So, I've notice in several animes, a certain theme keeps popping up between the love intrest. That is the Pink Girl and the Blue Boy theme, or just Pink and Blue because love intrest vary. Note: this assumtion is based on what goes on in anime and manga; not fanfiction. If you don't like the pairings, write your own.

History Lesson!
Some time back in the 1400's or so, Celtics believed that evil spirits would try to possess new born babies. To prevent them from doing so, mothers would dress their children in either pink or blue clothing (depending on the gender) to ward off the evil spirits.
In the late 1900's, a woman named Amy gave birth to twins; one a boy, the other a girl. To keep people from getting them confused, she'd tie a pink ribbon around her daughter's ankle and a blue ribbon around her son's ankle.

Cause it's really common in anime (and, as seen from the first post, any kind of animation) It could be starting out with the first character. Ex1: Sonic is blue... He needs a girlfriend... What color should she be...? How about pink? Yeah! Pink and blue! Ex2: Amu has pink hair... How do we get fans to realize she'll be with Ikuto, not Tadase...? How about we make Ikuto's hair blue? Yeah! Pink and blue! Ex3: Nana and Popo look a lot alike... How do we tell them apart...? How about on be pink and the other blue? Yeah! Pink and blue!

Here's my two cents:
I don't know about the other anime/manga but I'm pretty sure that the blue/pink thing doesn't apply to Sasuke and Sakura. Now I'm pretty sure that it's one-sided, with Sakura having a crush on him without even knowing about him and Sasuke not really noticing her then she becomes his teammate and after a while he views her as a comrade of sorts.
The whole blue/pink thing annoys me too, even though I could understand the visually pleasing effect, if we go by Saiyuki and the color wheel, blue and orange would be much more complimentary. Of course, the color wheel also suggests that pink and green would go good together...
