Has anyone else ever wished that there was really an organization like VFD? I love all the secrets and codes and s**t. I know, there are probably government agaencies that make use of that stuff, but it doesn't seem as good. Like, VFD seems to be made up of fairly ordinary people (like me!) who just pool their talents in an effort to make the world a better place. *Sigh* Some girls' deepest wish is to be a princess, so help me, I want to be a detective for VFD! If anyone ever feels like creating a secret organization, call me up. I'd love to volunteer. wink

I know exactly how you feel.

I may not be average (I'm certainly not normal) but the thought of VFD makes me feel like even eccentric loners and weird neurotic teenagers could accomplish great things. I'd want to join VFD too, if I could.

I wanted to be a princess when I was a little boy, but that's not the same thing...

Oh boy... ME TOO. Seriously.

Well, when I say average I mean that you don't have to be a super-athlete or ravishingly beautiful. You can have a talent that's generally not even considered a talent and still be useful. For example, I am a history buff. I win contests and s**t. In the real world, that means almost nothing, but I'm sure in VFD it could be something useful. Like, how I can memorize historical events could somehow be used in a code or something. Like, being a researcher (like Klaus) is not normally considered an extrodinary charateristic, but VFD glorifies that sort of thing. I'm sure they have use for super-athletes and the ravishingly beautiful as well, but that's just my point, every talent is worthwhile.

So that means that I could perform in a stage production of "The World is Quiet Here" and pass messages on to other volunteers domokun !!!

Things I know about/how to do:

I am a semitalented writer
I speak Russian (am actively studying more)
I have extensive knowledge of video games, godzilla movies, and paranormal/cryptozoological creatures
I read a lot of comic books

I could help hide codes in monster films or in comic books, or translate Verified Factual Dispatches into Russian...

Oh yeah, the writing and the video games would totally be an asset. You could, like, program some kind of message into what looks like a Pokemon game or something which could be passed though volunteers via a used game shop or something. The Video-Game Fact-transfer Device. Or something like that. Making up acronyms is definately not my talent.

That's what I like about VFD. Unlike other organizations (The X-Men, the Avengers, the Justice League, the Girl Scouts) you don't need superpowers or amazingly specialized abilities to join. Your natural talents, obscure though they may be, will suffice.

Okay, my talents:
Writing,
Music,
Speaking German,
Crocheting (like scarves and stuff)

What do you think I'd be good at in VFD?

You could merge the writing and musical talents to compose opera with the Sebald code in them or something. Or pop songs, or musicals, whatever would be the most effective way of transfering messages.

You could make scarves with German phrases crocheted into them in sebald code and when you put the scarf on it plays songs that secretly reveal the location of the sugar bowl. eek

You know about the paranormal, I know a lot about cryptozoology and a little about the paranormal...I bet we'd be assigned as partners, what do you bet?

So, to recap:
I'm a writer
I can speak semi-fluent Russian (And I LIVE in Russia, so I'm learning more Russian every day)
I watch an unusual amount of Godzilla films and zombie movies
I play a lot of video games
I have remarkable capacity to remember all kinds of useless nonsense and nothing at all of value, hence my need for a commonplace book.

I guess since I can remember all kinds of seemingly useless things, I'd be good at Verbal Fridge Dialogue.

I'm sure there is some sort of organization like the VFD, not exactly like it. But hey, if there's a real Men in Black there can be a real VFD. Start one yourself if you like, it couldn't be too difficult. Mostly networking and a lot of free time. That and you'd have to have at least three children it sounds like, lol.

That's where there's one up on the Harry Potter fandom, the VFD is possible, Hogwarts not so much.

It would be awesome if there really was an organization like VFD. Then, we'd be able to disguise ourselves and talk in secret codes, but unlike in the pretend spy games I played when I was little, we'd actually be doing something meaningful.

Sadly, the closest thing I'd ever be to a VFD member is if there's a VFD roleplay, and we don't know enough information to start one.
