.:Who she was; Who she is:.
The fae’s ashes that gave birth to Achara was known as the Grim Reaper of the Fae world. Her abilities were given to her when the population was beginning to grow unstable. It was clear that balance was not being maintained. So the earth dawned upon her the task of bringing an end to those who’s time had come. Her touch could make any living thing begin to wither and rot; returning them to the earth once more. Though she would be able to take any life at anytime, she decided to only take those whose time of departure had arrived. The girl aged slowly because of her ability, and through out the years the other Fae shunned her.
One night an ill willed person came upon her, and took her life. At this point that person obtained her power. It became so overwhelming, and their mind could not handle the strain. They took their own life, and by doing so the power was lost. It wandered for years until it found the ashes of its original owner. Its desire to be tangible once more was so strong, that it bonded with the ashes. This formed Achara’s egg.

Leah never liked funerals. They were full of people who were dishonest, and only there for appearances. All the condolences they gave were empty, as chances are they never really cared about how any other specific person felt. People wanted to see if they were in the will, to see if they were getting a piece of the pie.
Leah made her way through the crowd to the stairs. She noticed many different kinds of looks as she passed, but didn’t care about the meaning behind them. As her hand touched the antique railing, her heart skipped a beat and she felt a lump in her throat. ‘Not infront of them, I won’t let them have the satisfaction,’ she thought as she slowly made her way to the next floor.
There wasn’t really anyone on the second floor, and this relieved Leah. She was tired of dealing with all the fakers and liars. She now stood before a large heavy door with a skeleton key lock. Ruffling through her pocket she found the key, inserted it into the hole and turned. This was the one spot she could truly be alone, where she could finally just be herself. The attic.
The stairway was narrow, but not uncomfortably so. The top opened up to a large space which was filled with the history her grandmother had left behind. Trunks, boxes, sewing manequinnes, mirrors, and a lot of dust. There was some old furniture that her grandmother decided to keep, but wasn’t in style with the rest of the house. Leah sat in one of the old lionclaw chairs and stared blankly at the opposite wall. It still didn’t feel real. There would be no longer be the smell of fresh bacon and pancakes to wake her. No more laundry on the line. No more grandma.
The last thought sent tears streaming down her face. She couldn’t hold them anymore, and there wasn’t much of a reason to. Nothing would ever be the same. Her life had changed forever. No one would ever understand her the way her grandmother did. She had no one left to turn to. No one believed in her or supported her. Her family had all but disowned her in the years past. Leah tried to blame her grandmother for leaving her. She tried to hate her, but those effort never brought anything into fruition. In her fury, Leah picked up an old ashtray and threw it at a mirror.
It shattered and splintered, the fragments casscaded around the areaof the frame. Leah’s breath was heavy when she noticed a glint from behind where the glass was. The mucky windows didn’t let in much light, so Leah moved closer to the object. It was caked in dust except for a few small spots where glass had removed the dirt. She reached out her hand to wipe away more of the dust, but hesitated for a moment. This had been well hidden, pehaps her grandmother never intended it to be found?
A moment had passed before she finally pushed her hand the last few inches it needed to touch the object. Under the dust, the surface was smooth and surprisingly warm. Leah grabbed it from the hole and wiped off the rest of the dust. It was an egg, but not one you’d find in a grocery store. It was much larger, and a dark gray; almost black. She traced her finger across the cross that seemed to be apart of the egg. Though it was covered in dust, it shone as though it had been polished everyday. A puzzled look came across Leah’s face as the egg warmed in her hands. She felt a strange connection to it, as though she’d had it all her life; like she had found a long lost friend. Perhaps this day wasn’t as full of tradgedy as Leah thought it would be.

Everyone had finally left, and the house was wonderfully silent. Leah watched from the window as the last of the car lights disappear around the corner. She was finally alone, and now she could return to the attic. Ever since she had found the strange egg it was all she could think about. Did her grandma put it there? Could it have been there longer? The house was fairly old, but could her grandma really have not found it before?
She ran up the stairs as fast as she could, jamming the small skeleton key into the lock, almost too excited to get it into the hole. She whipped open the door and leaped up the last flight of stairs that seperated her from the strange artifact. And there it was, now in front of her. The moonlight sparkling eerily off its shell drew her in, and she leaned in to look closer. Glass crunched under her feet as her weight shifted, and she grabbed the egg from the hole it had been returned to. Leah walked over to the chair from earlier that day and sat with the egg on her lap.
She stared at it intesnely, like she was waiting for something to happen. However, it was the same as it was before, warm to her touch and silently beautiful. Again, she felt that connection. The feeling like she had found a piece of herself, a piece that she didn’t even know was missing.
This egg, this mysterious artifact, made her feel a little happier. Like it wasn’t so bad that her grandmother was gone. That things were going to be ok, because she had this strange object to be with her. Maybe because part of her believed that her grandmother left this for her, that she was meant to have it. It was all destiny; it had to be part of this plan that she was completely unaware of. Leah kept strokeing her new companion, incredibly deep in thought. Deep enough she didn’t notice how much time had gone by, nor that she was completely and utterly exausted. Slowly her eyes began to shut, pop open, and shut again. She had found great solace in the large chair with her new found possession. Finally sleep took hold, and she did not resist. Tomorrow was a new day, and it would come no matter how hard she tried to avoid it. Atleast now she wouldn’t have to face it alone.

[ G.r.o.w.t.h. xxxQ.u.e.s.t. ] One night, upon your return home, you decide to check on the egg up in the attic. It's been so quiet there, deathly silent since you found it. Upon climbing the stairs, you smell something sickly sweet. When you reach for the skeleton key, it's missing. Getting closer to the door, the smell grows worse. A fly or two buzz out from the key hole. The entire stairwell smells overwhelmingly of rot and decay, as if dozens of corpses were stored within. The egg is still inside, with all of that disgusting stench and crawling maggots. You have to find a way to get into the attic without the key before the egg is enveloped in death.

Leah slammed her back to the door. What was she going to do? What was going on? This was crazy, how could she even explain this to anyone? More importantly, how was she going to get the egg. Deep inside she knew if she did nothing and dismissed this as a dream she’d regret it. Perhaps she could break down the door? Then she’d still have the issue of getting up the stairs, and she definitely didn’t want to touch…whatever that was. She slid down the wooden door and placed her head on her knees. She was just a teenager, what could she do against some crazy supernatural force.
She almost began to cry, but something inside her was calling. Something was telling her not to give up, and just to have faith in herself. She took a deep breath and began to try to think of all the access points into the attic. The vents were too small, the stairs were clearly out, and she wasn’t going to break through the roof. There wasn’t really any other option…unless…
Leah ran outside as quickly as she could. There it was, the small window that had given her that comforting dim light with her warm companion. It’d be a shame to break it, but there wasn’t another choice. She’d have to work some extra shifts or something to pay for a replacement. But now was not the time to be debating with herself over finances. She went over to the wall and tugged on the lattice. It seemed sturdy enough, though she did hear a couple small snaps. She figured it was just vines shaking loose, and started her climb anyway. It was a good few meters above ground, and she could care less. All she wanted was for this night to be over, and to know the egg was going to be ok.
She arrived at the window in a only a few minutes, and tried to see inside. However, it was still dusty and without any light at all to push through, it might aswell have been a wall. But, it was a breakable wall. Leah soon saw the flaw in her plan when she realized she forgot to bring a rock or even a stick to smash it out. She’d have to use her fist, and that was not a pleasant thought. Clinging on as tightly as she could with one hand, she took off one half of her coat, switched hands and removed the other half. She did her best to wrap it around her fist for padding, and punched through the glass. Leah pushed through as much as she could and hoisted herself through the opening.
The smell was so intense she almost vomitted instantly. She cupped her hands to her mouth and nose to try to stop herself. The room looked so different, it felt so deep and dark. She wanted to run, but Leah couldn’t just leave after all of that. She made her away around the bits of the floor that looked rotted to where she had left the egg. It was far warmer than before, but she pushed that aside. She just wanted to get out as quickly as she could. Leah returned to the window and saw the darkness spreading. It seemed to be getting quicker as she was taking the egg further.
She made her way down the lattice, unfortunately it wasn’t as sturdy as it had been previously. More vines snapped and it began to fall, with her and the egg still on it. However, not all of them broke. It jerked mid fall, throwing Leah and the egg off. She held it close to her so it wouldn’t break, but the impact with the ground knocked the wind out of her. She lay there under the night sky, unable to breathe but holding her prize greedily. She was only able to weeze her words, but she looked at the egg. “You better be worth it little one…”
