Maggie fought hard not to flinch as another thunderbolt cracked through the pouring rain, for a brief moment illuminating the darkness with sharp, white light. She stood perfectly still for a moment, counting under her breath. She only got to "two" before the deafening thunder rolled in and sleeked her ears back with its hideous noise.

The brown mare berated herself once again as she carefully begun putting one hoof in front of the other once more. She really should have sought shelter earlier. She had seen all the signs, even smelled the rain on the wind, and in good time too, but she had been too eager to explore, and too lax in her jugdement of the speed and ferocity of the storm, to get out while there was still time. Now she found herself precariously working her way down a very slippery slope, that the pouring rain had turned into a muddy, gloopy deathtrap for a horse like her, and it was getting more and more difficult to control her own movements: The rain had long since pounded its way into her coat, letting a terrible chill into her very bones, and soaked both mane and tail and made them heavy.

She needed to get down in cover of the trees, but she also needed to be very careful. It was still a long way down, and she thought she had glimpsed some sort of water below her, in that last flash of lightning. A small lake or river, perhaps. She needed to change her angle of descent, or she might end up going from wet to wetter.

"Okay, nice and easy..." she muttered to herself, "Let's try getting over to that... ah... Oh! Noo!"

She barely managed a short, terrified whinny as she felt the mud slip away under her hooves, before her breath was punched out of her as her flank hit the ground. She felt the mud slip and slide all around her and fought desperately to regain her footing, even though she knew it was no use. A sudden, sharp stab of pain in her right front leg made her gasp for breath, and the last thought that flew through her head before she blacked out from the pain and the terror was:

"If I get buried under the mud... No one will ever find me. No one will come looking..."

As the rain faded away and the first morning light tentatively begun peeking through the dispersing clouds, it touched on the mud-stained brown and light blue of the mare, who lay at the brink of the water, at the foot of a long, slippery slope.

Her eyes were closed, and she wasn't moving at all.

Cael didn't mind the rain, or the thunder that much really, other than he was cold and very wet, that wasn't so pleasant. Though the flashes of lightning were making it hard to look for whatever or whoever he was looking for. Stopping and shaking his head, blinking a few times, trying to clear the spots the last flash of lightning had given him. Looking around again once he could see properly, the storm was getting worse and he needed to find whatever it was quickly.

Making his way cautiously along the river bank, the water was starting to swell over onto the grass. This place was starting to flood, he would need to remember that for heading back to his home. Giving himself a shake off, not that it would do any good at all but it took the chill off for a moment. Resuming his search, the rain pounding the whole time, having actually started heading back towards his home when the storm finally breaks. Having done nearly a full circle while he searched, still dripping wet but he would keep looking, something told him that he was getting closer to where he was supposed to be.

Rounding the corner, the river having cut a deep gully here over the years, seeing that part of that had collapsed. For a moment thinking nothing of it, the land collapsed often, especially after such a bad storm. What stopped him was seeing some pail blue hair among the mud, the colour of the mare and the fact she was covered in said mud made her nearly invisible apart from the few bits of blue hair that were still blue. Moving over to the blue stands and looking carefully at the mare, leaning in, listening for her breathing, good he could hear that. Laying his ear on her chest, heartbeat, that was good too...

Moving around the mare carefully needing to be able to talk to her to easily tell what was hurt, but as she was out cold he cleared off what mud he could from her and started running his nose down her back and legs, not wanting to move her only to do her more harm. Something was wrong with her front leg but he couldn't do anything till he got her home, he had all of his equipment there... Looking down at her and hoping she didn't wake alone, leaning in as he scratched at the dirt near her nose so she knew someone had been there just in case, speaking clearly to her, not sure if she would hear. "I will be back, I need help to move you, but I will be back." And with that he ran, covered in mud himself now he ran for a friend that lived near his little cave, he needed the other stallions help, he also needed a few things from the cave.

(Note: Said friend is owned by me but has no need of more rp so wont be actually played at the moment.)

Cael ran hard and fast, reaching his friend Abloec very quickly, not really stopping to explain just yelling that he needed help as he ran past, the green male falling in behind him. The pair of them stopping at Cael's cave, picking up a few things to help them move the mare before they headed back to where she was laying. The two of them laying a thick bit of wood either side of her, carefully working to pass the strapping Cael had taken from his human mothers home under her, making a rough stretcher out of leather and wood. Ab helping Cael get the strap at the front over his antlers so he could drag it beck to his cave, thinking it would be easier to treat her wounds there.

Walking along with Ab as he dragged the stretcher along, the other male sticking around to help the antlered one get out of the getup he now had around him. Finally reaching the cave. glad of the help to get out the harness, the green male Abloec taking his leave offering help if he was needed again. Cael smiled at his friend and started carefully working on washing the mares leg enough to see what she had done to it, not having been able to feel anything else wrong but he would check again. So that is what he did, covered in mud, looking more brown than pink because of how grubby he was, fur and hair sticking up in odd tufts. Working gradually, checking for more injuries once he had cleaned and braced her leg, wanting to be sure that he got them all.

Maggie woke slowly from dreams of pain and sliding, moving. As the dizziness of that not-quite-sleep gradually left her, she realised that she was cold, and still quite wet, and in quite some pain. Though uncomfortable in every way, she had to admit to herself that it was probably a good thing, as it meant that she was still alive.

She heaved a very shallow sigh and forced herself to wake up faster. She had to know where she was, how bad her injuries were... Suddenly, a new realisation dawned on her. A touch. Very light, very careful... almost completely drowned out by the pain and the dizziness, but - yes, definitely. Something was touching her.

Very careful not to make any sudden move, so as not to startle whatever it was that was touching her ( -and, she realised, breathing on her, to boot- ) Margaretha slowly forced her eyes open to try and get a look at the thing.

When she did, she couldn't help but gasp as the ice cold jaws of fear closed around her heart for a moment. The thing was huge, with tufty fur and covered in mud, it's head appearing to her muddled eyes as one big snarl of sharp, frightening points.

"Hya! Help!" she gasped, but it only came out as a hoarse whimper.

Cael looked up at the soft but horse cry for help. Confused at first as he had been helping, or at least that was what he was trying to do, not having realised how intimidating or frightening he might look all caked in mud and who knew what else. Lifting his head and looking at the now awake mare and offering a smile. "Hold still I'm just checking to see if anything is broken." Other injuries he would need to wash the mud off of her in order to check for but breaks he could do right away.

Going back to his careful and gentle probing giving her chance to look round. Him and his friend had managed to get her to the cave where Cael lived, he had taken enough time to start a fire before he had begun probing. While he had done that his friend Ab had gone and fetched water a lot of water. There was now a large trough near the fire warming up so he could wash her soon, as well as a smaller trough away from the fire, staying cool for drinking. Ab had decided not to leave, and was in fact asleep in the other side of the fire, drying off and warming up, he would leave when the weather improved. All in all it was dry and the fire was spreading heat in the enclosed space, soon she would be warm and when he was done checking for her injuries she would be clean and dry.

It was a weird place, human items dotted around, like the troughs of water and bottles of who knew what. But Cael was definately not human, though he seemd totally at ease and content in this space. Smoke was funneling along the roof of the cave and out the entrance, outside the rain had returned.

The horrible thing moved at the sound of her voice, as if surprised, and a very gentle voice spoke to her from somewhere. It took her a heartbeat to realise what the voice had said, and another to understand that it was the snarly, pointy thing that had spoken. Then realisation flowed over her, and she stilled, blinking at the apparition with her mouth hanging open in a most unladylike way.

It was no monster, this thing before her. It was a fellow soquili - or, rather, a cerynei, judging by his (Oh, my, yes, definitely a male, too...) impressive antlers. How could she ever have been mistaken?

Somewhat embarrassed by her own strange outburst, and still a bit dizzy, Maggie let the antlered male administer to her for a little while, as she looked around, trying to figure out where she was.

Nothing that she could see was of any help in that regard. Some cave, somewhere...? But so full of strange objects! She felt her curiosity stirred in spite of herself.

She was also starting to feel a bit rude at remaining silent for so long, now that she had fully understood that the male was helping her, and had obviously gone through some pains at getting her out of the rain.

"Um..." she ventured, keeping her voice low so as not to disturb the other slumbering figure at the other side of the wonderful fire. "...Might I ask... where is this?"

Giving the mare another smile when he was done with the probing, it was time to clean them both off so he could treat her wounds. "This is my home, my friend Ab over there helped me get you back here where I could make sure you were ok, as for location, your not too far from where we found you, this cave overlooks the river from one of the cliffs." It wasn't big cliff but the cave was deep enough to give the 3 grown soquili more than enough room. Giving her another reassuring smile. "Let me just clean off and then I can help you get clean and we can tend your wounds properly."

His expression friendly as he stepped out, leaving the warmed water just for her, it had something in it and had a faint sweet scent. Cael stepped back into the heavy rain, the cold water pounding the mud off of him, and it didn't take long. Stepping back inside with a small shake away from the pair by the fire, the now pink toned cloudy pelted stallion looked much less frightening. Walking over and picking up a wooden jug and walking over to the warm water and dropping it in. "It might sting a little where you have hurt yourself but we need to get the dirt out of your cuts." Moving another smaller bucket over to the fire to heat, dropping some roots in it and leaving it to warm, smiling at her never having given anyone a bath before but she needed clean and her walking was probably a bad idea for now. "Lets get you cleaned up." Picking up the jug he had dropped in the sweet warm water and carefully so as not to spill it he started pouring it over her, starting at her head. slowly rinsing the mud off of her. The water was plesantly warm, and next to the large fire she would dry off in no time.

"Your home..." Maggie looked around again, marvelling at the strangeness of the cave, but even more at her own incredible luck. She had been in such despair when the mudslide started, so sure of being utterly beyond help, that this warm, sweet-smelling, curiously decorated cave and it's two inhabitants would have seemed like a feverish dream, if the pains and aches throughout her body hadn't kept her so firmly grounded in reality.

The muddy stallion gave her a very pleasant smile and ventured out of the cave to get dry, and she contemplated for a moment to try to speak to his resting friend, to give her thanks for her miraculous rescue, but decided it was probably better not to disturb him. Then the other stallion came back in again, and Maggie could only blink rapidly in surprise. What a change! With all the mud and dirt and various leaves and twigs washed off, the stallion was all soft pinks and subdued browns, almost luminous in places. Indeed, he looked like an entirely different creature!

This time, when he smiled at her, she returned his smile - somewhat apologetic for her first mistaken impression.
"I'm sorry, I would get up and get myself washed, but... my leg." She gave the limb a nervous glance. "It... doesn't feel right."

She closed her eyes and held her breath as the pleasantly warm and fragrant water spilled over her head, shaking her hair out of her eyes when it stopped pouring.
"Um," she said, trying to get eye contact with the cloud-patterned cerynei, "Thank you... very much for all your trouble." She smiled, an exhausted but very sincere smile, "You most likely saved my life. I'm in your debt."

Cael carried on rinsing the dirt off of her, having put the petals in the water to scent it, having been told by his human mother on occasions that when a mare/woman was at her worst, is when she wanted to feel at her best. So he had scented the water to make her feel more femanin and pampered, after all it was no hardship to him, and as long as she was clean she might as well smell nice, it would help her relax too.

Putting the scoop he had been using to wash her he smiled rassuringly, she was now clean and he could treat her injuries properly. "Your legs not broken, but its very badly sprained, its going to take a while and lots of rest before your able to put weight on it again." Dropping a large folded leaf by her, the folds falling open and something slightly bitter smelling drifted up. "This might sting a little but it will help your cuts." Dipping his nose in the ungent and deliberately breathing through his moth he started applying it to where she had cut herself in the fall, it did sting but soon that went away. His breath was warm against her wet fur, though he didn't really notice the intamacy of the situation, so focused was he on what he was doing.

Soon he was done with that and was looking for something else, he wasn't very good at conversation but he did try, he knew others found it reassuring, especially when they were hurting. "I don't think helping someone should make a debt, you wanted help, I wanted to help you, it all balances out really doesn't it." He was definitely not going to mention the way he had come to help her, most found him weird enough, though if she got to know him properly she would find out eventually.

I am closing this Role Play down as we had agreed to work on things to progress the plot through June and nothing has happened. I'm very sorry and wish you much luck in finding other plots/mate for Maggie.

I'm really sorry, but I know you will soon find a new mate for Caelius. I wish things would have been different, but for now it is better this way. I wish you much luck and better rp partners!
