Before any of you read this post, I just want to let you all know that this may be a major spoiler to those who either don't have Sentinels of the Starry Skies yet or haven't made it to this part of the game... Anyway... Last night, I totally beat up the DreadMaster in Swinedimples and got the last fygg. I was all happy and stuff and excited and what not. Then I got back on the Starflight and a cutscene played. First it's just me and Stella hanging out, but then suddenly, Aquila pops up. And I'm so happy because I was wondering the whole game what happened to him after the fall, did he die or what, but he was alive! But then, the guy asks me for all of the fyggs. Being he's supposed to be my teacher, I trusted him and gave him the fyggs. But then he starts talking to this evil king I think it was... memory's kind of hazy and tell him that he will give him the fyggs!!! WHAT?!!! Dude, you were supposed to be on MY side!!! Then, we got into a fight! And guess what? I couldn't even hit him!!! Khera(my character) Would absolutely NOT move!!! And Aquila says students can't harm their superiors mad Well as far as I'm concerned Mr. Superior, you don't even deserve that title or my respect anymore!!! How could a teacher do that to their own student?!!! Such betrayal!!! mad He's lucky that I couldn't hit him! I would've totally critical-ed his butt then threw him off of the Starflight and into the ocean to be food for the sharks! That traitorious jerk! mad

I felt the same way. But I felt more betrayed and intrigued then angry. I thought it was a very good scene. Felt like a punch in the gut.
The game starts to get a little more interesting from here on out. Keep playing. You might find out why he did it.

Fine but how? You know something is obviously going to happen if you're going to a place as part of the story and you already know he's there...

I'm sorry if I sounded rude, Guv, I meant in no way to, I'm just speaking from experience when --> this happened, I actually thought he was going to betray the hero for good. D: <-- then again, I am usually one to just play the game and not put insight into anything, it's great that you can, in fact, I wish I was like you in the way that I could put more insight into things instead of just rushing through everything. Oh, I thought the same thing, Hassan. But for a different reason. I never rush through things. I like to savor the moments of high emotion. I don't like second-guessing myself. Sometimes I do it automatically when a plot is really obvious, but DQIX didn't do that to me. Well, sorta.
I didn't know that Aquila would betray me and then switch to my side again in a really excellent scene, becoming my favorite character in the game.
I did, however, know right off the bat that (DIFFERENT SPOILER) The big bad was Corvus. Chekhov's MIA, man! It was screaming in my face. I mean, his name is freaking Raven! Of course he's gonna be evil! I didn't know why, but I saw it coming a mile away. More on that in a future thread.
The point is: Keep Miss Manakete guessing. If his betrayal made her this mad, the game will get more emotional if she doesn't know what's coming.

I only knew about the main antagonist because I am a bad boy and read the GameFAQs board and stumbled into a spoiler thread. D: And a game is only great if you get emotional about it, therefore I think it's great when people get emotional about a game, it means they really take to the storyline. Oh man, I want to replay Dragon Quest IX now, shame there's only one file a game though.. : ( I already powered through 132 hours of mainly grotto crawling and Metal King Slime stalking and I'm not even half done.

Indeed. I felt really sad at the end when everyone basically died apart from you, Pavo, Celestria, Stella and Sterling. But getting the Starflight Express made it better. razz

~One who knows nothing...~ For me, Aquilla was an arse. But he reminds me of two bald characters from DBZ..one is Krillin, but I can't remember the other...had an eye on his forehead though. ~Can understand nothing...~

I like Aquila. He was badass. (massive spoiler alert) >I was pissed when he betrayed me but when he breaks his control from Corvus and saves you he became awesome again. He can also join your party after you beat the game<
Edit'd by Hassan to keep the spoilers out.

Would you please write those spoilers in white? It's an act of courtesy, you know? In response to your post, I did the quest a while back. And I love the title, "When a Star Wishes upon You." I actually welled up a little when I found Aquila in Angel Falls at the end of the quest. I've recently learned, thanks to the extra stuff in DQVI DS, that some stories in this series are good enough to make me remember the emotions I had for them in the story proper. And to me, Aquila was definitely the most emotional part of this game. And knowing that Corvus cares about what he has done even after ascending with the other Celestrians Was heartwarming too. As was the flashback. whee
