This is a tutorial on how to 3-D an x style cuff. The base I will be using for this one is a double x style cuff, which means it is twice the height of a normal x cuff. For this tutorial you will need:

An X style cuff of any size, preferably a double X
Beads
String
Scissors

First, start off with your completed cuff.

User Image

If you haven't cut the string off yet, great. Tie it off, but don't trim it. If you've already cut your string, simply tie a new piece on to your top row.

Now, you'll want your thread to poke out of an anchor point. For my picture, it's the white. Thread on three beads.

User Image

Then, weave your thread under your next anchor point on the same row.

User Image

Repeat, until you have gone all the way around the top of the cuff.

Make sure that you are coming out of an anchor bead. Now, thread on three more beads.

User Image

Now, going diagonally down, match up your beads. The next bead after the three is your new anchor point, and will be the row for all your bottom anchor points for this step.

User Image

Now, after going under your anchor, thread on three more beads, and go up diagonally, using the anchor points from the step above as your anchor.

User Image

Do this all the way around, up and down, until you get back to your starting point.

Once you reach your starting point, you can either weave under a few beads so you'll be at the opposite side of the x, or tie off and start a new string so you're on the opposite side. Make sure you're coming out of an anchor bead. Once you're on the opposite side, thread on one bead, then thread it through your center bead.

User Image

Then, thread on one more bead, and thread it through your anchor bead.

User Image

Keep doing this all the way around, up and down, until you reach your starting point. Then, tie your string off.

At this point, you are half way done. Simply flip your cuff over, and repeat the steps to finish the process.

~~~~ALTERNATE METHOD~~~~
If you don't want to flip your cuff and repeat the process, there is another way which will save you a bit of time. When you reach the end of the first set of x, thread on three more beads, and thread down through an anchor on the bottom of your cuff.
User Image
It's basically the same steps, just a bit in reverse. You still do the three up and down, then the twos to complete the Xs, then the three border around the edge. It's really up to you, either method will give you the same results.
The finished product will look something like this:
You can leave it like this, or you can embellish it even further. Using the base posted above, I continued to add, and ended up with this:
The main key is creativity. With a little imagination, you can make anything. wink
If you're referring to the base, don't worry. I have a tutorial I'm working on for that right now as well. It'll be up in the next few days or so.
Thank you for this tutorial. Here's a pic of my first attempt at a 3-D cuff. I'd actually never tried the double x pattern before either. It wasn't quite right, though; it kind of rolled in on itself. I think I must have pulled the upper layers tighter than the base or something. I'm sure I'll do better next time. ^_^
It looks pretty good for a first attempt, I've seen ones from people that have made several that look far worse. If that's what you made your first time, I can't wait to see more. 3nodding
