug Resplendante -]
Relationships:
  • The Captain: The captain is... the captain. I will follow her until she proves she is not worthy of leadership, or I prove I am not worthy to be led. Still, a vote in her favor, as humans rarely seem to put value in those who appear young.
  • The First Mate: An interesting enough sort, if a little mundane. I think he'll turn into a fine human... whatever that means.
  • Chief Gunner: Childish, in a word. A man who tries to be everything at once, he lacks ambition or direction...
  • Navigator: The one crew member I work the most with... if he can stop attempting to be macho, he'll turn out well enough.
  • Chief Engineer: I think I like her, as we end up communicating often. She works fast whenever the engines or controls are acting up, and I like my systems neat and clean cut.
  • Ship Doctor: AVOID! I've no desire to be involved with anyone who works in blood, and only a medic of my kin could help me to begin with. So far, I've avoided all but passing contact, and I'd like it to stay that way.
  • Quartermaster: Perhaps the most reasonable male on the ship, and curiously enough, a swordsman. Certainly not the best, but there's promise.

Quarters: Shasa's quarters are very elegant, rivaling even that of the captains, though much smaller in size. Everything is a deep red satin, embroidered and accented in gold, every piece custom and draped and flared in an old, almost Victorian style. Or it would be, if each piece didn't share the same strange, alien symbol, akin to the algebraic pi with several accentations and flourishes under it, a symbol Shasa refuses to reveal the meaning of. The most remarkable thing in the main chamber, though, is the entire bow wall is a viewscreen, depicting a mountain-range seen from a castle balcony, the sky changing with the time of day, with black gold trimmed curtains over it; one would almost feel it was a real window, an opening to an ancient world. The opposing side holds her bath, just as resplendent and elegant as the main chamber, trimmed in the same dark satin and gold, a sink, a large mirror, and a bath, all matching.

Username: Mr. Eccentricity
Real Name: Gareth Vasquez
Pirate Name: Compas
Position: Navigator
Age: 19
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Before Piracy: Gareth’s father was a talented navigator for big-time corporation merchant ships. However, when his wife died giving birth to Gareth, the world meant nothing. He quit his job and fell into the love of alcohol, leaving Gareth alone with a sea of navigation books as companions. With those guides as his only friends, Gareth became self-taught in the ways of navigation and became a master at a young age due to the early exposure. Once he thought he was old enough to be able to live on his own, he ran away from the grip of his father, sick of the abuse and the stench of alcohol.
Life on the Black Dawn: Stowed away on a cargo ship, he overestimated his sneaking skills and was found quickly. They were going to hand him over to the police.
The Black Dawn had raided the ship he was on, and in the chaos of raid, Gareth made his way over to the Black Dawn and explained his situation. In a bizarre coincidence, the navigator of the Black Dawn had been killed in the skirmish, and Gareth eagerly took the chance to prove himself. In that chance, he found himself a new position, a new family, and a new life, though he is aware some do not approve of his young age. It has only been a week since he has come aboard the ship, and though he has avoided a fight so far, it is only a matter of time until something happens...
Personality: Short-tempered, impulsive, and rude, Gareth is never happy with anything, and it is a rare moment when he is not criticizing or complaining. If he gets a chance to, he will pick on someone, especially guys, just for being too girly. He does not do anything remotely associated with femininity, rarely smiles, and has no problem with stealing to get what he needs. If he is not your friend, he will put up a wall to keep you away. However, if you have managed to jump over it, he can be surprisingly sensitive.
Abilities: He has a very good sense of direction and orientation, is skilled with computers, and has the ability to piss off anyone.
Equipment: His main weapon is his mind. Of course, this by no means indicates that he won’t pull out his switchblade at the first chance he gets. It’s reflex, you see, after all those years with just his father, himself, and his trusty switchblade. How else did he get all those scars? He also has a pistol handy, but considering he barely knows how to fire the thing…
Appearance: [Gareth]
Relationships:
  • The Captain: I can't help but feel grateful that she accepted me as a Navigator. But I can't be too careful now. Even I wouldn't trust me if I was in her position, and she doesn't seem like the type to be easily won over...
  • The First Mate: I can't stand him, and he knows it, which is probably why he stays away from me. And that's just fine with me. It'll be easier now, and I don't have to see his face.
  • Chief Gunner: This guy always gets on my nerves with his joking and whatnot, but... I don't know. Something about him just keeps me from hating him...
  • Chief Pilot: Oh. Her. Can we not talk about it? If I didn't have to work with her so much, I wouldn't care, but as it is, I see her enough to not want to talk about her smug little attitude or her stupid face.
  • Chief Engineer: Yeah, she's all right. I mean, she's a lot like me, what can I say? No, I don't consider her a friend, who told you that rubbish? Besides, I have no friends. What would be the point of that?
  • Ship Doctor: Though I don't show it, she is all right with me. After all, she healed my wounds, and I wouldn't want to make an enemy out of a doctor, would I?
  • Quartermaster: His easy-going personality and friendliness has had me comfortable around him. But that just means I'm off guard, and I won't let this friendship nonsense get in the way of my goal.

Quarters: Gareth’s quarters, though only have been lived in for a week, is considerably messy. The bed, covered in clothes, is the first thing on the left. Clockwise from that is a bookshelf filled with books on navigation, electronics, and general logic. On the opposite wall from the door is his desk, which is covered in various electronics and papers of all sorts, leaving no empty surface. Finally, on the right wall is his closet, packed messily with his clothing, and a set of drawers, stuffed with overflowing clothes. On top of the drawers are more electronics scattered about in a mess. With such a messy room, anything could be hidden in here.

Real Name: Elisia Fletcher
Pirate Name: Fletch
Position: Chief Engineer
Age: 28
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Before Piracy: Elisia was sold into the black market when she was very young by her father to support his hefty drug addiction and alcoholism. She narrowly escaped a brothel, instead managing to land herself into a role as an engineer's assistant. There, she was used for menial tasks, like sweeping or sorting, and she was often beaten into near unconsciousness, her 'employer' being a temperamental man. He continued beating her, even though she quickly proved invaluable. Her small frame and small, deft fingers easily allowed her to do things her owner found difficult or even impossible, and he reached a noticeable level of fame throughout the black market for his shop's ship modifications and other assortments of things.

As she grew older, her hatred for him grew more scathing, especially through all of the beatings he continually rained down on her. Eventually at 16, sick of it, she replaced part of his motorbikes' engineering with faulty parts. The next time he turned it on, it exploded, and she escaped into obscurity.
Life on the Black Dawn: Fletch heard rumors through the contacts she had gathered after her escape that a powerful crew was being put together. The challenge intrigued her, and the idea of being a pirate sounded very enticing. So, stepping up her work a notch, she managed to snag the captain's attention, and got herself on board. Though she's annoyed most of the people, she prefers working on the ship greatly compared to anything else she ever did.

She mostly keeps to herself, perhaps going over her rather eccentric machine plans in her mind, but occasionally she likes to slip into the medical bay, armory, or perhaps the bridge, doing check-ups, or just studying the ship. She may even seek the captain out at times, asking questions about what can and can't be modified on the ship.
Personality: She's a smart-a** to her core, and doesn't care much about anyone other than herself. She likes to be self-sufficient and hates listening to people whine and complain, though she has the occasional events of generosity, though those are few and far in between. Her temper is short, and she can be a brutally cruel person, but that doesn't happen until pushed violently by someone first. Fond of the quote, "Sh*t happens." Protective of things that matter to her.
Abilities: Fletch is excellent with computers and machines, with the software or the actual 'flesh' of anything electronic. Used to crawling around in ships and such, she has become very flexible.
Equipment: One of her arms is mechanical, constructed by her entirely, after a mistake she made after escaping. It is precise, steady, and can pack a hell of a punch. Her other tool of choice is an omni-wrench, which does just about anything her arm can't. She is also decent with a gun.
Appearance: Fletch

Relationships: (Delete the character you're using from the list below)
  • The Captain: The Captain is to be respected, with reason. A woman in a man's place, doing it better than a man could have. Sounds good.
  • The First Mate: Couldn't really care either way. He's a good person. Doesn't get in the way, seems mildly helpful. Attractive, but not terribly so.
  • Chief Gunner: Something of an annoyance, but tolerable. His jokes can be humorous, but he's too playful.
  • Chief Pilot: Annoying to the point where interaction is a chore. I avoid her as much as possible. Her attitude sets my teeth on edge.
  • Navigator: He's interesting. Deserves respect for his skills. I'm glad he's not a degenerative idiot like some of the lesser crew members, but he's a little too cheerful to be sincere
  • Ship Doctor: She seems too uptight, too self-important. Annoying, but can fix up my engineers, so she's tolerable.
  • Quartermaster: Neutral. Not annoying. Does what he's supposed to.

Quarters: Fletch is usually too busy or too tired to keep her room very clean, but it's neat and organized, with few things strewn on the floor. It consists of a bed, a beanbag chair, and a large worktable which dominates the room. The worktable is cluttered with little gadgets and sketches of ideas. She's in the process of trying to get a screen put into the room for her ideas.

Username: Thaedrian
Real Name: Threnody Rossalind
Pirate Name: Libera (LY-br-ah)
Position: Ship’s Doctor
Age: Thirty-something; her Echo is fourteen.
Race: Human; host to an Echo
Gender: Ambiguously Female (Details below)
Before Piracy: Threnody was born curious. That was, in the end, the source of her greatest sorrow yet all of her joy, too. Her memories of the past are fragmented and nearly all but lost as her Echo gains greater control. Still, from what she can remember, she is happy to forget. She was born low in the caste system of the Dynastic Empire. She was unwanted. Somehow she survived childhood and managed to scrape together a living for herself. The chunks of lost memory grow larger the farther on the memories are. She knows she was alone on some planet, but how she got there is an unknown. She remembers meeting the aliens and accepting their child, promising to care for it and protect it. In return, the embryo would give her power and thus control over her life. At the time, this seemed more important than anything else. It was then, when the child had firmly attached itself her, that they revealed what would happen to her once the child had fully developed. Angry with them, she tried to remove the embryo from herself, cutting open her side where it rested. The pain was unbelievable. She felt her own pain and the child’s pain, recursive and overwhelming.
The next thing she remembered was staring down at her hands. A soft voice in the back of her mind whispered calming reassurances. So this was the embryo she carried... her Echo. The packet of flesh had been fully absorbed into her body during the space of time she had been unconscious though a deep scar was left from her panicked mutilation. Her initial horror at the realization of what had been done was gone. Whether it was the child or its parents that had brought about this change in perspective, she could not know. She only knew that the child was irrevocably tied to her. Should it die, so would she and vice versa. She would protect it, then, and see this deal through to the end.
The changes wrecked on her body have been numerous. At least, Threnody thinks they have. She barely remembers her past let alone her old appearance. Dark red veins can be seen running down her spine, extensions of the Echo's mind. When the Echo is agitated or otherwise highly emotional, the veins will pulse. When the Echo fully awoke and began its first stage of growth, it made changes to much of her body chemistry. She no longer sleeps every day, only once a month or so, and for only ten hours. Her blood has turned a pale blue. She deals badly with pain so once injured, she often shuts down, letting the Echo handle any needed ministrations. This state is a delicate one. Realizing this, the Echo made changes to heighten her reflexes. Her irises, presumably once a color normal for a human, are now pale blue (the color of her blood) and the sclera a dark red. Her pupils are highly irregular, being shaped by the Echo itself. Or hisself, as he has decided, which brings around the point of her gender. As her Echo grows, so does its control. As he shapes her body to his liking, and occasionally her advantage, there are some changes that come about simply because he is a he. Threnody, realizing that she had no say in the matter, simply gritted her teeth. She still identifies herself as female, regardless of physical changes, much to her Echo's growing amusement.
Her new name simply seemed a prudent change. Though doubtful, it would not do for any searchers to become aware of her continuing existence. Libera’s current occupation, which mostly consists of cleaning up bloody messes of wounds, was a whim of the Echo who decided it would be interesting to see how damaged a specimen must be in order to be beyond his repair. His ability to infect patient’s blood with spores (a sort of extension of his self) allows him to ascertain the extent of the injury and how the flesh should be. After that, it is merely a matter of deciding which tools at hand would be best for completing the task. For fourteen years of nearly sleepless existence, Libera has not been idle for a moment. Even when the body rests, the mind is awake and learning. This has resulted in a vast accumulation of almost random knowledge. For in this, Echo and human have found a common weakness: Curiosity.
Life on the Black Dawn: Libera had set up shop, as it were, in a not-so-reputable area and had been doing steady (if slightly illegal) business with the locals when she came face to face with the infamous Captain Feroca. Not that Libera had any idea who she was at the time. Upon seeing the woman, she assumed she was here for the same reason any individual visited the odd doctor. When the captain was finally able to interrupt the barrage of questions pertaining to the erroneous illness, Libera was taken back by her offer. Work on a pirate ship? There certainly would be a lot of work… and all kinds of illness, disease and wounds to take care of. It would be dangerous, however, and she was about to turn the captain down when her Echo forced her aside (figuratively) and agreed much to Libera’s consternation. Well, there was no turning back after that…
After a few weeks on ship, Libera had trained a skilled team of underlings to assist her in any surgical feats as well as to take care of more mundane duties. It was common knowledge at this point that the doctor rarely slept and could be found at any time checking on any patients in sick bay, recording stock, or even simply reading at one place or another in the ship.
Personality: Libera is, for the most part, an impassive personage. She controls her emotions with the help of her Echo who subdues the chemical reactions. This has resulted in the appearance of being indifferent to any circumstance Libera might find herself in. Her Echo can be impulsive, but as yet she has the presence, and the will, to curb most of his impulsive actions before he acts on them. The impulses are all born out of the same basic drive: to know. That seems to be the Echo's single goal in existence: To learn everything, no matter how insignificant the knowledge. This causes more problems than one might initially think. So perhaps the answer is that Libera doesn't have much of a personality. She is polite and bland, with the exception of those times when she is unable to stifle the impulses of her Echo. The fact that these instances are increasing in number and frequency has not escaped either one's notice.
Abilities: Enhanced sight, reflexes, strength (limited). The use of ‘spores’ to gather information directly from any organic life form about the make-up of that particular specimen. Lasts only a few hours before dissolving.
Equipment: Libera, or more specifically, her Echo, is abjectly terrified of pain. In and of itself, the sensation is tolerable but the nature of their symbiotic/parasitic relationship causes the experiences of one to be relayed to the other. In the instance of pain, it is a recursive process. It is a sort of echo effect (hence the name) but instead of losing strength with each rebound it grows stronger. The one experience of this (see: accepting the embryo) was enough to convince both sides that steps needed to be taken to prevent such a thing from ever happening. So Libera learned to handle an assortment of weaponry. Being somewhat fickle, the Echo passed from gun to blade to sonic repulse to a short study of hand-to-hand combat. Eventually Libera settled on carrying several concealed blades (which occasionally doubled as surgery tools) and a small scattershot gun.
Appearance: Libera
Relationships:
  • The Captain: Upon first meeting the infamous Captain Feroca, Libera had no idea who she was dealing with. Very embarrassing. And now? Well, Libera is more often bemused by rather than in awe of her Captain. Still, she respects the tenuous position Feroca holds with poise and grace.
  • The First Mate: One of her more frequent visitors out of the senior officers, Libera is familar with Tobias, if not exactly friendly.
  • Chief Gunner: ‘Frustrating’ and ‘Idiot’ are the words that most often occur to Libera upon seeing Allister. His sense of humor is hardly amusing to her though Libera will (grudgingly) admit he has his merits as well.
  • Chief Pilot: Libera is anticipating the day when Montaug finds herself injuered to the point of requiring a visit to the sick bay. not out of any sadistic intent but out of nearly overwhelming curiosity. So far the wily pilot has managed to ellude her much to both Libera's and her Echo's consternation.
  • Navigator: When Libera first met Gareth, she was surprised at his age. Later, when in passing comment Gareth tried to insult her by calling her ‘girly’, Libera cheerfully thanked him thereby utterly confusing the boy. Their interactions thereon have been brief.
  • Chief Engineer: Fletch is often welcome in the medical bay though occasionally Libera will toss her out if inundated with patients if she doesn’t simply draft Fletch to help with her work.
  • Quartermaster: Libera hasn’t had much interaction with Gash. She finds him competent in his work and a good patient. High praise from an irritable doctor!

Quarters: libera's room, for all that is is roughly twice the size of any of the other senior crew's rooms, is a touch crowded. From floor to ceiling are stacked data cubes, charts, archaic books made of anything from vellum to plant mulch pressed and dried and all manner of instruments, some of a surgical intent though most not. Crammed into the corner is a small though comfortable bed. Beside it is a plush armchair that was salvaged from a victim ship by the good doctor. The room itself is well-lit, the walls themselves glowing from the chemical concoction Libera coated them with. From the ceiling she has hung all manner of curious objects she has picked up in her travels. Libera is a bit of a pack-rat.

Username: Metal-Ridley
Real Name: Ziek Stryker
Pirate Name: Gash
Position: Quartermaster
Age: 27
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Before Piracy: Ziek was born into a family of bounty hunters; both his father and mother were into the hunting business. The first part of his life was spent being raised half the time by his parents, the other half by his father’s parents until Ziek was old enough to follow the couple when they travelled the galaxy for work; it’s only then that Stryker’s father began teaching the young one how to wield and use various weapons (mostly blades and handguns), preparing his child for a future career that seemed to have already been set for him.
When Ziek turned 18, his old folks retired from the bounty hunting business and Ziek started his solo career from there. With his father’s training and the tough jobs he picked, the young Stryker eventually got stronger and made a name for himself: he wasn’t the best, far from it, but his name was getting a good reputation and not only because of the family he came from.
One fateful day, after another mission successfully done, the soon-to-be Gash was approached by a stranger. The stranger offered Ziek riches, more than what he was doing with his lowly bounty hunting work. Not only did he offer riches, but a fearsome reputation as well, and maybe even more; all that, if Ziek accepted to join Captain Feroca and the Black Dawn’s crew. The riches and reputation didn’t really interest Ziek that much, but seeing as it had been about five years since going solo, he was getting tired of being on his own. Stryker signed up and got recruited to replace a fallen mate. He was now a pirate under Captain Feroca, the one previous to Josie Valen.
When the previous Captain Feroca announced his retirement, Gash took part into the competition to be the next top man aboard. He was very confident: his time spent with the pirates taught him a lot and not only did he gain more experience, but he also got to use heavier weapons. Ziek felt like his chance to finally truly shine had arrived... Until he faced Josie, the current captain, in the final fight. The fight was good, but Ziek was defeated by the mysterious woman, partly due to his overconfidence in his skills and physical strength but also because the woman was definitively stronger than he was. Gash, like the other pirates, was sent away and the bounty hunting business started again.
Life on the Black Dawn: Not too long after leaving the Black Dawn, Ziek was approached by the new Feroca and asked if he was interested in joining the new crew. The bounty hunter wondered why, seeing as he did have some sort of grudge against the woman who stole... or rather earned the chance to be the next captain; maybe it was because he did give her a good impression during that last brawl, even if she was obviously superior to him. Stryker swallowed his pride and decided to join once more, hoping he would enjoy a good pirate’s life like he used to and maybe, just maybe, he would get a second shot at being Captain later.
Since his second recruiting, Ziek’s grudge against Feroca seemed to have disappeared and changed more into respect. Being appointed to be the Quartermaster, he had no choice but to respect his new captain anyway. Since he’s been working to prove himself worthy of the crew once more, Gash hasn’t been interacting too much with the new crew and instead has been giving a lot of time to his tasks. Whenever he has a break, he usually enjoys a quiet moment on his own, but so far he does seem to get along well with most people given his laid-back personality.
Personality: Ziek is a rather laid-back and relaxed fellow. He doesn’t tend to be stressed out with anything, except when the situation is critical. He is quite friendly, but mostly when people come to him; he doesn’t go to people that often as he likes the quiet as much as good company. Although Gash is pretty laid-back, he takes pride in what he does and likes to do it properly; it's basically the only thing he seems to stress about(except critical situations, as mentioned already).
Abilities: Slightly more physically strong and enduring than a normal human due to his work-out and some cheap bionics he got when he was younger. Good with heavy weapons and close-combat, but that’s about it. No big super-human abilities or anything.
Equipment: Various heavy weapons, but most of the time Gash uses his trusted (and favourite) minigun. Gash also often uses his old set of weapons, consisting of two swords, one shotgun and one handgun.
Relationships:
  • The Captain: Captain Feroca… She’s actually the second Feroca I’ve had to serve. Quite frankly, when I compare her to her predecessor, she has much to prove to the crew and herself still, but she hasn’t been around nearly as long as the previous captain. Although I disliked her not too long ago, I have to admit she’ll most likely be a great leader and a great Feroca. She appears to be a strong woman and she seems to care a lot for us, her crew. She deserves to be the top woman on the ship, and I am happy and honoured to be back on the Black Dawn under her command. I only hope that the fact that I might know a little more about her past than the others won't make things sour between her and me; I don't intend on revealing anything, but I would understand her distrust.
  • The First Mate: Despite the serious attitude this guy can have, I think he can still take and make a joke or two. He does have a sense of humour; I just couldn’t say exactly what his type of humour is, though. I’m not sure if I could say he and I would be good pals, but I’m pretty sure we can get along just fine.
  • Chief Gunner: Let’s not hide it: everybody knows Allister’s a goof and a flirt and he’s not hiding it from anyone, but he’s still a great guy. Even though he loves to steal my chocolate (I’ll get him for it one day), we get along great, and I do consider him to be a good friend.
  • Chief Pilot: Ah… Princess! I can’t help but to be slightly amused when she gets that superiority complex thing going. It usually makes me give her a little nickname too: Princess, most of the time. Aside from her superiority thing, I’ll admit that I do like interacting with her. She’s pretty smart and well-mannered from what little I’ve seen from her. I just have to be careful with that sword of hers: I hear she likes to wave it around when she's upset…
  • Navigator: Since he’s only been around for a really short time, I can’t say I know too much about the kid. He looks like he’s a bit nervous, but I suppose it’s normal for him: he’s pretty young and the newest crew member. I’m sure he’ll relax and open up eventually, if not… Well, too bad, I guess.
  • Chief Engineer: Fletch is one of the people I probably have to interact with the most due to our jobs, so getting on her bad side is to avoid. I know she’s a little toughie with a short temper, and with that ratchet of hers, she could do massive damage to one’s skull. That smart-a** attitude of hers could make communicating a little difficult sometimes, but two can play at that game so I don’t really mind. Maybe if I’d get to chat with her more about stuff unrelated to ordering parts and tools, I’d have a better idea of how good (or bad) we could get along.
  • Ship Doctor: Doc... Eh. As grateful as I could be for all the patching up she does, I can’t help but to feel uncomfortable around her. It’s not because she seems indifferent to everything, although that doesn’t help, but simply the fact that she looks rather innocent but before you know it, you could be on your knees feeling numb. A doctor surely knows a body’s weak points, so I’d rather not be on her bad side. Libra doesn’t look like she’d just do it right there for fun and she doesn’t seem to dislike me at all, but what do I know eh? I have no freaking clue on what’s going in that head of hers. I hear she goes on rampages som

Current Ship Location

The Black Dawn is docked at the spaceport 'Last Edge'. It rests literally on the very edge of the Milky Way and tends to be the spot anyone on the run from Pirates, Dynasts or Bounty Hunters flees to due to its remoteness. It also makes it a very wealthy station and the perfect place to stop off for supplies before an expedition into the void.

The ship has been at berth for six days. In one more day the last of the supplies will be loaded and the ship will set off into the Void. The crew have been on shore-leave all that time (Except for those in charge of cargo -- the first officer included) who have only got time off when the dockworkers have headed off.

Major Locations

Last Edge

An ancient planetoid long since dead, no one quite knows who built the ruins that the old spaceport is built upon. The ancient black stone forms a spiderweb-like latice through the almost completely hollow core of the planetoid with ancient metal laced through it, glowing with otherworldly energy. The thin surface (only in comparison to 'normal' solid planets) of the planetoid is utterly lifeless and could be mistaken for an extremely large asteroid if it were not for the regular orbit around a dying star.

The actual station itself came into being over a hundred years ago and has been expanding steadily since until the entire inside of the planet has been converted over to massive spacedocks big enough to outfit ships-of-the-line as well as many places for a person with coin to fritter it away on any excess their mind can comprehend. It is the last refuge for all, so those looking for the most extreme distractions and pursuits can be sure to find it in the most lawless part of the galaxy.

The station is divided up into various districts which are divided according to how deep into the planet one goes. Just below the surface, reached through massive hatches, are the docks. There hundreds of men, women and other genders work to load/offload, repair, maintain and build spaceships for paying clients. The work is hard, painful and often short-lived, but it pays well and sometimes it's possible to catch the eye of a captain and get out of the quick and unpleasant life as an Engineer on the Last Edge.

Beneath the docks is the main district where all the various gathering places, stores and warehouses can be found. It is where deals are struck, money changes hand and frequent gun battles erupt on the streets. It is not a place to enter unprepared.

Near the centre of the planet, below the thousands of feet of warehousing, facotries, bars, clubs and restautrants is the seediest district of Last Edge. Known as 'The Flesh Pit', it is where one can have any of their darkest desires filled. Clubs that cater to more 'exotic' tastes can be found here as well as fighting arenas, slave pens and all the best narcotics.

To say the permanent residents of the Last Edge are morbid is an understatement. Living in a dead system inside a dead planetoid built upon the dead ruins of a long lost civilisation tends to bring a darker cast to their outlook on life. They accept that their home and their lives are dedicated to fulfilling the wants and desires of some of the most vile and psychotic people in the galaxy. It does not bother them, whether they work in the bars, the stores, the docks or even seedier places. Many who come to Last Edge never leave it, except for mercenaries and pirates who dock there on occasion -- eventually every newcomer takes on the morbid and semi-suicidal edge of all Last Edgers.

The broth bubbled softly in front of her, the smell of spices and herbs mouth-watering. She picked up one of the pieces of meat swirling in the boiling mixture, holding it expertly in her chopsticks before popping it into her mouth. A small satisfied smile touched her lips as she sunk her teeth into the food, nodding in approval to herself. Placing the sticks down carefully, she picked up a small mug, holding the bottom with her hand and holding the side carefully with the other. She drank deeply, savouring the flavours of the tea before placing the mug down and returning to eating meat from the broth as well as vegetables and rice. It had taken her quite by surprise when she found a traditional Dynastic restaurant. Apparently quite a few outcasts had made their way to Last Edge and the demand for traditional cuisine had grown and grown. It was expensive – since the Dynastic Empire was very far away even by hyperspace – but the food was excellent and the price made it rather exclusive, something the captain of the Black Dawn liked.

Music played softly in the red and gold restaurant, a stark contrast to the usual blaring and discordant music that buzzed around the vast majority of the commercial district of the spaceport. Josie was sure that her crew were enjoying that sort of thing – there were plenty of drink, games and flesh to be had even up in the fairly sane and normal parts of this dead planetoid. She wondered briefly if any of her crew had visited the infamous bowels of the hollow world, sating their darker tastes. The Flesh Pit held no interest to her, she saw no reason to fight pointless battles, narcotics did not interest her – and would not work anyway – and she had no unusual fetishes to indulge. If she wanted a warm body then she would get a normal one, but she had no real desire for such a thing so she was happy to spend her week off exploring the various mercantile districts and enjoying different meals. She had already acquired a few books and other knickknacks that had taken her fancy. A pleasant surprise was to find members of the same species that had created her nanomachines. It had taken a couple of days to get through their henchmen and toadies, but she eventually managed to get a meeting with them. They had spoken and quickly came to an agreement. She had come to this restaurant to accept the outcome of their agreement.

A waiter materialised to refill her tea, asking her if she wished for anything stronger. She asked for some wine to be delivered before resuming her meal. Smiling in appreciation as a fresh bottle of her favourite brand was brought to her table. She took the freshly poured glass and sipped it in appreciation, savouring the rich red liquid.

Feroca had just finished her meal when an uncomfortable looking human turned up, looking around as if his slightly unkempt appearance was an executable offence in such a sumptuous atmosphere. She observed him from the balcony above, watching as he made his way across the main floor and up the dark wooden steps. Looking up as he approached, she smiled softly and gestured to a low cushioned stool before her.

The man sat down, placing a small greenish blue cylinder down in front of him. “My employers said I was to give you this, in exchange.”

Still smiling, she reached into her boot and pulled out a small black box. “And this is the mineral I agreed to exchange.” He reached out, but quickly withdrew when she shook her head, her black hair swaying slightly. “Give me the new procedures first.”

Nodding, the human ran a sweaty hand through his black hair before taking the cylinder and twisting it, the metal reacting by itself as it changed shape – one end turning into a pair of needles. “It should take five minutes or so to complete the upgrade.”

“Do it then.” She removed one of her long gloves, holding out her bare arm to him. “I’ve had these before so don’t worry about me.”

“Okay,” said the man, pushing the needles into a vein in the crook of her arm. Pulling the cylinder free, he twisted it again and placed it down as it returned to a plane shape once more.

Josie pulled her glove back on, rubbing at the itchy puncture wound as her machines sealed it up. “When I’m sure it’s working then you can have the payment.”

He sighed. “Very well.”

She gestured to a waiter to hand her companion a glass. “Have some wine. It’ll take the edge off.” Josie raised her own glass, taking another sip. Her gold eyes glittered slightly as she looked over the rim of the glass at him. “Not used to such fancy places?”

The man laughed a little nervously. “Normally my employer’s clients are of the xenos kind.”

“Yes. I know it is rare for humans to use their technology.”

Shuffling a little, he looked at the chrono on his wrist. “I must leave in five minutes.”

The captain nodded, looking up and suddenly smiling. “You can leave. I have just established connection with my ship… and a few unsecured ships.” She grinned. “This is excellent. All of the computers at my fingertips.” Looking down, she placed the box on the table. “Tell your employers that I thank them for their services. I hope we can make more deals in the future.”

Nodding, he took her box and half-sprinted out of the restaurant.

Chuckling to herself, Josie returned to finishing off her meal, wondering what fun she could have now that she could access computer systems anywhere without the need for a handheld computer. It would be very useful indeed. Now if only she could find a way to create a shield using her nanomachines, then she would be able to drop all reliance on external technology to protect her. She shrugged lightly to herself, it could wait.

After tying off the last series of stiches, Libera covered the marks with a soft linen bandage, taping it in place over the wounds. Bitemarks, of all things, and from three different mouths, judging by the teeth patterns. Libera choose not to question it. Nodding in response to the quiet thanks, she moved on to her next patient. After a few moments spent examing the patient, she sighed and shook her head.

"It isn't a sickness, you're pregnant."

He was suitably dumbfounded by the news. Pulling a vial out of her bag, she filled a needle full of the gray-green liquid as the man sounded out his confusion. Ignoring his protests, she forcibly took his arm and injected the drug straight into his auxillary artery.

"In a few moments, the purging process will begin. The nurse will show you to the bathroom so you may eject your young in peace."

Libera was rather pleased with business so far. Rather than ask for cred, she had arranged a simple transaction process. For the pregnant man, she would collect the unhatched eggs. Another client had filled a vial full of venom. A third had left a few scales. Useless, perhaps, but rather pretty. After the waiting room had emptied and the last of her patients left (a woman with an odd skin disease that had turned out to be an allergic reaction to a client of hers), Libera released the few remaining staff to whatever pursuits they desired and wandered off into the bowels of the Last Edge.

Her charity work had taken up most of the day but had been productive none the less. Here at the end of civilization came to rest all manner of oddities. Where else could one like her walk through a crowd without note? There had been a time when Libera had thought of her appearance as undoubtedly strange. Later she decided that she could be odder looking. As she descended into the underground, her opinion changed again. Really, all being fair and equal, the whole of sentience was a bit strange looking. Well enough. She enjoyed losing herself in a crowd now and then. And this certainly was a crowd.

Libera passed fighting dens, whore houses, and many more questionable shops before reaching her destination. Down here, no questions would ever be asked; for the right amount of money, of course. This particular cesspit had been highly recommended by a patient. Perhaps it was curiousity. Maybe she was simply feeling little desperate. Then again, it might just have been the fact that she was going to be stuck on the Black Dawn for a very long time. Regardles of the reason, she found herself looking down at a rather attractive older man. She had already checked for any diseases of parasites. He was living up to her expectations so far. Suddenly she was hit by a sense of.. Déjà vu, wasn't it? Some other world, another man with eyes the color of the sky, when she had been another person completely.

"Did you know that when you stare into the Aybss, the Abyss stares back?"
"Good to know, love. Now did you buy the night to talk or what?"

Libera considered the question for a moment before smiling and dropping her overcoat to the floor.

"Or what."
"Good answer."

Tobias sighed with relief as he dropped the box into a open location. The thing had to weigh a good 150 pounds. His muscles felt strained after having been moving boxes all week, and were sore. Sweat beaded then dripped of his forehead and down his back. He pulled off his shirt that was sticking to his back revealing a light, but built frame. The ships air was stagnant from not having the full running functions of life support up, making it rather warm inside the ship. With the suns light beating down on it, the outside of the hall heated up.

The lack of sunlight had lone since removed what little tan he had, and made his skin pale. He tucked his off-white shirt into his back pants pocket and leaned against the hull of the ship. Coolness tingles along his skin and spine. Standing up again, Tobias walked around the bay watching the rest of the Edges cargo crew leave.

While most of the ships crew got to go out and have fun on the spaceport,
Tobias was stuck on ship dealing with all the cargo concerns. Making sure the Lost Edge crew did their jobs right, didn’t steal, and didn’t wander around the ship. It wasn’t good for business having people looking around your ship and all when you’re a pirate.

“So um, Mr. Rahl?”

Tobias looked up jarred from his thoughts; the beady short, but muscular man eyed him over with greedy eyes.

“We’re finished with this bay, about to finish loading the next one.” The man paused a second, as if he was choosing his words very carefully.

“The name Rahl, that’s not very common now, is it?”

“No, I don’t suppose it is.” Tobias replied back somewhat aware of the conversation, though he was tired, and not in the mood to chat. Even more so not in the mood to chat with one of the Lost Edge lowest form of society.

“Any relation to the ole Rahl family?” the deep voice sounded back carrying with it hints of whiskey.

“None.” Tobias responded. A small pang of hurt filled him for a second, but he shrugged it away.

“Ah, well me and the other boys where wondering if you might as kind to leave a tip?” Tobias raised an eyebrow at the man, and stopped leaning. The man came to about his shoulders, and Tobias could see a bald spot appearing.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a digital pad. Tapping the screen a few times brought up a roster of payments, and the schedules amount of time the cargo load was to take place and complete. The cargo team was least 6 hours behind. Normally, this delay wouldn’t have bothered Tobias, but being that he was stuck on the ship it was completed, it had started to annoy him. Not to mention, that he had to help as well. Other crews in the past had been way more efficient.
Brushing a hand through his hair he eyed over the man once more.

“Now listen here you scallywag, I will not be tipping you. In fact if anything, I should keelhaul you for delay. You were supposed to be done over 6 hours ago. Now getting to the other bay, and finish up before I go your boss, and tell him I’m going to dock the pay for every hour you’re late.” Not even waiting for a reply Tobias left into the ship. The Cargo crews were forbidden from entering into the main ships hulls.

“Looks like I wont be getting to a chance to hit the book stores this time.” He sighed.

The bar was seedy at best but he had been in worse, in fact he had bartended at worse so he felt right at home. Allister was pulling out all the stops, attempting to get a little attention from the female variety, and he wasn’t picky either. As long as it was distinguishable as female and didn’t have any dangling parts, the gunner was fine, plus almost none of the women he worked with on the ship seemed to want anything to do with him. Robbie just couldn’t understand why, he was a likable guy with a good sense of humor, what more could they possibly want.

“Hey baby, mind if a buy you a drink?” He said in his smooth tone, always good for picking up the ladies. However, all he got in response was the contents of the woman’s glass down his chest and a glare. For a moment he just stood there, looking down at his now stained shirt, “Great, you try to be nice and look what happens.” It had been the first drink poured on him that night but it was certainly not the first time it had ever happened. Now he couldn’t pick up chicks looking dirty and disheveled and he didn’t want to risk getting slapped in the face again, three times was enough for one night, so he only had a few choices.

Dejected and defeated, Allister had exited the bar and wondered down the byways, staring at all the potential women that passed by. He took his defeat in stride, reasoning that the women in that bar simply didn’t know what they were missing. In fact, he spotted a woman that seemed to be checking him out from across the way and he smirked at her. The come hither look in her eyes was all the encouragement that Allister needed and before long he had followed her back to her place.

“You know, it’s not too safe to let strange men into your place,” He teased the girl, trying for idle chat. She didn’t seem like much a talker, not that it bothered Allister much, he could do the talking for both of them if it was needed.

“I’m fairly sure I can handle myself,” She offered out with a coy smile, before leading him into her flat.

Within moments, Allister was running out of there as fast as he could, his shirt flung over his shoulder and his hair flowing out behind him. He was sure the woman, who had failed to tell him about some extra appendages, would not follow him but he may have just been running to escape the images. He reached the ship before too long, feeling as though it was the safest place to be at the moment. His breathing was heavy and his face was red, Allister was bent over trying to catch his breath and he barely noticed Tobias minding the men loading cargo onto the ship.
