This is my first year with a drill team, and I get to be a leader. 8D

To me, it's quite amazing. It's a brilliant experience for both horse and rider, to both learn patience, speed rating, and to soften their horses on the bit.

My horse, Gidget, has had previous issues with wanting to race ahead. It's fortunate that we're leaders and we can go fast, and it's also very much fun to swing a pinwheel and lope with the flags.

The best experience I've had with it has been the flags. My horse had been traumatically afraid of flags for the past months, and when I tried it on her I honestly didn't know what to expect. But she was perfect. Walk, jog, lope, everything perfectly. I was amazed.

And another thing. She usually freaks out when I take her anywhere new, and now that I'm in a drill team I end up taking her many new places, and now she's fine with it.

And then there are very many fun advantages! 8D My partner and I always have a lot of fun after practice. The last practice we had we decided to race, and I've never done it before on my horse. Meagan, my partner, had done speed events with her horse, Mojo, but I hadn't done any with Gidget. The first time she wasn't exactly sure about it, but the second time she took off like a bullet. I felt the actual Quarter Horse take-off, where they gather their hindquarters and put on a burst of speed, and keep it.

Oh geez, I'm rambling. Just one more thing: I was working VERY hard on flying lead changes with my horse, but she didn't seem to get it. At our 4-H horse camp, one of the clinicians helped me out ery much and encouraged me to try it. To my astonishment, she did it the first time! And she's been doing them ever since!

All I can say is that drill team is an AMAZING experience. Everyone should give it a shot and try it! <3

And we too, have a competition coming up. It's on Saturday, so hopefully all goes well! (:

Our season is almost over. DDDDDx We end the first week of September. My partner, who's also a leader, isn't coming back next year, because she's going to college. DD:

that stinks sad I didn't think we were going to have a drill team next year because my 4-H spit up. It turns out though that we are going to hav more people then we had last year because people who left the 4-H group came back because sertain other people are no longer there.

Ahhh. Yeah, I hope we get new people next year. We only had like eight, I think? So we aren't that big. x.x
