I give you the beginning of another custom scroll, this time for a Champion. This is the illuminated later that will don it
User Image

I also give you an update. I am still working three jobs, while taking two days a week off for physio; I fubar'd yet another tendon in my right foot. The hubby is working for a security company in the Wack (next town over from us), but his schedule has a habit of changing from day to day and because I am still on call, the hours he is able to work are limited. We are JUST making ends meet, thanks to my being on EI, I am classified as underemployed (yeah, having three jobs wasn't a big enough hint razz ).

On top of all this work stuff, I am a GameMaster in charge of Logistics for an online game (Underlight:Shades of Truth), active in the SCA, trying to get my Etsy shop stocked up AND stay sane enough to not make the hubby want to kill me 4laugh

So that is the update. I know I said I would try and be around and I get that promise as well as a politician SO I am giving it again twisted

Hugs all 'round

You know Chillywick! Where the drugs come from! XD

Is it where you live that you are having so much trouble finding full time employment in schools? Is it dependant on how many years of experience you have, or your seniority at just one place? Several of my peers became school teachers, and their fb status lately have been either worrying about their jobs because of cut backs, or sighs of relief for making it =

And your zombie is so not one of the drooling masses; that is totally a master of zombies right there! Perhaps Puppet Master of le zombeh hoard? biggrin

My first batch of herbal beads, made from roses. I am SOOOOO proud of these! I will be making more in the future. The rose scent is REALLY light so some of them will be treated with rose essential oil.

And here is one of the other parts of the scroll. It has to be written up before I can paint it.

Wonderful!

Are you going to try and make some black rose beads some time? I'd love to try that one day. Man I wish I still lived at my old house, with all our rose bushes =(

I hope too, just not for a bit as I don't have a cast iron frying pan. I will be making another batch of the non-black ones soon smile

Submission for the charter contest at Tir Righ Coronet (in absentia). Inspired by the Cantigas de Santa Maria, 13th century Galician-Portuguese songs and illumination. Apparently HRH Prince Ieuan liked it, as did Mistress Kate. I am deeply humbled.

The wording being submitted with it is:

"Songs of great deeds resound through our fair kingdom. A new song telling of your works has been heard far and wide. So pleased are we, (Their Royal Majesties or Highnesses), that we seek to add a new verse to your song, by presenting you, (recipient), with a/n (Silver Pillar or Etoile D'Argent). May your melody continue to grow and enrich our kingdom."

The award may be changed as desired by the Royals.

The wording was admired by HRH Princess Gwyneth.

This is the FB post that started it all Zathy.

Ingredients
½ cup Herb leaves or flowers fresh or dried
Water if using dried material
All-purpose flour
15 drops Essential oil to match or complement the herb

Strip off leaves or petals and discard stems and other coarse or nonaromatic parts.

Puree fresh plant material in a food processor, blender, or old-fashioned meat grinder.

A food processor breaks down herbs faster than any other method and can be used to finish blending the dough as well.

You can finely mince the herbs with a sharp knife instead, but the finished beads will be coarser than those made from a puree or powder.

Process dried herb leaves or flower petals in a blender or spice mill, or rub the leaves across the bottom of a fine-mesh sieve until you have a fairly uniform powder. Unless plant material is processed into a fine powder or smooth pulp, coarse beads will result.

Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of flour to the plant material, and enough water, starting with 1 tablespoon (if using dried herbs), to make a smooth dough. These are approximate amounts; you'll need more flour if you're starting with a soupy puree, and more water if the herb powder is very dry.

When blended, the dough should be the consistency of children's craft clay. If it seems too soft, add flour in small amounts to improve it; if too stiff, add a little water; if too coarse or crumbly, try adding both flour and water until the dough is workable. Don't add essential oil yet; it evaporates too quickly during the blending.

Pinch off bits of dough and roll them into beads between your palms, or roll a long "snake" (this always brings back memories of my childhood) and slice off uniform lengths, then shape them into beads. Work with a light touch and keep your hands clean to prevent the dough from sticking to them. Essential oil can be added at this point, or after the beads are dry.

When sizing the beads, remember that they will shrink a bit as they dry. String the beads using a large darning needle and heavy carpet thread. Leave at least 6 inches of thread bare to allow room for sliding the beads as they dry. Tie a big knot or a button at the end to keep the beads from sliding off. Hang strings of beads to dry in a warm, airy place away from direct light and heat.

Drying take three to four days, depending on weather and bead size. Slide the beads up and down the string periodically to keep them from sticking to the string or each other.

Store dried beads in an airtight container to preserve their scent until you're ready to assemble a necklace. String the beads with beading thread or dental floss for strength and durability.

The finished scroll smile I did and came up with everything but the actual calligraphy, which was done by my lovely friend Mellissa.

It was inspired by the map that Sir Francis Drake used to circumnavigate the earth, and the recipients name (Warwick Drakkar).
