Welcome one and all to the 1st EVER Persona 4:FES Original Character Class Creation Contest! This is a contest in which YOU can come up with a type of class or power which may [or may not] exist in the Shin Megami Tensei universe! Now, you may be asking yourself...what do I mean by class? A class in this Guild is a means by which you obtain power. Classes that we have currently include:
Basic Persona-User (I. Team, SEES) Shadow Persona-User (Hetero's Team) Strega Persona-User (Strega) Devil Summoners (Yatagarasu) Atma Users (Embryon, others...) Shomonkai (Nanjou) COMP-Users and Orochi Summoners (The Orochi).
The differences between these groups are the power itself, how they are obtained, and the uniqueness of their ability with regards to how it changes the user. Persona-Users on the I. Team can only use their persona in the TV, for example, and their power comes in the form of a summoned beast via crushing a card [after facing themselves]. Devil Summoners capture spirits from the Dark Realm and force them to serve their cause. Atma Users were born with or fused with a demon at a young age, merging their life forces and powers together.
The Class that you create will be different from these, but same in the sense that it will be a way for people to obtain a certain power...a power which you will design from the ground up! You don't have to have your own organization [you may help another group, be independent, the specifics of their history and coming to Inaba may be worked out later]...all you need to do is come up with an idea for the powers, how it will affect the users, and a profile outline for people who might make someone in your class.
------------
Unlike the last contest, this one will not necessarily be decided by a Guild vote...but once the contest is closed you may discuss your favorites and see which of the many Original Classes your peers like the most. Perhaps it will be taken into account when a winner is declared?
So post away, chat about your profile outline, the Class, and whatever else you like! Most of all, have fun and enjoy the festivities!!! Quote: Original NPC Character Creation Contest Rules!1. You must create the basic idea for a Class which people can create characters as a part of. This will include the type of powers they can obtain [how it manifests, where they can obtain it, from whom], how many abilities from the standard list they can use [if any], any unique properties the Class might have [one or two at most], and [if possible] a profile outline for the class you create. 2. Your character may reference or be slightly based on some other series [don't take 'Original' TOO literally], but they must not have existed in this Guild prior and should not too closely be twined with major plot events. You do NOT have to explain how the Class came to be in the Megami Tensei Universe, and you don't have to come up with their whole history. That can be worked out if and when you win the contest. 3. You must post your character profile outline as complete as you can possibly make it, using a similar format to what you would see in the Character Creation Forum. 4. You may only post one Class to be considered for the contest. They must be posted in this forum by the time I close the submissions. The sooner the better. 5. Be creative, have fun, and if you have any questions as to whether or not you should include something, ask myself or a moderator. 6. The Class may ally itself with ANY alignment, but if you would prefer that they lean towards a particular one [or none at all], you may say as much in your description. 7. If your class is meant to have an evolution eventually, if you wish for them to start out at a stronger starting level than other classes, or if you think they should have a higher/lower ceiling than other classes, don't hesitate to say as much [and why]. 8. More rules may be added as necessary.

Quote: Judge Reviewing: -- Judge's Review: -Example Class- ::Alter-Users:: Quote: Class Outline: Alter-Users (Much of the history here is not necessary for your class. Including the origins of the power is completely optional) --Alter-Users were created by the government in response to the rise of supernatural threats throughout Japan, with research into their creation being a relatively recent development in the last twenty-or-so years. Researched and developed in secret, Alter-Users were made with the intention of eventually creating a supernatural fighting force born and bred to carry out the will of the government without the middle-men and attitudes involved in both Embryon and the Yatagarasu. The hope was that by developing their own supernatural force, they could eventually cut ties with those two independent groups...and one day, see them eliminated completely. The experiments required live demons to be captured and brought into specific laboratories in one of 9 locations throughout Japan [six in the Capitol, 2 in Port Island, and one in Yakushima] to have their essence extracted from within them, killing the demons while preserving their powers in a liquid form. Then, using "volunteer" human test subjects, the liquid would be injected into their bodies to awaken in them powers similar to the essence of the demon. Each demon, however, was found to have an essence based in a particular element...and each of these newly-created soldiers could only control supernatural powers of a single element, when said element was present within a certain radius. For example...extracting the essence from a Fire-type demon would only allow the user of that essence to control and use Fire techniques...and might only work if there was a ready source of fire within [say] 20 meters. Alter-Users convert that ready-supply of an element into their power, using it to form their armor, weapon, spells, or whatever else they manipulate it into. And once they've created their Alter, they will be able to use their spells and command their Alter at-will. Though there were several failures in the testing process, eventually, it was a successful project. Several finished-product Alter-Users were produced throughout these labs, and the government was just getting ready to announce their existence when one day, 90% of the Alter-Users who had been produced died...almost instantly. Unable to explain the phenomenon, the government were forced to cut their losses and shut down the Alter-User project, 'discarding' the remaining subjects to cover their tracks. Evidence of 'Alter's' existence was erased from memory...except for the rumors, whispered only amongst the most trusted and bold in the confines of the Capitol's highest, that a few of the Alter-Users had escaped before the purge of the labs. Things to Know About Alter-Users1. Alter-Users may command spells of one element and physical skills [with healing counting as a Water element], and require that element to be present for them to user their ability. No element, no Alter. 2. Using that element, Alter-Users can create some unique thing or skill [an armor, a weapon, a set of armor that attacks alongside you] which can be used in combat. Both it and you [or any variation of that] can use the spells you have listed. 3. Alter-Users were created [not all were raised there, though] in labs for government use to replace the Yatagarasu and Embryon as their personal special force. To receive powers, they were injected with the liquefied essence of a demon. 90% of the Users created died, however, and the project was canceled. 4. Several Alter-Users escaped the 9 Labs into Japan at large. Each bears a tattoo of a number somewhere on their body of their lab number...an brand left by the scientists who wanted everyone to know that this particular unit was their work. 5. Alter-Users are, generally, only out for themselves. They stick together with other Alter-Users at times, but usually only because they are the only ones they can trust [since they had suffered the same fate]. They can open up to others, however. It varies from person-to-person. 6. Alter-Users have very little growth potential. They have one upgrade to their power possible [a secondary ability they can learn using their element and Alter], but it raises their strength exponentially. They start on an average starter tier but raise quite a few with their secondary Alter power. How they obtain their secondary Alter power is not yet known... ::Original Character [Alter-User]:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: [Mods will do this.] Gaia Name: Quote: Name: [What is your character's name?] Code Name: [What does your character like to be called, or what are they called normally?] Age:Appearance: [Please use an anime or video game image. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Arena Emperor Judge's Review: Much of what I wrote about the Oniman class applies here. This class is unpredictable and provides some interesting options through which people can implement their power. It still has the feel of Atma-Users or Summoners Demon Forms a bit, but isn't so close that it's necessarily unoriginal at all. And as long as you can only equip one part at a time, and can't switch your channeled part so fast that you can change your weakness/negate an attack used against you in the turn before, then that's one less objection I might have. On the other hand, this is a relatively complex class [though not as bad if you understand the mechanics], and that can be troublesome for a new user. I'm not sure how good I feel about a regular character having up to 4 different sets of resistances at their disposal at any given time. And the chances I let anybody other than myself and mods controlling an NPC use a Deity-level demon for anything are roughly 0.00%. Also of note is that I'm still not clear as to how you would level up, and what level of demons you start with, can reach at certain checkpoints, etc. All-in-all, this is an interesting class that would require a LOT of discussion and work to fit into the program. I place its odds of implementation currently at below average, but not totally out of the question with the right tweaks. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Great Ryoman!
Judge's Review: I think the idea is explained well, but I don't see a significant attachment to Shin Megami or Shinto lore. Then again, this competition is on creativity, and everything is suppose to have our own fresh touch too. The overall idea seems a bit complex however, and though the system sounds kind of simple, keeping track of multiple Demons, levels, what skills match up, what resistances so as to avoid getting 4 or 5 resistances that make you unstoppable, and the like lead to a bit of a mind boggling challenge compared to most of our ideas that use only 1 or 2 powers, tops. In that way it becomes like Summoners, but considering it's similar to that in it's summons and they way your resistances/attacks/beguiling tactics become different with the creature, that really makes it feel like something we have, and the fact that you're in alliance with your demon and bring it's power out in your body parts is an Atma all over again, making it lack a bit of originality in that category as well.
I think it's a nice idea with no glaring weaknesses, I don't think it really brings anything new to the table. Overall you're giving people something lackluster, and I just don't think it'll capture as much attention as we'd like, even though it is a solid idea with some fleshing. Plus, there's a distinct lack of history to the class, and where their power comes from is hardly even, if at all, mentioned leaving them as nothing more than a group to pop up from nowhere. ::Channelers:: Quote: Class Outline: ChannelersOne of the more faintly bizarre realms of power, Channelers are people who use the power of demons in a way both similar to and distinctly different from Atma or a Summoner's seal. Mostly, it's that this is an entirely willing process, and that Channelers are capable of some surprising tricks. The primary power of a Channeler is the ability to channel the power of a specific demon (from SMT canon) and morph a part of their body. Specifically, they can change either arm, their torso, their head, or their legs to the demon's corresponding part, gaining the bonuses the demon would have in that area. If an Eligor was with a Channeler, for example, the Channeler changing their torso would create armor to protect them, while shifting an arm might create armor around that arm and bring out the Eligor's sword. Changing the legs could well form the steed of the spirit beneath the user. The spirits themselves are actually possessing the Channeler, held inside their minds, but passively instead of actively. These spirits are typically content to view the world and experience it through the Channeler's body as payment for the use of their power; Channelers go through rigorous training and the nature of the partnership is such that they can kick the demons out at any time... full possessions of Channelers are unknown, and there seem to be no lasting effects from the transformations. Due to the generally rapid switch of demons and body parts, Channelers can be extremely unpredictable in combat. Things to know about Channelers:1. A Channeler can only be possessed by up to four demons at any one time; any more will strain their mind too much. 2. Demons possessing a Channeler must be from Shin Megami Tensei canon, preferably with a picture, and an explanation of the benefits of each part when transformed (i.e. if the demon holds a weapon, you get that weapon to use with their arm); each part will grant exactly one skill from the main list, and the transformation of that part must be active to use that skill. 2b. Skills should be ones the Demon knows. 3. With any transformation, the Channeler takes on the demon's elemental attributes. If no transformation is active, they have no natural resistances and no natural weaknesses. 4. The body parts that can be transformed are as follows: Head, Torso, Arm, Legs. 5. Demons cannot take over the Channeler; it's a friendly and willing partnership. 6. Because of the nature of their abilities, Channelers are typically Neutral on the scale of Law and Chaos, although some have been known to form partnerships with spirits from only one side. Thus, they can actually range the whole spectrum. 7. Channelers also tend towards preferring balance of some sort, rarely going to any extreme or joining groups with extremist ideals. 8. Channelers are only capable of switching their transformed part once each post. 8b. If an attack is launched against a Channeler in the turn before a they switch their transformed part, and it indeed hits, the attack will hit them BEFORE their change. 9. A Channeler's strength is determined by the power of the spirits possessing them; they are considered to be at the highest rank that all four of their spirits meet (i.e. if they had two 'Mid-to-High Level' demons and two 'Mid Level' demons, they would be considered at the power level of a 'Mid Level' demon. Work (typically negotiation) to acquire any demon above Mid Level must be approved by a Moderator, and you may not start with a demon above Mid level). 10. Power level of demons is *approximately* as follows: (Level by the starting level from the most recent game they appeared in; some variations may exist, inquire with a Mod if unsure) Lv. 01-30: Low Lv. 31-40: Low-to-Mid Lv. 41-60: Mid Lv. 61-70: Mid-to-High Lv. 71-80: High Lv. 81-90: Very High Lv. 91+: Deity ::Original Character [Channeler]:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: [Mods will do this.] Gaia Name: Quote: Name: [What is your character's name?] Nickname: [What does your character like to be called, or what are they called normally?] Age:Appearance: [Please use an anime or video game image. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Arena Emperor Judge's Review: I like the simplicity and novelty of this class; putting on different masks to gain different powers is almost something I could see an SMT game doing. If you took out a few of the unnecessary bits, this would be a pretty interesting and pretty easy bare-bones outline of a class that could potentially be used. However, it is still a lot like Atma-Users, and the bit about fusing with a mask or fusing a demon to a weapon seems really tacked on and unnecessary. Also adding official ranks to be climbed and having any real involvement of a council IN the town would seem like it's complicating things more than necessary. In the end, this class...though it might sound ridiculous to some...is actually pretty interesting. Parts of its description get in its own way, though. That's why the likelihood of use for this class is roughly average, or slightly below. It would require a little bit of tweaking before it could fit in nicely with the Guild. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Rednal Judge's Review: Do we really need more organizations? I mean, really? XD Aaaaanyway... multiple full transformations is... mmm... iffy, I think. I'd like to see something of a cooldown between masks, to gather their wits before completely shifting their bodies again; this is far more intrusive than a Channeler's partial form, and it has more shapes than Atma, whose users are presumably quite used to both of their forms. As with most of these class submissions, a little tweaking won't hurt this. Perhaps one mask for each rank they have? So four masks total, but the mask, once chosen, cannot be changed, which is very different from Summoners and forces you to think carefully. ::Oniman:: Quote: Class Outline:OnimanThe Oni Mask, a recognized mainstay of the Japanese Kabuki Theatre, has for an eternity held a hidden power. The Oniman are a secret society of Ki manipulators who are trained to release the powers of these ancient masks. The technique implemented is an ancient secret and cannot be replicated correctly without training. The power of any Oniman member comes from their masks. The masks are special artifacts used in exorcisms to control and capture the evil spirits. Each Oni Mask contains the spirit of a single demon [granted mass produced masks of today do not contain a spirit] that can be released to change the physical form of the user. The user channels their Ki into the masks to re-awaken the spirit within. For example if a user has the mask of an Eligor the user will be transformed into the red armored mounted spearman as long as the mask is on. For the most part Oniman members will own a multitude of masks but will only be able to carry 3 masks into battle at a time. This shape shifting allows an Oniman to switch up powers and strengths and weaknesses very quickly. To become an Oniman a user must be trained for, in some cases, years before they are even able to activate the spirit of their masks. The training of one's skill with each mask must be trained in depth for a user to become proficient. The more a user uses their masks the closer and closer they get to one of two final outcomes: Total demonic possession, or the ability to use demons to empower weapons and armor. The downside to this power is that every user slowly approaches death as their body is destroyed by the poisonous influence of the demons they become. If an Oniman member chose Demon Possession as their final path then the mask returns to its mask state and holds all of the knowledge and experiences that the user before had while using the mask. The Oniman forces are headed by the Oniman Council. The council is a small select group of Oniman users who have been passing on some of the more powerful masks known in existence from master to student since the group's creation. The Oniman have arrived in Inaba on a mission to identify and capture any demons who seem of value in empty Oni masks to increase the powers of their somewhat small ranks. Things to know about the Oniman:1. An Oniman member may only carry 3 masks into battle at once. 2. Low level users may only start with one or two masks and as they rank up they will be allowed to get more masks. 2b. Mask demons should be from the SMT universe up until the higher ranks of the organization when you will be allowed to make your own demons up [these custom demons should be okayed before implementation] 3. Oniman members can switch masks every posts, but cannot switch masks to avoid an attack. Switching masks does not count as an attack, but it can only be done once per turn [much like switching the MC's persona in P4] 4. Once a member of Oniman reaches a high enough level they can choose from the ability to infuse weapons with the souls of their demons or to become fused permanently with one of their masks making them into a demon human hybrid. 5. If an Oniman attempts to use a demon tiered above their level of strength will often result in the user being killed. For this reason grabbing a tiered up mask is completely forbidden and any tiered up masks should be handed over to the most experienced user available. 6. An Oniman's mask once being used cannot be removed by anyone except the person who put the mask on. 7. The Oniman do not follow any of the assigned roles of good and evil. The Oniman are in Inaba to seize more power and eliminate demonic threat therefore they can follow any line of reasoning they want as to why they are part of Oniman. 8. An Oniman's place on the power tier is ordained by their rank within the secretive order. 8b. Ranks are as such [highest to lowest] a: Council Member b: High Lord c: Master d: Student 8c. Students may only use Low and Low-to-Mid level Demons Masters may use Mid-to High level demons and below High Lords may use High level demons and below Council Members may use Very High Level Demons and below ::Original Character [Oniman]:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: [Mods will do this.] Gaia Name: Quote: Name: [What is your character's name?] Nickname: [What does your character like to be called, or what are they called normally?] Age: [How old is your character] Rank: [What rank within the organization is your character?] Appearance: [Please use an anime or video game image. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Arena Emperor Judge's Review: I like that this class uses an artifact to make power possible, and that the power isn't inherent to the user. That's different than most of the other classes that we have. I also like that their abilities are inherent but must be earned, though you would need to figure out a training plan as to how levels would be unlocked. On the other hand, I think the Guild is currently at its capacity of malevolent organizations, and the fact that they can know and eventually use every single skill is pretty troubling. Even though they can't use them all at once, their max power is still VERY high for a PC class, and it seems like the ability to use a summon is just tacked on for an SMT link. Also, what is the essence of the crystals? Where does the power to use the SMT skills come from in them? Overall, this is certainly one of the more interesting classes, but it needs a lot of tweaking in order to be passable. For now, I'd rather it's likelihood of use at unlikely, though it might be less so if things were fleshed out [and simplified/explained] a bit more. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Rednal Judge's Review: I don't like the Summoning bit. Classes should generally be distinct from each other (which is why I'm debating removing the Summoner's transformation; it was made before the Atma powers were put up), and that's a little too similar to something we already have... both normal Summoners and COMPs, all things considered. Stick with one core concept. What I think could be done to improve this class is make them fairly weak in terms of resistances and the like to balance out being able to use basically any skill... a glass cannon, basically. Low stats and/or poor resistances (two weaknesses, no strengths, and unable to equip shards for elemental resistances) would help prevent these from being overpowered. So, yes. More tweaking, I think. ^^ ::Shard Casters:: Quote: Class Outline: Shard CastersOf the many powered races and organizations Paradigm is one of least known, having kept itself hidden for only one reason. There was formerly no need for them to surface. Due to the nature of their power, petty world wars and crimes were below their calling, and for fear of abuse they kept their powers and agents hidden until the supernatural events at Inaba began. Having noticed their need to rise overcoming the risk of their exposure they dispatched agents and paragons to possibly battle the threat, and train others to do the same. Agents of the Paradigm, known as Shard Casters, are a host to a unique power though the medium for it varies from host to host. The Shard Casters power comes from a symbiotic bond between them and a discovered living bio-metal. Once a potential host is exposed to the Bio-Metal it either accepts or rejects the host. If the host is rejected then they are unsuitable to become a shardcaster, but if it accepts the host it binds itself into a chosen part of their body becoming a series of rings and spherical slots seemingly dug into their flesh. Despite what you would think the attachment process is painless, and after it's complete the Shard Caster is capable of selecting shards. When certain Shards are inserted into the slots of the Bio-Metal attachment the user can channel the ability from it by touching the shard. Another Facet of the Shards power is that it can be fused into any sort of weapon to temporarily imbue the weapon with the shards power. The most powerful of shardcasters can actually harness the power of supernatural beings, focusing them into a shard to be used when they are called. Things to know about Shard Casters:1. They are a very versatile class, but also very limited because of it. 2. Though they can learn every technique available they have less total available abilities to draw from. 3. Shardcasters level differently than other classes, typically taking longer to advance, but because of this will tend to be stronger than other classes initially. Quote: Shard Caster ShardsShards are formed from all of the skills in the SMT universe. A Shardcaster owns all shards for every technique inherently but until they are trained to use them they cannot equip all of them. A base Level Shard caster can equip any 3 shards of weak to medium level but can only ever have 3 equipped at a time. A second level can have 6 weak to medium, a third can have 9 (3 high, 6 weak to medium) a fourth level can have 12 (3 very high, 3 high, 6 weak to medium) and finally a fifth level can have 15 (3 severe, 3 very high, 3 high, 6 weak to medium) At level four a shardcaster can take on a summon shard which is embodied by a creature they harness similar to persona, except that a shardcasters summon is capable of dieing without harming the shardcaster, though a shardcaster that loses their summon is known to be broken as they can no longer reach level 5 and can never harness a summon again. Summons are just a partner in battle and have all the same abilities that their summoners have. ::Original Character [Shard Caster]:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: [Mods will do this.] Gaia Name: Quote: Name: [What is your character's name?] Nickname: [What does your character like to be called, or what are they called normally?] Age:Appearance: [Please use an anime or video game image. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Arena Emperor Judge's Review: The nice thing about this class is its simplicity. It takes an existing class and simply evolves its power into something different, and it gives persona-users another path to pursue aside from simply leveling up theirS. Links. On the other hand, these are pretty much the same as Atma-Users and Summoners' Demon Forms with little difference between them. I'm not sure every class should have a transformation option. Because it's simple and interesting, though, I would rate this as unlikely to be used, but very possible with very little change to the class needed if we decided we wanted to use it. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Rednal Judge's Review: It's basically Atma. Powers should generally be distinct from each other, and this is way too similar to something we already have. Interesting though it might be, I just don't think we really need this. ^^; Persona should stay Persona, and not become transformations. Sorry. ::True Soul Persona Users:: Quote: Class Outline: True Soul Persona UsersTrue Soul Persona Users are not unlike regular Persona users of the Investigation Team, Except True Soul Users hold a closer spiritual link with their Persona. This stronger link causes a direct physical connection between the User and the Persona itself, although when summoned, the Persona does not manifest above the User as a normal Persona does. Rather, the User themselves takes on both the physical appearance and abilities of the Persona. So instead of becoming a weapon, the Persona acts more like a suit of armor. Things to Know About True Soul Persona Users1. True Soul users take on the image and skills of their Persona while still retaining their own facial looks. 2. Body size may or may not change depending on the User's Persona. 3. The Persona form can not be held indefinitely, the allotted time varies with both experience with the power as well as actions, damage and skills used. 4. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Rednal Judge's Review: Very complete, very solid idea, I think. Considering their nature, I think a power cap of 5th-6th Tier is about right (for the strongest items), but otherwise I really don't see much wrong with this. In fact, I have a character idea already. Provides an alternative to COMPs fairly consistent with supernatural lore, too. I approve. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Arena Emperor Judge's Review: [Pros] Well fleshed out, interesting, and as noted in the other review, a pretty interesting alternative to COMPs. [Cons] Wordy name. Like Shomonkai, it tends to tie the tongue. Obtaining the items would need to be somewhat regulated, too. I'm not sure whether or not one guy walking around with them is the best choice for that, though... [Verdict] In the words of the McManus Brothers, it was 'very well done'. ::Tsukumogami::
Quote: Class Outline: Tsukumogami --Tsukumogami, or Demon Objects, are items possessed by a spirit from the Dark Realm that attempted to cross over but could not find a host. Instead they were locked within an inanimate object and over time the object itself began to absorb their powers until the object itself became a demon, giving rise to most legends of possessed objects. Because demons are drawn to items with significance and emotional attachments, very commonly they would reside inside of treasured items like vases and gifts, or because of the exceptional power of hatred, the most common type were weapons such as swords and guns. The Tsukumogami is not made of an existing demon, but instead is a wholly unique weapon given demonic powers after suppressing the creature inside of it, so instead of the 'Spirit Cu Chulainn', a possessor would own the Gai Bolg, much like Minato Arisato's abilities to compress demons into objects for battle. Because the Human World is bereft of dark energy Tsukumogami lay dormant, sometimes for hundreds of years until it's demonic energy is spent and it becomes a normal item completely. In Inaba however, the rise of supernatural power has awakened many of the thirsty demonic weapons, though there is hardly organization behind their ownership. A high school girl inheriting a doll from her grandmother may unknowingly possess one of the items, or a collector may find himself in possession of a demon blade, leaving the monitoring of the items to whoever chooses to keep them out of the hands of evil or to gather them for vile purposes. Ironically the strong emotional attachment which awakens their powers, is often the reason one needs to use the item as well. A girl inheriting the doll might have learned to protect the weak from their grandmother, and will thus find themselves using the item for their loved one to fulfill their wish of guarding peace. The possessed item's form usually, but not always, has to do with the emotional attachment one has. A doll is often a sign of a loved one and the owner is someone who wants to protect their family, while a blade might be a sign of a murderer, because it possesses the hate and anger that created it, or the resentment of those who were killed by it. That's not always the case though...a gun could still retain the previous owner's will to protect humans, or a family trinket could possess one's selfish desires, and lust for greater things, making it a dangerous possession instead. Some people even attempt to possess items of opposite temperaments, such as a policeman keeping a demon blade to stop it from falling into the wrong hands. If the person's will is stronger it's possible, but the weapon will seek a moment of weakness to become the dominant will, turning the human into the one who obeys. The thing to understand about the Tsukumogami is that the item holds demonic power, and does not summon a creature to use skills or pour it's power into the person itself. Though a person can persuade the weapon to use some skills through them, or on them, it is the demon itself and when removed from a person, they no longer have any power. When held by someone who does possess power, like a Summoner or Persona User, it simply becomes a leech on their dark energy and will not respond to their demands, like a parasite. Finally, the item cannot interact with a COMP-user because summoning and demonic energy all use blood; sort of like a contract, people contain a small bit of dark energy in their blood that can only be bound to one service, which seals off other demons from the user. Unlike Summoners who possess a unique bloodline that does not possess this drawback, a COMP user or owner of a Tsukumogami are ordinary humans, and thus can only dedicate themselves to one item or the other, with the device rejecting all others without the person's knowledge. Things to Know About Tsukumogami1. Tsukumogami at first can only use weapon skills like Summoner's demons, such as Pyro Blade or Force(Wind) Bullet, or supporting skills like Media or Tsukukaja, but not skills like Agilao. They start out using only low and Mid level skills, and physical skills aren't limited. 2. Tsukumogami get stronger through emotions, with strong protective items getting more powerful through 'bonds', or a person's established Social Links. Demon weapons get stronger from fighting as well, due to their thirst for dark energy. Finally, when both have reached a significant level the weapon can either partially lend it's powers to, or possess the user, allowing them to use it's power through them to unlock skills such as 'Agilao' or others talents that the item itself couldn't possess. 3. Because they grew from absorbing demons, and exist by feeding on supernatural energy that they've been gaining for hundreds of years, Tsukumogami have very slow growth and can only augment this through excessive 'bond'ing or feeding, but still find themselves lacking the overall strength of Personas or real Demons used by Summoners. The ability to access many talents based on the user's emotions, and their strengths and friends however work to offset this, taking a more jack-of-all-trade approach. 4. Tsukumogami weren't an organization, because they were such sparse items of legend, and no owner could know they held the supernatural items until they discovered their powers. There is a Police Officer named Hidehiko who works in Inaba though who collects items rumored to have supernatural powers, and though some call him superstitious he insists he wants to keep them from falling into the wrong hands, especially here in disaster torn Inaba. ::Original Character [Tsukumogami]:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: [Mods will do this.] Gaia Name: Quote: Name: [What is your character's name?] Nickname: [What does your character like to be called, or what are they called normally?] Age:Appearance: [Please use an anime or video game image. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Rednal Judge's Review: Time for a lesson on SMT lore, I think. XD Gods =/= Deity =/= God (Except in one case). That is, many of the spirits of SMT lore are, in fact, deities of some sort. Thor, for example, or Loki. But they are not "Deity" ranked entities like, say, King Abaddon or Nyx or Izanami. We tend to keep really close tabs on who qualifies for that level of acknowledgment; it's typically Final/Ultimate Bosses, and people shouldn't be inventing them and channeling their power, really. Lesser spirits, sure, but not the true top-tier basically-undefeatable entities. That, and we have "Atma Avatars", so the name is way too similar. I do admire the thought you've put into this class, however; at least you're obviously putting thought into how they *should* be, and I can totally respect that. I need more information on how they level up, though. What's their maximum tier? Exactly how to they get there? More info on skill gain, limits, and usage. How MANY skills do they get? We need more details on use before this can really be worked into the Guild. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Arena Emperor Judge's Review: [Pros] Creative, I love the blend of Shinto into a power, and I kind of like the idea that there are deities out there that don't want to kill humanity [but take a more passive role in their defense]. [Cons] Needs expanded upon a bit more. Avatars, if there is a naming snafu with them, might want to find a new title. And it needs to be clear that while the entities would be 'deities' of an incredibly high level, they have no physical form and would not influence things directly as a Deity-level Demon might. [Verdict] Not bad. Lot of thought went into this and it's pretty interesting, but it would need to fleshed out more. I certainly don't think you need a lesson in lore, at the very least... ::Avatars::
Quote: Class Outline: Avatars --The Avatars can best be related to the Shinto idea of gods in everything, or the land guardians of old. In places where supernatural energy accumulates, this energy formed into deities, who watched over the land and area as Spirit Guardians, including areas like Inaba in the midst of the woods, as well as populated areas like Tokyo where reverence was replaced with deep emotions, both fuel for Demons and Deities. For a long time monks and priests, or people who dedicated themselves to caring for nature or humans gave power to the land and in turn the Guardians chose them as Avatars, forming a symbiotic relationship. An Avatar is that combination, a person who has sworn to protect the natural order of things and protect the land from Demons and supernatural creatures, and the creature attached to the land that makes its power tangible through the user, allowing them to awaken and use skills to defend the world. Some notable guardians are ones like Bishamonten, and the other 3 guardians of direction who watch over Japan as a whole, whose ideologies are to protect order and stop an imbalance from forming due to Demons. Spirit Guardians lend their power to Avatars by choosing a person in particular, and surrendering a fraction of their power to them. Though this power is only a small portion however, the creatures are Deity class and thus this still gives them considerable power, and the Guardian is henceforth bound to that one person until they abandon them or fulfill the contract. After that an Avatar's power is left up to their own abilities, and if the two faithfully work to meet the agreement and grow stronger, they can awaken more of the Spirit's power allowing them to use more high level skills; on the other hand, if a person fails to grow stronger or dies, the Deity is not harmed and is separated once again, though because it takes great power to lend their aid to a person they become incapable of helping again for a time, and because the two were stabilizing peace in the Deity's area in the first place, it leaves them vulnerable to continue being weakened or even destroyed. One of the most notable points is that the Avatar's Deity is bound to the Earth, and sometimes even a specific thing such as a 100-year old tree, meaning that reckless destruction can continue to diminish their power, though when bound to a person the Avatar becomes their source of life, making their combined relationship extremely steadfast. The Deities personalities are as different from humans as one can imagine, but often they are very amiable, loving the virtuous Avatar and working with them together as friends, though spirits of war or other facets can just as well be excitable and loud, rather than calm and smooth talking. The Avatar manifests the power of the Deity themselves, and use the powers from their own body like the Spirit who is the source of their power, making them appear much graceful and surreal than some other supernatural users like Summoners or Persona Users. The Avatar must use a weapon like the Deity to channel the skill if for example, a servant of Bishamonten (the spear user) wishes to use the Spirit's mastery of the weapon, but actual skills and spells come from the Avatar themselves, their souls now intermingled with their guardian. Because the source of their power is a Spirit that possesses enough energy to rarely interact with humans and who usually act detached from the errors of towns and cities like Inaba and Tokyo, an Avatar has a much higher level of power than most other classes, reaching amongst the highest Tiers that a PC character can reach. On the other hand it is much more difficult to win the acceptance of a Deity; in fact, nearly impossible, as most Kuzunoha or Devil Summoners could tell you in an instant. As such Avatars have a special place in between the Dark Realm and the light, the humans and Demons, and though it takes a significant amount of faith and power to earn the trust of such high level Spirits, the return is obviously significantly higher than normal. Things to Know About Avatars1. Avatars glow with Demon's energy when using skills, but they do NOT change form, materialize weapons, etc. They use the powers of these creatures in human form, as a focus for the fragment of the Deity's power. 2. Avatar's level up the slowest, but in return can draw on a High Level Spirit's power when done to be one of the strongest. 3. Deities have numerous outlooks on humans, some seeing us as poison while others wish for our benefit. Though they do not work together, leaving no organization to their group, some Spirits are going to be more rueful and can even wish for the destruction of society. While benevolent Deities may attach themselves to those pure of heart, a wrathful god can just as well attach itself to an evil person, allowing them to be good or evil. The Spirits are equally wary of humans however, and thus all must meet the same requirements to unlock more power. ::Original Character [Avatars]:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: [Mods will do this.] Gaia Name: Quote: Name: [What is your character's name?] Nickname: [What does your character like to be called, or what are they called normally?] Age:Appearance: [Please use an anime or video game image. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Rednal Judge's Review: Uh, honestly? I think the Yatagarasu would get pretty testy if told they couldn't handle a situation or needed help... like, seriously. XD If the Four Great Summoners can't handle a situation, everyone else is probably screwed. At the same time, I'm not sure I'd agree with giving them authority over the Crows, and possibly over the Embryon as well... both groups are heavily implied to have unusual permissions (for example, the way Raidou the XIX openly carries weapons when such things are NOT normally allowed). If a Government Agent told Raidou she couldn't go where she wanted and do what she wanted, she'd pummel them until they changed their mind. Seriously. Note specifically how long the powers last, too, so there's really a set duration for people... and that'll put a decent limit on what's otherwise a boosting much heavier than is usually done. Technology is rarely as good as inherent abilities, after all, and it should show to help make this class very distinct. Quote: Judge Reviewing: Great Ryoman!
Judge's Review: The idea has the originality to set it apart from our current classes and the ties to Shin Megami Tensei lore to make it feasible and instantly usable. If you look at Shin Megami Tensei lore overall, the JSSDF has dealt with more gods, demons and associated apocalypses than any of our related heroes, Devil Summoners included, combined. To think that eventually they'd develop a force capable of dealing with the situations makes sense, they've been hinted at previously in the guild, there is enough power in the guild to be combined into their new devices (Harmonizers and demons, oh my!), because they're not off the grid like Summoners they would give orders to the few individuals like Raidou who would have nothing on an army force, and yet they don't possess enough power individually to solve cases like our other government-associated branches since the idea is to keep it low-key. Overall the creativity is refreshing, it would keep in line other unruly groups who seem to have misjudged their places in Shin Megami Tensei lore, and it would provide new branches for both the story and guild members overall, letting people do things like defend the barricade, or keep tabs on others with some real meaning.
The drawbacks lie in the fact that they possess no real power of their own, and devices tend to have a habit of being stolen or destroyed, depowered or detrimental in some fashion. Unlike say, COMPs it's not buyable at a convenience store, and they strike surprising similarities to both Yatagarasu and Embryon in terms of organization and mission, with almost no variation on their objective at all apart from stopping travel into/out of Inaba. So while they rule the fresh ideas of power standpoint, their goals and existence lack a bit of breakout that the other classes do, making my two-part rating system (Powers and Ideology) turn this one into a +10 and +4, more or less, though as my only "+10" on power's originality it's overall still very emasculating to certain...other...class ideas. -Original Class- ::JSSDF Supernatural Response and Containment Force:: Quote: Class Outline: JSSDF Supernatural Response and Containment Force --The Japanese Strategic Self-Defense Force is the highly-trained special branch of the government which is used to put down internal threats to the well-being of Japan. And within the JSSDF there is a special branch known as the Supernatural Response and Containment Force [SRCF] which focus on locating, preventing the spread of, and eliminating threats that are considered abnormal or even supernatural. Unlike other branches, the SRCF is aware of the existence of demons, Atma-Users, and Summoners, and are used as a last line of defense when the former are either incapable of putting down/containing a situation or when the government wants to aid them in that task. Enlisting humans from a young age and raising them with the knowledge of this unusual war, they do not have powers themselves but benefit from research into the supernatural by the top scientists in the employ of the Japanese Government. Using specially designed weapons and Harmonizer technology to interact with their enemies, JSSDF Members are able to fight with supernatural enemies without ever taking any supernatural entity into their own bodies, albeit not on as high a level as the strongest of supernatural fighters. Their strength is based in their technology and training, though the technology itself is based on extracting energy from supernatural beings captured by the Embryon or Yatagarasu and planting it into an item with the Harmonizer technology built in. This particular group of the JSSDF has been put in charge of maintaining the barrier around the city and enforcing the lockdown, putting down anyone at this point who attempts to breach containment. They aren't many, but they are extremely well-trained and are practically unrivaled in their area of specialization. Where Embryon and the Summoners seem to be failing, they won't. Or so the thinking goes... Things to Know About the JSSDF SRCF1. The JSSDF Supernatural Response and Containment Forces are a wing of the Japanese Homeland Defense division which contain the growth of and combat supernatural threats inside the Japanese mainland. They are trained from as early an age as they can be brought in to fight, and have a comprehensive knowledge of the known supernatural [Atma-Users, Summoners, past incidents]. 2. Members of this squad are assigned to prevent anyone, supernatural or not, from exiting the town of Inaba past the lockdown barricade. They are authorized to use whatever means necessary to do this, and are often found at the Yasoinaba Station. They are given higher priority in rank than either Summoners or Embryon, as they receive their directives straight from the top of the government food chain and are said to act only in the best interest of the nation of Japan. 3. Despite being knowledgeable about the supernatural, they do not have any natural powers themselves aside from top-shelf training with and against the supernatural. Their ability to combat the supernatural on even footing comes from an item on their person at all times, which utilizes Harmonizer technology to allow interaction with the supernatural. 4. The item carried with a member can be anything, but usually is small and insignificant looking [so as not to draw attention to itself]. Inside of the item can be found a small Harmonizer and a power core containing the energy siphoned from captured spirits or demons, then condensed over a long period of time. This item will provide the user with 6-8 powerful abilities, but NONE of them may be magical attacks. They are simply physical augmentation or defense augmentation to raise the user's combat capability. 5. These members can fight using this power for extended periods of time without suffering excess fatigue or power loss because the power is not contained within their own body. However they will still suffer from normal fatigue for a highly-trained soldier, and they cannot continue to use their item forever without a recharge. 6. These members use powerful weapons including guns and high-tech hand-to-hand weaponry. 7. While they are known to follow orders to the letter in order to protect the country of Japan, they are not completely mindless drones. On occasion, a member has been known to act out of line when something contradicted what they knew or believed to be best for Japan. They do pay high respect to their internal chain of command, though. Though the highest ranks rarely interact with anyone below Lieutenant outside of briefing. [Ranks are similar to Embryon] 8. JSSDF members are often on watch at the Yasoinaba Station or another checkpoint on the blockade around the city. When they are off duty, however, they are free to venture inside the city and spend their time as they please...though they are always on call, and themselves cannot leave the city. ::Original Character:: Quote: Gaia Avatar: -- Gaia Name: -- Quote: Name: Nicknames:Age: Appearance: JSSDF Unit: Supernatural Containment and Counter-Force Squadron Position: [Sniper, Infantry, Intelligence, Etc.] Rank: [Ensign, Major, Lieutenant, Captain] Love Interest: Bio: Quote: Mayonaka TV World DataWeapon: Fighting Style: Arcana: Persona Name: Shadow: Shadow World: Quote: Personae Skills:6-8 Skills, Low-to-High Level, can only be physical or support [not healing, curing] in nature.
