I love tattoos and piercings and was watching Ripley's Believe it or not so I've been thinking about body mod all day. This is not the first time I have seen Cat, but I just wanted to see what opinions are out there.

So this is Stalking Cat. He is Lakota and his totem animal is the tiger. He feels that if he makes himself look like a tiger he will be closer to his totem. He has gotten forehead implants, whisker implants, surgically altered his ears so they are pointed, surgically altered his top lip, gotten teeth caps {his dentist told him his teeth were in very bad shape}, and obviously tattooed his face and neck like a tiger. He is a very skilled electrician and has a "normal" job. His boss says he has a very good personality and is a good person with a talent as an electrician.

There are two other people that have extreme body mods, The Reptile Man and Katzen.

What do you think about these people? And please don't yell "freaks" because I'm sure someone out there considers you a freak too.

What are your morals about body mods in general?

For me, I think these people are very bold. They all have jobs and lives. Who is to say they are not normal? And I am obsessed and addicted to body mod. I will not go over the top like this. I am very conscious of what will look good on me.

In my eyes the body is a canvas. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, and my beholding finds fascination and beauty in piercings, tattoos, and other mods, like horns, spikes, and my favorite, tongue bifurcation.

My mother is an avid supporter of ink and piercings, herself sport seen (or eight, if you count twin tats on either shoulder), as well as three none standard ear piercings (my favorite being her Monroe). Her brother has plenty of tats himself, including the Tasmanian Devil on his right arm.

I do plan on getting some ink myself, but I'm not much of a sappy guy about it, no past memories to sob over, and I'm just not a mush. The first tattoo I hope to get will be a baphomet (or pentagram, at the least) on my right shoulder blade.

That's really cool. My mom isn't to thrilled about all my 15 piercings and my two tattoos. But it's alright.

And now I have to ask. Why a baphomet? They are usually linked to Satan. A pentagram can be as simple a the elements {fire, water, earth, air and spirit} my husband and I actually got in to an arguement about what they symbolize.

I'd like a baphomet (The Sigil of Baphomet, as I should specify) because it is the most widely recognized symbol of Levayen Satanism, of which my faith belongs. And the elemental pentagram is usually known as a pentacle, or from my knowledge, it's know as such in the Wicca faith, and possibly several other belief system. The markings at each point, clockwise from the left, is Hebrew for Leviathan, whom in Judaic mythology is a representation or of association with Satan.

I think I like the idea of slight body mods, like pointed ears, but I could never get any. God owns me, so I don't really have permission to do anything permanent on a whim, and I'm terribly afraid of needles (and surgery because it involves needles), so I could never even get a tattoo. I think it's awesome when people dress or look different (like wearing wings in public, or a tail). It shakes a lot of people up nicely. biggrin

Okay we're on the same boat. I know a bunch of people who fight with me saying the pentagram/pentacle is the same as the baphomet. Yes, they are the same shape, but no, they have completely different meanings. And I have always wondered why it was Hebrew on the baphomet. Now I know.

@ Blue I have a few tails {a 3 ft black cat and a 1.5 ft blue/purple wolf tail} I used to wear them all the time, but now I have a bit of a different image to uphold. I represent a pretty classy company {Mary Kay} and I don't think it would be right for me to go around the people I know wearing my tails. So they're for around the house and to piss off my brother XD I already have enough piercings to be risque, but I have more planned =^_^=

Actually, the pentacle points up, while the pentagram/baphomet point downwards.

Body Modification is a HUGE no-no in Judaism with only 3 exceptions:
- Male Circumcision (Duh)
- Surgery that will save life or increase quality of life
- Standard earlobe piercing is okay, if I'm not mistaken

But yeah, tattoos are a HUGE no-no (One of the reasons why the Nazis forcibly tattooing numbers on the Jews in the Holocaust was such a big deal), as are piercings, besides the standard earlobe piercing.

It is commonly believed that you cannot be buried in ANY Jewish cemetery if you have tattoos/ body mod. That is not completely true, as some of the more modern Reform cemeteries will still allow you, but it is true for MOST Jewish Cemeteries.

Well yea, just spin it. I was pretty sure that the pentacle is point up with no circle and the pentagram is point up, with the circle. That is how I have always seen it. I could be mixed up though.

I find it odd how strict some religions are, but I definitely understand the WWII reasoning.

Do you know why it is so strict?

I think this one is okay because when a slave wanted to remain a slave, they could do so by piecing their ear in ancient Israel; at least, that's what I've heard.

I believe that there are several verses in the OT of the Bible that specifically state that God does not like His people do do these things, tattooing is specifically mentioned, as is cutting for mourning.

personally I don't like pain. I have two tattoos, and I don't plan on anymore. I have never gotten my ears pierced, and I am not about to pierce anything else. I live with enough pain now as it is, I am not about to add to it intentionally.

I just have two piercings in my lobe. I want to get one in the cartilage of my ear. Other than that, I'm not really interested in getting more piercings. Oh! Except I've seen people with small rings or studs on that little triangle-shaped bit in the middle of the ear, I don't know what it's called... It looks really cool, but I've heard it hurts like hell.
As for tattoos, I like them. I definitely want to get one some day. But I'm still thinking about what to get and where.

I wouldn't judge anybody for having a tattoo or piercing. Well, sometimes it depends on the meaning.
I think I have the same bias towards people who get a tattoo that they don't know the meaning of because it looks cool that I do to, for example, young Buddhists who spell their religion "Budist". I don't do it on purpose, I think four brain-melting years of high school just does that to you.
Anyway, what a person wants to do with his body is up to him.

@Evil By Name: I didn't know we had any Levayen Satanists in the guild. I know a lot of people who can hold their own in a conversation about Satanism but no one who actually practices it. Until now I guess. XD That's really cool.

That is the tragus. Too many people have them now. I like to be original, although I do have many of the same piercings.... It irks me.

And yes, the people who get tribals just "because they look cool" is absolutely stupid, to me. Make something that has a meaning for crying out loud. My husband knows someone who has the symbol for Chaos, from Warhammer, on his chest. He had no clue what it ment, he simply thought it looked cool so he got it.

Okay. So it's like the Aztec gods telling the people "I want blood" so they sacrifice {I just felt like using that example so shoosh}. Just doing what the gods have said to the people.
