Mashaka rose from his sleeping place. He was slowly getting used to this new home of his. It was strange there was so many rules and ways that Mashaka wasn't sure he understood but he was trying his hardest.
Mashaka had joined the pride with one dark princess in mind but since he had joined he was to young to see the female they had to be kept seperate because of there ages but now he was an adult an he hoped that she would come looking soon for a father to give er cubs. As that was how it worked here he understood
Kim'acha, Gin Matsuba and Onalim, her siblings, all gone. Even her own mother, whom Kissy had so loved and respected, was gone. Most of her cousins were also gone. She wished she could hate them the way she hated her shameful father, but she loved them too much for that.
Though the sun was starting to rise, twilight ruled beneath the dense canopy where Kissy, now fully grown and even larger than her mother, wandered aimlessly, trying to shake off the ghosts that haunted her dreams, a shadow among shadows. She was moving toward the edge of the male’s territory. As a cub she looked forward to starting a family. Now that she was of child-bearing age she wondered if she would ever take a male for a mate. In going to see the males, she wanted only to remind herself of her place in her pride by showing herself that she was not the lowest of the low.

Mashaka moved through the males territory nodding to the few males that he had gotten to know. He had become more proud of his purple pelt since being her, he had always thought that it made him special but now others thought that too. Mashaka moved towards a stream that ran through the males territory and bowed his head to take a long gulp of water. From the top of his vision he saw something black move into his line of sight and he lifted his head right away... could it be her. He was happy to see it was infact Kissy, he wanted to gallop over to her but he knew better, that would be wrong, she had to talk to him first. Instead the large purple lion purposely moved himself so he would fall right into the female's sight.
Why even try to start a family? Everyone seemed to leave eventually. They left even though they knew – or should have known – that by leaving they did themselves a terrible dishonor and would certainly be born into a pitiful status in the next life. Eventually the sound of running water brought her out of her thoughts. She had been walking since before the dawn without so much as a sip of water but only now did she recognize her thirst. As she emerged from the dense jungle, something large and bright caught Kissy’s eye.
And he was staring right at her. Flicking her tail like a whip, Kissy ignored the brightly colored male and bent for a drink, hoping he would move off. Finally she licked her lips and lifted her head again. The male was still there, but this time there was something familiar about him. As she studied him the fur on her back started to stand. No. It couldn’t be. What was his name?
“Mashaka… you came?” Her voice was very quiet. She never actually believed he would keep his promise.

Mashaka bowed to the dark female, something he hoped she would like, "Yes" he said in a low voice, "I tried hard to get back, here I have been here for a little while but they told me I could not see you till you were an adult." He nodded his head as he said the last part, he was sure that she knew the rule, but he found himself wanted her to know that he was trying to learn the ways. "You have gotten quite beautiful as you have grown." Mashaka said, paying the female a compliment. He knew that the pride valued color but Mashaka did see something striking in the black pelt the Kissy had. He kept his body low as he spoke to her.
Kissy flattened her ears. Hardened by loss, she was skeptical of this male, this outsider who pretended to be parastar. “So… you’ve been here all this time, waiting for the day you would see me again. If you truly are one of us then you must know that only I can decide who will have my cubs. Just because you are here doesn’t mean I will choose you.”
Despite what she said, Kissy was not entirely bitter. She was too strong to give herself up to total apathy. Mashaka was quite colorful. If she wanted to be picky she could have to wait a long time to find a male more colorful than Mashaka not already claimed by a higher ranking female, but to mate with a former rogue was risky. She would not mate with a male that did not understand his place in the pride.

Mashaka bowed his head, "I know that you get to chose, and I do not expect you to chose me, I just came and hoped to see you again." Mashaka stayed in his low position, he knew that it wasn't his place to say he wanted to sire her cubs, though he did want to. He couldn't explain why he felt the way he did about Kissy but something drew him to her... this was not a feeling that he had ever had before. "Is there anything I can do to help you today my lady?" he asked in a slow soft whisper.
Deep down Kissy wanted him to screw up. She wanted him to validate her belief that males could never be as good and honorable as females. She glared at him for a moment and searched his expression, expecting to find a horde of lies behind his face, a good excuse to reject him and bide her time until she could find a better male.
“What makes you think you’re good enough for me? Is it because of my rank?” she demanded coarsely, flicking her tail.

Mashaka frowned, he was confused he couldn't understand why she was reponding this way. It was true that he hadn't interacted with a female since he came to the pride but from what the other males had told him he was fairly sure that he was doing it right, he kept a low stance even though he would have been able to easily tower over her, even though she was a big lioness... one of the bigest ones he had seen really, his voice was hushed and he spoke in a soft tone, he was doing everything right he thought. "I .... I ....." he stuttered not really sure what to say, "I don't think that I am good enough for you, I just wanted to aid you in any way I could, that is my role her, I am a male and there for I am here to serve the females, and I would like very much if I would be able to serve you." I bowed lower then he had been.
Now Kissy crossed the shallow stream. She stood over him, her massive paws only a few inches from his nose. Her father was half-Firekin. Although she had no way of knowing about that pride, she had inherited the size that the desert pride was famous for. Perhaps she had inherited their tenacity as well. She lorded over him, her shadow pinning him down like an extension of her black body.
“That’s exactly right, Mashaka,” she whispered. “You don’t deserve me. No male deserves me. You and all your kind are nothing but filthy, sinful creatures. Even as a shikar-i my soul is a thousand times more pure than you. There is nothing you could ever do to deserve me – nothing. The only reason you are here is so you can father cubs. That is all. Until the day you die you will never be worth half as much as your daughters, even if they are as dark as me. Do you understand?”
She would break him, expose him as a fraud. There was no way an outsider would let a female talk about him this way.

Mashaka moved as she came towards him so that he was so low that his chin was sitting on the growned as was his stomach, it was less of a bow now, more of a laying position with his head stretched out in front of him, his paws streched foward even further, he could barely see her as she approached him, in fact all that he could see was her large black nose right in front of his face, he did his best not to quiver with nerves he didn't want to appear weak. He found himself speachless as the female spoke to him, he felt a small urge inside of him wanting to speek against her, but at the same time he knew that he joined this pride and now he had to live by there ways even if it meant going against what he might have orginally felt. "I do understand my lady." he said in a soft whisper. "I do not think of you as low, I feel that you hold some sort of magic, and I can't even come close to understanding the magic yours soul holds." he hoped that his words were what she wanted to hear.
Kissy blinked at him. Then she shook her head and stepped over him as if he was a log. She looked back at him, her expression unreadable. She resented him for submitting to her the way a true parastar would. That may have proved her wrong, but she wouldn’t give up her position so easily.
After a pause, one that to Mashaka may have seemed to last an eternity, she turned to face him and sat down by the stream. “So you came back. What did your mother say when you told her where you were going?” She regarded him critically, still searching for flaws.

Mashaka watched the lioness move back and forth, it was hard for him to sit there and wonder what she was going to stay next, to find out if he had said the right thing or not. When she sat down he watched her studying her face, finding new beauty in it then he had known existed, he did find it odd on some level that he was attracted to her in such a strong way when he was in a pride that surronded him with such beauty. When her question came to him, he sat there for a long time thinking about the day that he had told his mother that he was going to leave. It was a hard conversation, although Mizu wasn't Mashaka's real mother it was he had come to see her that way and it broke his heart to have to tell her goodbye. "She wished me luck, she was sad but she knew that the home she had brought me to wasn't my real home, and that I needed to find where I really belonged. She knew that I was coming here, and she knew that this is where I wanted to be. I love her still, but I know she is well loved now, she has cubs of her own now that are keeping her busy." he felt tears welling up in his eyes thinking about his mother.
She felt no sympathy towards Mashaka. In fact she felt more sorry for his mother. At least he had the decency to say goodbye. That was something. “And you’re sure this is where you belong, because I’m here,” she said, obviously skeptical.
Kissy wasn’t like rogue females who believed in love between the sexes. Her grandmother seemed to have a steady relationship with her mate, but that was because Kissy’s grandfather was the perfect parastar. Except for her grandfather’s stutter, Mashaka reminded her a little bit of him. Mashaka seemed sensitive and obedient. She thought he was foolish to love her but maybe she could use that to her advantage. Then again, love never stopped her mother from leaving.
Before he could say anything in reply she stood and turned toward the stream. “Alright, I’ll think about it. In the mean time you can come with me. I don’t want to lose you to a ghast while I’m deciding.”

Mashaka rose to his feet careful to keep low to the ground so that she stood taller then him, even though he was the taller of the two, he felt that it was important to make sure that he looked inferior to him. Mashaka was excited to be going towards the lands where the females lived, he had never seen them of course and he felt that it was a sacrid place to go. He would have to be careful of what he did, and the way he acted, he knew he would be under a closer eye in the lands of the females, and he wanted to make sure he wouldn't do anything to embaress Kissy.
