Wouldn't it be cool to have a Suikoden online? Suikoden already had a huge story from 1-4 already and i am pretty sure i would love to go from Tinto to Le Buque to the islands ^^. We can make our own characters look like the characters we love to use in the Suikoden series *drools*. Picture in your mind a Character that looks like Luc or even Hugo blaugh

I don't know i think it is a good idea... but now that i think about it my friends and cousin don't really know much about Suikoden... so i guess until the word gets spread more then suikoden wouldn't be well known like Final Fantast is.

Especially with their splendid attempt at the tactical realm with Suikoden Rapsodia. I can see it working.

I'm pretty much against a Suikoden MMORPG due to the fact that the 108 stars system would be impossible to implement, unless there exists a guild option. Even so, I'm not quite sure how it will differ from normal hack-and-slash MMORPGs that I've seen.

So...no.

I agree. A suikoden MMORPG would be near immpossible.

Actually, I think a MMORPG set in the Suikoden world would be very interesting. The 108 stars from other games could appear as NPCs and maybe as a player your character could even join different armys as a foot soldier in various skirmishes and conflicts.

I just wouldn't want to see the game developers try to pass it off as Suikoden VI. It would have to be a seperate Suikoden game from the main series because I do think it would be pretty hard to fit it into the official Suikoden canon, however it would be a great chance to sort of experiance the Suikoden universe with thousands of other players in a community based setting.

I think it would be very possible. First have them be NPC's. Instead of having them join you, they just become friends that can give you quests and maybe sell items different from what other NPC's sell. It would give the game an easy way to introduce quests. Especially since to get them as a friend you'd probably have to do a couple quests.

yea just make a lot of the characters play a role in the story... like Lucia for example can be what she is in both 2 and 3(chief) we can get access to her only when we have finished quests and we can continue to get quest from her. Those who consider taking the Grasslands and the Karaya clan as there starting point can get quest from the chiefs of the grassland clan. and you can advance the views of the grasslands the further you advance in there story

and there are a lot of true runes we haven't seen yet. of all the runes
a few of the runes can show themselves in the current suikoden world and a war may soon break out of the Northlands to the Toran Republic to the Zexans and the the Tinto Republic. someway somehow the islands get involved with the war and new places we couldn't have gone to is now accessible in the MMORPG.

while fighting the monsters we encounter(real time) the runes act like there attacks in the suikoden series. fire can harm your allies if they don't move far enough. water can heal your partners that you play with lightning is really strong on a foe and the like(except for true runes)

other quest that don't involve a high ranking person means you can be reward with armor/runes/medicines or many items where you can put in your "castle"(painting, vases etc) where it can enhance your attacks or it can enhance your rune spells to a certain degree

i am not sure if i am making sense at all but this is all i can think of as of now that a suikoden MMORPG might work..... but that means breaking the 108 stars of destiny suikoden for 1 is known for...

General idea: It would be great if they differentiate True Rune wielders from regular rune wielders (I.E. Less damage, better stat, immunity to status effect, etc.)

Ehhhh....

In my opinion, no ordinary player should EVER hold a True Rune, or it'll be pure insanity. There are only 27 True Runes to around after all, and if anyone can wield a True Rune, we'll be seeing every single Tom, d**k and Harry having the Rune of Punishment or the True Wind Rune. If it ever comes to that, I'll just press that cute little 'quit' button there on the screen.

The reason why we're having so many Suikoden games is so that Konami can space out the appearance of the True Runes. If the MMORPG showcases more True Runes that it known, it might bring the Playstation Suikoden games to a quicker end, which definitely is not the way we want to go.

I'm assuming here that the Suikoden creators actually have a general storyboard for all the games already, so the history of the entire Suikoden world is pretty much already planned out. Unless there are minor skirmishes throughout the lapses between the games in which the game can be set, it would be highly unlikely that the game will be set in the middle of a war.

Besides, a war between the Nameless Lands/Harmonia (since they're in the North, I believe- what you refer to as Northlands), Zexen Federation/Confederacy (take your pick), Toran, Tinto and the Island Nations would be unlikely, as that would be rather much of a world war- with only the Grasslanders and Falenas opting out. In any case, I suspect that that kind of scene wil only occur in the final Suikoden in which all the other nations wil unite against the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia to overthrow Hikusaak.

Consider me old-fashioned, but I haven't actually played the rest of the Suikoden games save for 1 and 2, in which the Fire Rune doesn't damage you any as your attack never hits your group. Of course, there's an exception in battle if you use a 'Rune' command with Mazus that has the ability to hit everyone within five squares' radius.

Besides, Suikoden isn't that much of a money-earner compared to the more popular Final Fantasy series, so I can't really see them doing an MMOPRG unless the entire series is over and done with- and of course, if there's a demand for it.

I think this quote is for me...

That was a general idea. This wasn't even directed toward the MMORPG discussion. Mainly for the regular series.

I would say house runes only, no True Runes. I think there should be a Runecaster class or something that get's extra benefits or abilities when using runes.

on a related note, I have seen a Suikoden game IRC-based

unfotunately the person who made the bot was unable to keep the bot online and eventually he stopped leaving the bot in a channel...

so I was unable to see how it works but if the Suikoden mmorpg was set up similar to how that bot was set up it could probably work

Wow, I never knew that it was possible to have an MMORPG on IRC. Are there special kind of bots for it? The only type of game on IRC that uses a bot that I know of are trivias, and even that gets tiresome after a while.

On another note, a Suikoden MUD (Multi User Dungeon, or to put it in simpler terms, a text-based game where you TYPE biggrin ) does exist. I stopped playing about a few months back due to real-life commitments, though (read: work), but according to what I've heard from my friends, it's still around. You guys may want to sample that. 3nodding
