Are ellipses a bad form of grammar? I have always used them... quite a bit... I believe it helps the reader slow down and take in the words I am typing to them, and it helps me think a bit.

Ellipses... are bad when overused. Very, very bad.
It's awful when half of the characters in a post are periods making up ellipses.

Being impatient and spamming your own thread is an excellent way to get banned.

1. The guild is not dead. We're here. We're just not the chatterbox, where you can expect a response in less than a minute. So stop spamming your thread.
2. Ellipses are only to be used when needed. If you were to turn in an English paper riddled with ellipses, you will be spanked by the teacher, and get point deductions rather quickly. Think of this guild as your English teacher with flamethrowers.
3. Acting like a n00b, and then asking how to make them feel like s**t is the quickest way to get flamed.

The time to use ellipses is when omitting certain parts of a quote. And for having time to think, its a flippin' message board, take all the time you want formulating your posts. Tch. TCH.

Yeah, when omitting part of a quote, or to denote a pause in dialogue. I'd never use one in an essay or formal letter.

Elipses are just like any other part of the English language, good in proportion. I.E. too many adjectives make your sentence sound wordy; too many commas makes your paper a mess; too many elipses just make you look, wel... stupid.

haruki_jitsunin Ellipses are just like any other part of the English language , good in proportion. (This just seems awkward)
I.E. (this is not in caps) Too many adjectives make your sentence sound wordy; too many commas makes your paper a mess; too many ellipses just make you look , well, (This can be left out) stupid. Edit: I just noticed that the 'i.e.' could have been left out altogether. The EDITED revision I Ellipses are just like any other part of the English language; best used in proportion. I.e. too many adjectives make your sentence sound wordy, too many commas make your paper a mess, and too many ellipses just make you look stupid. Edit: Sorry, I must have posted his about the same time my brain shuts down for the day. Wow, this is a saddening post. Who is this person, and why did you let this person in? sad Edit: I fixed the mistakes. I am terribly sorry for my horrendous display of poor spelling and grammar.

I.e., too many adjectives make your sentence sound wordy, ; too many commas make your paper a mess, and ; too many ellipses just make you look stupid. And too many semicolons are as bad as too many ellipses.

I agree. Ellipses are addicting and otherwise fun, but, just like what everyone before me has said, they should be used in moderation.
