I loved the pit and drumline at my high school. but the pit never came outside to practice. i know the equipment is heavy and it takes time to get out to the practice lot. then there is the problem of finding an electric power sorce. The pit at the high school down the street came out only after the sun had gone down. I just want to know why some pits don't go outside to practice as much as the rest of their bands.

I imagine it's mostly because the only maneuvers most pit crews do with the field is coming on and off with the equipment. They simply don't have a real reason to since they can rehearse inside for their music.

they still could come outside. even if they don't come all the way to the practice lot. They could set up right outside the door to the band hall. And there is some space to spread out between the two doors to get into the theater. I know that in a lot of bands the Pit gets alot of beef because everyone thinks they aren't doing much of anything. In my band that could be remided by them coming outside if not all the way to the practice lot, then right outside the door to the band hall.

Well, high school people are immature generally anyway, them coming outside won't remedy that thought. They'll just complain that the pit doesn't have to march on the field with you or something. ._.

Before band camp, my school's pit never went outside. Now, we do.

We don't for band camp because we don't even have our music. But we do go out for the rest of the days. I don't know why yours doesn't. We have tons of crap to bring up a hill and we only have 6 people. :T

: Our pit comes out every day. They don't complain at all (they have 28 people and over 40 things to move outside) and we have an extension cord for the power source for electrical things. And yet they still suck.

We go outside most days. We have three carts (marimba, vibes which are broken and have to be carried, bells+ small aux) and a few stands and things that don't fit in the cabinet. There are 3 of us. Moving it all takes 5 of us- there are 3. It's a pain in the butt. This may be why your pit doesn't practice outside, but that stuff really is a pain in the EVERYTHING to move. I hurt my back and shoulders trying to do it once. But yeah, that is funny. We go outside everyday there's time (AKA most days)

Our pit goes outside with us all the time, but I wish for the love of God that they would stay the flute inside. scream
Our BD makes them come ouside so that they can rehearse the music with us and we can all practice being in sync together, but JEEZ. The synth player totally sucks at keeping time and never fails to mess the band up with her weak playing. It pissed me off to no end. Not to mention I don't even like the girl. stressed

The pit at my highschool practices inside when we are outside because of the time it takes to move everything....Plus, most of the people in the pit are injured in some way, so they cannot march. They do practice though, all the time

our pit comes out but it would almost benefit them to stay inside because they cant practice the entire time because the band director may want the band to do the drill on counts or something so i know our pit wastes time that they could be practicing because they come out with the band and they need that practice they suck

Our pit doesn't practice outside until about the end of the second week of the entire band's camp. (The percussion and guard have a week of camp prior to the wind players.) For that day or two we play a little to get used to the sound, and we get assigned positions in the pit crew--just in case there aren't thousands of wonderful parents, siblings, and noobs to help. heart In the last week, we spend half of the day practicing outside or inside with the band. And. It. Sucks. As was mentioned before, the band always needs to work on drill or something, leaving me to fry. DX However, it is not a waste of time; our pit doesn't watch the drum major (basic physics; ask me for details), so we have to get used to listening to the battery or the band. But, while the band's just learning drill or music, there's no point in getting the pit outside very often.
