Lately I've been seeing a growing number of people hiding their equipped items so it doesn't appear when you look through the drop-down menu.
Do you do it?
Why or why not?
Do people actually steal complete outfits? Or is it a certain combination you are proud of and don't want others to find out?

I don't hide my equipped list. I don't hide it because I'm vain. >.< I want people to be able to see all the cool items I'm wearing. And also because I don't really care, I guess.
I have had avatars stolen from me with and without the equipped items list. If someone wants to figure it out badly enough they'll be able to anyway. Alot of my avatars are stupidly expensive and hard to steal anyway, though.

It annoys me, because sometimes I like a pose of an item, but I don't know what the item is.
When I see someone wearing it with the list unabled it's annoying. D:

I don't block my equipped items list. I don't care if someone wants to know one or all the items I've equipped.
Hmmm... I'd probably be more protective if I had a signature look with super awesome layering. But I don't. Plus, I know there are people who can reproduce almost any avatar without seeing an item list. There's no point in trying to hide.
Oh. I just remembered. I think I made mine hidden about a month ago. I was toying with the idea of entering an outfit the AvA. I meant to block my list while I contemplated it. I don't know if I did. I should go check that out~
Hidden lists annoy me too. I'm not an outfit stealer. I only look at the list to identify an item I don't recognize. Later, I usually find that item by clicking some other GCDer's equipped items list. And thennnn I find out that it's some multi-million gold item is from the latest RIG. u .u I swear every new item nowadays starts off at that price. XD ...You know, unless it's the rare time that it's actually a free sponsor/event item. <3 Those times rock.
I think there are times when making the list hidden is okay. *shrugs* ...But when the outfit is simple and each item is clearly distinguishable... really? That's when I don't understand why the lists are hidden. (It drives me insane when I see a five-item outfit, but don't recognize one of the items. > <)

Lately I've been getting a lot of items messed up because they are similar. Like the Gaia-sama lips and the Hidden Ace lips. I know they are different but sometimes I look at a look and think: wow, someone paid for a Gaia-sama just to look at their list and realize it's Hidden Ace.
It happens a lot with skins too.
But mostly with new items that look similar to old items. I just assume it's an old item I know about and only later notice it isn't.
I think it helps newer users to get used to the items. It's elitist if only older users can learn to recognize all the items.

I hide my items to slow down the avatar copying. Yes I care if someone copies my look.
But I wear very simple items, it's not that hard to figure it out. Makes it more challenging for newbies. twisted

I don't hide mine. I think this comes from being a WGer and so many of the games are easier when you can see what is equipped. Then again I don't worry much about people stealing my look.

I don't hide my list, but my profile theme excludes it.
But there are a few outifts that I want to keep on the dl.
Some people i know hide it because they believe it makes them a target of hackers and phishers if they have expensive items....

Though with the rise of the cash shop and availability of cash cards so many users have at least a few expensive items I (personally) don't feel too threatened. I also see users frequenting the forums with multiple kitten stars or pale marionettes equipped, or 2003 MCs. So I dunno how targeting goes for hackers, but just by wealth it's true that there is always someone wealthier / showing off more than you. I can totally see both point of view, This is just my thought processes about it smile

I have a lot of gold. I've had a lot of people try to hack/scam/phish me. I don't think that dressing my avatar in start clothes like some Oldbies would deter them at this point. So I don't really care about showing it off but I don't do it by getting a half dozen kitten stars I prefer to be more subtle.

I show mine b/c if see something neat on another avatar I want to know what the item is. So it's nice to be able to go and see what it is instead of having to look through everything on the marketplace or tektek to try and find out. I don't worry about anyone "stealing" my look. It's a complement.

I've never hidden my item list, mostly because I know I like to look at others' to see what items are but also partly because I tend to make avatars with super inexpensive items and like to show this fact off.
Even if I made brilliant avatars, I wouldn't bother to hide the list - if people stole the avatar, I'd have the ability to make another equally good one in my own style whereas the thief wouldn't.
