Visited my friend yesterday and he had the first season of Strike Witches. I heard of it for a while and thought I would give the first two episodes a try.

I've seen very awkward stuff in my lifetime, but... wow.

It's a series about little magical military girls who fly around in uncomfortable looking leg devices in either their swimsuits or their underwear.

I would be one of the last people to be against fanservice, but it is all about the delivery. When you watch your generic harems, the fanservice tends to stem from a sequence of ridiculous scenarios, but after watching the first two episodes, I get the impression that I'm supposed to be taking this seriously.

When I finally managed to put aside the highly questionable dress code and random nekomimi transitions, I looked for what else the series had to offer. Lo and behold, it's another dry plot about the main character looking for a parental figure that's mysteriously vanished!

So far, the only thing that seems remotely okay is the overall quality which wasn't all that great from my perspective because I noticed some bad framerate areas on the DVD here and there (but there's a chance it came from the DVD itself...)

Just what is this series offering anyways? It has to be worth something since it moved up to S2, right? How much more do I have to see until I finally get it?

You think that's weird? Watch an anime called Boku no Pico. I dare ya.

Just make sure no one's around when you're watching it.

That sounds like Hash's kinda anime.

Also to answer your question I missed the first time through:

Episode 1-2 is just character introduction.

3-6 is important (and good) character development.

7 is the fanservice episode (Moreso than before [Made better but ooooh so NSFW by StrikeSubs])

8-11 delves deep into the actual story and why they're fighting, among other things I won't spoil. (Again, well done)

12, as the series ender, has the ever popular and appropriate Big Damn Hero moment where the main saves everyone. Although she has help.

One of the best things about the series though, is the history it parodies is actually very accurate.

Each of the main Witches is a gender swapped version of an actual WW2 Ace Pilot, their respective Striker Units are based on the planes they flew, and even character specific things.

An example would be in Episode 4. Charlotte Yeager (A.K.A. Shirley) is the first person in that universe to break the sound barrier. Her reality counterpart Chuck Yeager is known for the same thing.

Hell, even episode 7 has a historical event involving Hitler parodied.

Everything is explained in-universe, and it all makes sense in context.

That sounds like Hash's kinda anime.

He's made a few posts complaining about how he's caught up with the show and has to wait for the next episode.

As for the topic, I'll sit out of this discussion since it'll turn into complaining about shows I don't watch.

Worse, actually. I finished the 2nd season about 3 days ago. Gonna watch it again once the Blu-Ray versions come out.

Kinda funny how this thread popped up about two days after I mentioned it by name in the Spamthread, eh?

That might be worse than me after I discovered Baccano!. You should be ashamed of yourself. xd

I thought you first mentioned it after you finished the first season, which would be longer than that. I could test this and see what happens, though. >_>

The Blu-Rays are always better than the TV versions though D:

Lots of "extra" features >.>

Oh yea, the first time I mentioned it was like over a month ago, for the first season. I was referencing the fact that approximately 2 days after I mentioned finishing season two, this popped up.
