SUMMER ART CONTEST - WATER

Summer is here and so is the hot weather. Since we had a winter contest, I figure we may as well have a summer one!

This contest is simple, create a drawing around the theme WATER. There must be at least one character (human or otherwise) in the drawing. You can draw your avi, a mod's avi, an anime character, an OC, whomever you wish. But the theme is water, so remember that the artwork must somehow include the theme.

You may begin creating your art now. The deadline for submissions is July 31st.

There will be four winners, each winner receiving a prize of 250,000 gold.

Winners

Black507's "Water Maiden" shows a fantastic use of traditional tools. Every individual fish scale is drawn on the body, and the armor and weapons show a significant amount of detail themselves. The water is drawn quite well, and the composition of the scene creates the idea of the maiden creating her own tidal wave. This piece must have taken extreme patience and motivation, and has earned its place in the winner's circle.



"Mermaid" by s2 - M i l a d i i is a great piece that makes good use of bright blue colors to really bring out the atmosphere. The sky and water look clear and bright, which makes you feel that you happened upon a rare sight on a beautiful sunny day. The water effects vary from hard splashes to soothing and whimsical under the mermaids ministrations and are done nicely. The color choice for the mermaids outfit are quite fitting as well, as the purple pops out from the blues, yet doesn't clash with them.
Overall, it's a wonderful piece that has been appropriately placed as a winner.



dn_chrono_dear's Water Spirit is a fabulous display of concept, lighting, colors, and contrast. Fantastic use of texture, especially in the hair and starfish. The water above the character is really awesome, especially with how the light cracks through the waves. It definitely deserves to be in the winner's circle.



Idunnea's artwork of the girl with the umbrella utilized both the bleak colors often associated with rain in the city with bright and pastel colors to draw the eye to the subject. The details in the girl's outfit, the rain and puddles, and the background help pull the whole work together. The fact that the girl's hair, shoes, and nails all match is wonderful and the spatters of rain bouncing off the umbrella as well as the cascading rain drops falling behind the girl really captured the feel of a rain shower. This whole work was well done and detailed without being distracting making this piece a real winner.
