Extended Scene
(Essentially a continuation from: 9th)

When Learania entered the capital of Estarcia, they were led inside the barracks. After that, a meeting began with the commanders from both countries, on what course of action should be taken. At the barracks, the troops settle down and set up various camps. They begin to eat, rest, or do whatever else they wish to do before the inevitable call came to move out.

While the meeting proceeded in the castle, this is what happened within the barracks.

Well what’s so bad about a little coin toss now and then?

The Tempest King

Ahhh come on. Live a little!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm betting my happiness life on this one

Joshua clapped his hands together and was ready to throw the die when yet another newcomer approached, as much as he liked taking everyone’s money if people kept asking to play they'd never get down to business.

"Geez, that’s a thick accent she has." He thought to himself while he returned her large grin, still not only was she a woman but she reminded him for some reason of an Oasis..... The way her hair and her eyes were coloured came together and reminded him of the calm water that somehow flourished in the unrelenting heat of a desert.

"Go on and take a seat then! Your moneys as good as anyone else’s to me." He told Nepheenee. "I'm Joshua, that’s Edward and the big fellow is Ashnard."

~TIME SKIP~

Joshua, as always won..... he'd not only managed to fleece Edward blind of all his money but Nepheenee had most likely lost a big chunk as well.... other than Joshua he supposed Ashnard came off the second best..... if you could call losing what Joshua suspected was half of the money he had brought coming out well. Joshua had used the time old strategy of good conversation and the occasional planned loss to keep the three at the table.

Pocketing the last of his winnings Joshua put the die back in its pocket and looked at the group, "Well! Looks like luck was with me today! But I think we should stop for now.... you guys can't have brought much more with you eh? Besides, I get the feeling we're going to be leaving soon. I feel a little bad about taking all your money though, so tell you what! Any of you ever need any help on the battle field, especially you Nepheenee" He winked at the country woman, "Just give me a yell, same if you ever want to try your luck at gambling again."

With that he stoop up beside the table "If we're lucky perhaps we'll all end up at the same battlefield."

Grabbing his weapon that had been leaning against the table he left.
C’est la vie,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tell you what, We'll flip on it,

Heads, I win

Tails, you lose DIE

User ImageLance watched as Blossom was contemplating herself. For some reason, her whole...aura was screaming out some sort of insecurity at this point...or maybe just lack of self-esteem? Or perhaps just a mere feeling of failure? Or maybe he was just wrong and he imagined it. Even so, there was a hint of displeasure in her voice. Lance leaned backwards in his seat and looked up into the roof. "Tactics are proportional, aren' they? Strategy and whatno', don' we all have them? If you're plannin' on fightin' someone, you don' just rush in blindly withou' assessin' the situation or considerin' who you're fightin'. If you try doin' tha', you end up dead unless you have enough experience ta be able to react instinctively. Sometimes, you wish you wouldn' have to need the experience, 'cause there are some things even I wish I could forget seein'..."

Lance paused as he leaned forward and looked at Blossom again. "'Sides, it's not like any strategy works withou' any problem, no battle plan survives contact with the enemy. When stuff goes too well accordin' to plan, you're walking into an ambush...anyway, after tha', the number of people you're able to direct increase dependin' on wha' grade of tactician you are. Bu' the more people ya command, the more you have to distance yourself from them, else you migh' no' be able to make the righ' decisions when the time comes. It's a bi' like chess, it's not like ya want to lose ya pieces, 'cause then you can' use them anymore in the game. But sometimes ya have ta sacrifice one piece for you're tactic to work...and that defines if you're able to make it as a strategis' or no'." The next sentence was spoken with a lowered voice as Lance's face seemed to turn solemn. "Guess tha' explains why I couldn' deal with it."

His eyes glazed for a moment, as he seemed to recollect inside his head.

"Captain, we got word that both Elaine's and Trisha's squads have encountered the bandits. There seems to be no trouble dealing with Trisha's enemy, but Elaine requested reinforcements, as the bandits are fighting ferociously at her side, and she said she's getting 'pounded to bits', in her own words."

"We're stretched as it is, bu' since Trisha seems to handle herself, we shoul' be able ta help ou'. After all, you and me, we make quite the force, no, love?"

"I'd be happier if you could refrain from calling me l--"

"SIR! I was sent from Trisha's unit! The bandits ambushed us! I barely got out of there! We are in dire need of assistance!"

"Captain! We don't have enough manpower to fight on both fronts! What are your orders, sir? Sir? Captain? Captain Lance?"

Lance's eyes went back to normal as he came back to his senses. He rubbed his eyes and cursed in his head. Out of every memory that was fuzzy and broken and out of order, why did his time he spent in the Ilian mercenary turn out so clear? He didn't even want to think about what came next in that memory...

His attention turned back to Blossom, and he smiled in a weak attempt to hide his thoughts. "Either way, my poin' bein', if I'd pick a friend, I'd rather pick one that's good with a sword, rather than one that's good at chess. Less risk of being lef' to die on your own, tha' way. 'Sides, you're still young la--Blossy, which means all you're possibly lackin' is experience, and experience is something you can only gain, never lose. Let's just pray tha' ya never have ta experience the wrong things, hm?"

He hoped his analogy made sense to her. "Ah, it seems like we're gettin' our instructions, regardless, so there's no poin' in doin' somethin' in town anyway. So wha' abou' it? Got any plan for wha' little group ya wanna join?"

Nephenee gasped as Joshua directed to her. She laughed and blushed, saying, "Aww, shucks! Why do you have to worry 'bout an ol' farm girl like me, eh?" After her blushing episode she got serious, her green eyes filled with concern. "I wish I could run back to my farm and grab my ol' lance so I can help y'all, but I guess my bare hands will do! If y'all need help from a farm girl of course." She blinked and said, "So how 'bout it? Shall I come with y'all?"

Blossom nodded once to Lance. She rubbed the back of her neck, but her eyes went back to her toes as he lapsed into memory. Blossom closed her eyes, trying to think back to her time in Elibe. Aidan had been an excellent tactician--she couldn't recall any major losses within the company. Then again, he was always good with making sure the various squads were well-balanced and capable of defending each other. It probably wasn't the only thing involved, but it helped. And all I can do is cut things.

"Either way, my poin' bein'..."

Blossom looked back up at Lance. She nodded slowly, and by the end, she smiled faintly. She leaned up to the pale-haired man and hugged him tightly. When she pulled away, her expression was a little brighter. "Thanks, Lance," she murmured.

She paused, then looked over to the others. "Honestly, I... have no idea. It's to Restia, Altiplos, or one of the groups to the north... what about you? Do you have any idea?" Blossom looked quizzically at Lance.

Edward sighed and took his stuff. He lost to Joshua and hit himself for his own stupidity. "Hey, we're both new so let's walk together." Edward grabbed Nephenee and dragged her with him. Why did I gamble! It's not healthy plus that guy probably a lot more experience than I do, no he definitely had more experience than I do....

The Myrmidon sulked as he walked a distance in the barracks. "What am I going to do? I have no money... and I desperately need it if I'm going to maintain my equipment. Wait, we are getting paid for fighting... right?" Edward shook his head. "So Nephenee, what are you doing here, if you're going to be fighting we should work together. If we do, we can keep each other safe."

User ImageLance smiled back at Blossom as she hugged him. He hadn't heard the words 'thank you' spoken to him in a long time...either because people didn't appreciate his actions, or he hadn't amounted to a thank you for a long time. He wasn't quite sure if he felt happiness over being thanked, or depression because he got so happy from a mere thank you. Migh' as well take it for wha' it is.

"You're welcome Blossy."

Lance tried recollecting what the instructions were, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He scratched the back of his head and smiled sheepishly. "Ah...I wasn' really paying attention, so I haven' a clue as to wha' the options are. Whichever works, I s'pose, but I hope whichever we go for has the most excitemen'...I've been feelin' rusty lately and I need a spark in my life, so to speak."

Melethia was by the fire. She hadn't really moved much since she sat there. She was watching the flames flicker. Her back was to everyone else and for a good reason. She was crying. She wasn't letting out a sound or any sign that she was crying. Why was she crying though? Roy hadn't come yet to talk to her. He said he would. She felt hurt, but she wasn't going to let anyone see her like this. That showed as a sign of weakness when it was time for battle. So she sat there, very still.

It wasn't long before Roy and Elly returned from their walk, both covered in snow and soaked (odd though, considering it wasn't really snowing much outside). Oh, and their hair was messed up, and they both had pink cheeks and were breathing a little hard.

Clear signs of an epic snowball fight. Not the other thing. (Pervs. -glares-)

"What did we miss?" asked Roy to the people that were still around, clearly in a better mood than he was before he left the barracks.

He then noticed Mel in front of the fire, with her back to everyone. He wandered over to her silently and wrapped his arms around her, holding the Dragoness Sage close. He noticed her eyes were red. Had she been crying?

"Hey...I'll have a response for you after we take care of things here in Estarcia. I promise. Sorry it's taking so long...I want to make sure I'm making the right decision." he said softly, barely more than a whisper. "So wipe those tears of yours and put a smile on."

He held onto her for a little while longer before letting go. The young lord got back onto his feet and looked at the others.

"So...what happened to the others? Did they leave already?"

Melethia felt someone's arms around her. She turned her head to see who it was. It was Roy. She smiled a little bit.

"Hey...I'll have a response for you after we take care of things here in Estarcia. I promise. Sorry it's taking so long...I want to make sure I'm making the right decision." he whispered to her "So wipe those tears of yours and put a smile on."

"Ok." She said back. She wiped the tears off her face. She was enjoying this moment, even if Roy was cold. She really did wish I would last forever, but it didn't Roy did let go off her.

"So...what happened to the others? Did they leave already?" He said. She looked around and saw that some did leave.

"I hadn't noticed that some left." Melethia answered, "I was a bit distracted. I'm sure you are going to wonder where they went. I'm not sure where the went but, I'm going where you are going. Even if your heart isn't where it should be, Dragon-kin watch out for each other."

"HEY!!!" Nephenee yelled, piratically getting dragged by a person she didn't even know! "Wait a sec! Let go o' me, ya creep!!" She kept on trying to get out of Edward's grip, but couldn't do so, so she mumbled to herself angrily as she walked with him. She soon stopped and heard Edward talk. "I guess so..." Nephenee grumbled. "Just as long as ya won't pull me again! And yes, what a shame that that ol' Joshua guy took all our money like that! Ya think he's a thief?" With that, she laughed and said, "Ahh! Jus' kiddin'!"

Blossom smiled brightly at Lance, nodding once. "All right, then. Well, let's see. We either go to that Restia place with Vaida, to Altiplos with Alihi, or join Needles or Deborah to someplace else in the north. Going with Vaida might be a bit dangerous, but she's smart and it'd certainly be interesting, so... if you're looking for a 'spark,' then I'm sure going to Restia with Vaida would be just that."

Blossom idly smoothed out the fabric of her vest, looking back to Lance. "Is that good with you? I think I'll tag along wherever you head to. I'd rather join a company where I've got at least one friend." She smiled warmly for him. "And you've got at least one person assured to be watching out for you."

Roy overheard the conversation between Blossom and Lance. It seemed like the forces were being split up. Vaida to the west towards Restia, Alihi to the north to Altiplos, and Needles and Debbie further north. He had already ventured with Debbie and Alihi when they were the COs in the previous event, and had backed out when it was Vaida's turn. So just to be fair to the Guard Captain, he would join her forces and head to Restia.

"I think I'll join Vaida's group this time. I gotta redeem myself, since our last encounter." he muttered.

His jaw ached a little at the memory of being slugged in the face by the Wyvern lord, but the feeling had passed as soon as it came. Going with Vaida would probably be dangerous, but like Blossom said, it would certainly be interesting. And he would get a chance to see how well the Guard captain fought in combat.

After checking his supplies, the young lord waited.

Melethia followed Roy. She really didn't want to lose track of him. She was going to stick with him. It's exactly what she said, Dragon-kin stick together. Sure Roy was more human than dragon, but that didn't matter to her, he still was a dragon.

She had brought an Elfire tome with her, but with the fact that she was going to go with Roy, she decided to grab a Mend staff. Just in case something did happen. One could never be too careful when it came to battle. She made her way to Roy.

"Hopefully it won't take to long before we leave." She said, "And I'm sticking by you this time, not just for my sake, for your family's sake."
