I am an archie at Carnegie Mellon, which means that my weekends are the most busy. Weekdays are my free time. In any case, I wished to share what I have been slaving over for this weekend. We have been tasked to design a cube-dwelling, and then place it into a site, making certain that it conforms to a lengthy set of rules pertaining to the client and her habits, making certain all the while that we maintain orthographic moves. The site is 80x80', and the cube is 20x20'. Previously, the site was a hedge farm, so it is entirely covered in 8' tall hedges. We are allowed to remove hedge, but not to shorten it. Here are the plan views of my four final designs, and a perspective view so the the site may be better understood. http://predictions-of-the-future.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=10432980@Contrabass: Lady, Neptune, Priestess, whichever pleases you. Yes, I find waffles to be enjoyable.

It's a very interesting design Neptune. Why did you decide to fill the majority of the space with hedges, as opposed to using them to accentuate the yard?
Me - most of my business is explained in my profile, but the short version is I'm a writer/ actor/ director about to graduate from an Austin University. I like things. Don't we all? cheese_whine Though recently a sudden inspiration has me intrigued in video game design, specifically for the concept that I have in mind. When I think of a piece, written or otherwise, I want to pursue it in the venue that best compliments the work. For Michael Briggs, the venue is definitely interactive, digital media.

My design was created to follow the program which we were all given:
"Arising only when its light enough to read the dial of her clock, her morning routine is one of introspective repose. Thought and writing ensue in the quiescence of the morning hours. This activity continues in either the dwelling or the garden. Her thoughts and writing flow unbroken until early afternoon at which time she receives guests for lunch and conversation. She always invites guests, colleagues and students in pairs because she prefers setting up oppositions whose conversations she can then mediate.
The afternoon is devoted to short, outdoor lectures she delivers weekly to a small audience. When not lecturing or meeting guests, she enjoys a contemplative stroll in the garden. At the end of each day, she returns to introspection by viewing the setting sun."
Other rules include maintaining an orthogonal site, and using the programmatic cues of the structure (which we had already designed, based upon three planes which designed prior to that) to influence the site.
Our goals were to create spaces and spatial interaction, and to follow the program above. I chose to include goals of my own, which include the concepts of transparency and permeability, and of duality (which references the program).

Intriguing. I understand the the perspective rendering is a general concept of the space, but it would be very interesting to see the property's gardens in full detail. Are you a student at the D.C. or Pittsburgh Campus? I visited the Pittsburgh Campus and I was very inspired by the architecture. I don't know what D.C.'s is like, but I'd hope they'd put their architecture students at the most structurally intricate campus.

I am intending to create an art piece in De Stijl, likely pastel, of the plan view during the holiday. It is unlikely that I will put Rhino through its paces to create a more photorealistic rendering than the quickies I posted, nor do I intend to create a paraline or perspective in watercolour or other medium, so you shall have to employ your imagination. Alas.
I am a student at the Pittsburgh campus. Indeed, the architecture is interesting, but it would likely be of little surprise to you to learn that the SoArch has had very mixed opinions of the most recent structures. However, that might be a result of not being on-campus during Hornbostel's time, and rather during the contemporary age (I shall not make any modernist jokes here).
When you state that you are a writer, do you mean specifically scripts/plays, and in your professional capacity?

Not at all. Regarding my writing, I work in both poetry and prose, as well as mixing the two, and screenplays/ scripts are only my most recent interaction with literature. As far as professional capacity, if you mean that I have a degree in literature, no, I do not. I do feel that my writing has its merit, however, and I have been published a couple of times in small community arts journals.

It is a shame that prosody is already a word, else I would use it to describe a mix of poetry and prose. How does one create such a mixture? I congratulate you for being published locally. I personally have little desire to be a published author, unless I were to receive sufficient emolument for the effort. As an unrelated note, I was browsing for leadholders, and came across a very nice Rotring, the Rotring 600 (2mm). Alas, it costs 50 USD, so it is a luxury that I cannot currently afford. I desire one with much passion.

Zounds! That's rather expensive. I don't rightly know what a rotring is, but judging from its appearance I'm guessing it's an exceptional drafting pencil?
And the mix of prose/ poetry as I do it varies. Most recently, it was prose in meter with an occasional slant rhyme, visually intensive to use word-sentence structure as part of the narrative media. Maybe that's just prose, but for me, it fills a distinctive space between the two.
Y'like Limericks?

Yes, it does tend towards the "top-of-the-line" when considering contemporary drafting leadholders. However, it is an all-metal brushed aluminum construct, with a lead hardness indicator window, lead pointer end cap, lengthy knurled metal grip, hexagonal case, 2mm lead, and a fixed-sleeve. And it comes in black.
Rotring is the brand - they were recently (1998, I think) bought by Sanford.
Ah, so a sort of homage to literature in the style of the Canterbury Tales? Fascinating.
I enjoy and dislike many things. Limericks vary. For what reason do you enquire?

I have returned. Although I have been away longer than I had predicted, I am now (mostly) recuperated. It is a wonderful thing to be able to sleep for 16 or 18 hours every night.
