Well, this year's Christmas event is up and running, and take a look at what I just stumbled upon.
Not sure if any of the others have posted threads, though. I'll have to look into that.

I always think it's fun when they have NPCs post during the events. It makes it seem more interactive even if it isn't.
And there seem to be new NPCs this year, Nippers and Turkey. Interesting...

They're trying... but these newer interactive NPCs just seem really hollow to me. Like they just popped into existence and have no past or future, merely existing to chat with people during the event. A few of the ghosts were interesting, but they never went anywhere. These elves are cute but they feel even more shallow than the ghosts.
Or maybe I'm just being too cynical... neutral

Most of the NPCs they've had recently haven't had a past. They've been created to make events work. As they chat, you find out more about them, but it's not like the events of the past where you hear about the NPCs through event updates or manga.
I'm entertained by them and I like the fact that they'll randomly post in threads. It makes it feel like they're trying to be inclusive.
