I my eyes all instruments are important but it gets on my nerves when people think we're useless!!!! We're like the icing on the cake or the glue in the wooden piramid!!!! 4laugh What the heck do you think they would do without us?!?

They would throw a fit at the fact that balance is no longer in the band and the trumpets are overpowering everybody?

I must admit, I do enjoy the french horn. But, my schools band has none... But we get along just fine. I'm not saying that the french horns are useless, every instrument can be replaced and have it's part played by something else. Except maybe the oboe, if you can actually play it. However, I have yet to meet anyone who could play the oboe with any matter of skill.

Ha! Whenever the oboes come near, Mira (My best band buddy) and I say "Screechy Screechy Screechy!" In our highest pitched voice... it is hilarious!

It would be nice if we had more than just three French horns in my band. sad We used to have like five or six in past years, but it's been diminished so much. Needless to say, our orchestra director is sad that there's not enough horns to even fit all the parts, more so than the band director.
Now it's all up to the trombones and trumpets to think horny thoughts to fill the void~ xp

Well, there's not really a huge difference in my band. 5 french horns, only one played. When she missed, there was just no 4-measure solo in the second number. The french horn music didn't really have a lot of parts. Besides the finales for each number... I don't know that there even was a part.

As long as they're good players its all good. I'm a horn player, and to be honest I'd rather there be no horns than a bunch of bad ones. Dear god some of the horns in our school need to learn how to blend and tune!!
