((Ignore the title, I'm realllllllllllly sleepy XD))
Shock soared through above the trees, but not well or gracefully like usual. He had decided to visit the mountains, which turned out to be a very dumb and also bad idea. Dummy! Shock chastised himself as the snow and wind and, worst of all, ice hit his wings even harder. They weren't as fragile as a 'Deva's wings, but he still didn't want a rogue stick or an icicle to find its way through them. That would be worse than dumb and bad.
After trying to fly for another ten minutes or so, Shock let himself be carried roughly to the snow lands beneath him, coughing as he tumbled over the ground, getting his wings all jumbled up. Poking his head out of the snow, he sneezed, making all the snow on his head fall off.
He liked the snow! It was fun. He had never seen snow before in real life, but he'd heard people talk about it. But they hadn't said it was this fun!
Standing quickly and stretching out his wings, he quickly checked them for damages that would impair him, but he didn't find anything too serious...oh, wait, that was bleeding. Eeew, no wonder his wings had hurt so much.
Oh well. Least he was stuck somewhere fun. Shrugging to himself, Shock folded his wings against him and started half-walking and half-bouncing toward nothing in particular, his ebony coat standing out like a sore thumb against the white background all around him.

Echo had been napping lazily in her tree for most of the day. It was warmer today, by Kousetsu standards, and while it probably felt like Antarctica to most, it was practically tropical to the vixen who had been born in this climate.
Her nap went well until something went crashing and thudding below her. When it sneezed, of all things, Echo reluctantly opened one eye, and was surprised to see a strange Modiphim get up out of a snow drift.
Clearly, this one had never flown through the mountains. He must've been buffeted around by the wind until he crashed. Shaking her head in amusement, the female hopped down in the snow and followed him for a bit, until eventually she caught up.
"Hi," she piped up, smiling. The male's goofy attitude was kind of infectious. "You must be new around here, hm? I'm Echo, you're on Kousetsu tribe lands."

Shock heard the pitterpatter of little feet behind him, but he paid it no mind; probably just a really big squirrel or something...but then he saw a green and blacked female fox out of the corner of his eye, and he was happy it wasn't a giant squirrel. He thought that the idea of a giant squirrel was kind of frightening, actually.
"I am? Oh! I'm sorry!" Shock said, his demeanor shifting from smiling brightly down at her to worried and very very apologetic. "I didn't mean to, I've never been with a Tribe before, I dunno how it works..." Shock trailed off, his wings deflating.
After a few moments, though, "Oh well. I'm here now. Is it okay if I stay 'till the storm's over? I think flying into a tree would hurt, fact, I know it would 'cause it's happened before. Not as much as flying into a canyon wall or something, but it hurts enough." Nodding matter of factly, Shock added quickly, the smile returning, "It's nice to meet you, miss Echo. I'm Shock,"
He grinned cordially down at her, then asked, "Hey, where'd you come from? I know I didn't smoosh you when I landed 'cause there was just snow. And 'cause it'd be kind of silly to be all buried in snow 'till somebody came and fell on you. Unless you wanted to be there, 'course. What's Ko...Kou..." He paused, frowning concentratedly, then said slowly, "Kousetsu? What're they like?"

"Of course you can stay," Echo laughed, having listened patiently to the Modiphim's rambling. "Our Elders wouldn't want you to get hurt again, especially after being hurt already." She circled around him to find the source of the bleeding, then examined the wound carefully. Echo was no Shaman, but Daddy was, and she'd learned the basics of serious vs. not serious by watching him.
"You shouldn't fly for awhile, Shock" she nodded. "Which I guess means you're stuck with me, 'cause we're pretty far away from the tribe center." She smiled brightly at him, then shook the falling snow off her coat out of habit.
"I was in a tree, of course," she nodded sagely, turning around to nod in the direction of a particularly high and very much climbable tree. "I sleep there a lot, and then I heard you tumbling around, so I thought I'd come check it out."
Done examining the hurt Modiphim, Echo plopped down in the snow next to him, still kinda sleepy 'cause she wasn't fully awake yet. "Kousetsu's nice," she added brightly. "It's alllllll about the snow, and stuff, so people are usually pretty calm. But the un-calm ones are still real nice and stuff."

Shock beamed happily down at her when she told him he could stay, then nodded seriously when she mentioned his wing. He hadn't planned on it, but it was good she said so too 'cause that way she couldn't get mad at him for hanging around so much.
"Of course," Shock responded, nodding again. It made perfect sense to him; he wasn't teasing her at all. "I sleep in trees sometimes too, it's fun. Sorry I woke you up though, I didn' know you were nappin'." He offered an apologetic smile, then listened as she spoke of her Kou-tribe.
"Ooh, really? I like snow! I'm not very calm though I guess, people tell me I'm crazy--hey! Have you ever been cliff fly--oh, you don't have wings. Still! I wish normal foxes could get wings too, I'd have more friends that way," Shock deflated; some of the meaner foxes made fun of him for having wings. Aunty Marina could say they were just jealous all she liked, but it still hurt his feelings.
"Maybe you could come with me once my wings are better and go on my back! Oh...that probably wouldn't work, would it...?" Shock pouted again, sad. He wanted to take his new friend cliff-flying with him!

"Issokay, I needed to wake up anyways," Echo reassured the male. Echo has been an adult for ages now, but it didn't mean she liked being away from her family for long. "Allll my family's in this tribe, see, so I usually go back to the tribe center to spend the night with them. But they'll live without me tonight, you shouldn't go very far like that."
She lsitened to him, then laughed at his exuberance. "I wish I had wings too, that'd be so cool!" She paused when she noticed him deflate, then realized what was wrong. "Be proud of your wings, " she told him, gently prodding his leg with her paw. "'Cause they're special, so you must be too."
Echo curled up happily in the snow and looekd up when he talked again. "I wish," she chuckled. "But I don' want to fall."

Not really seeing the point of staying standing if his new buddy wasn't, Shock gently folded his wings against him and curled up in the snow next to her.
"I dunno. Maybe you're right. I've only ever met one other fox who had wings like mine, and she was a girl so even she wasn't reallllly like me." Shock said with an easy shrug, then shook his head to clear it. "Maybe...maybe we could make some sorta un-fall-er thing! Like one that glues you to my back or something, or fake wings! Oohhh, that'd be so cool!"
Shock grinned at the idea, his tail making the snow puff all around him as he wagged it.
"So alllll your family's here, huh? Whasthat like?"

"Maybe, Shock," Echo giggled. The 'Phim's good attitude was catching, and it felt so damn good to laugh again. Sachio had disappeared with a buncha the others, and almost everyone who was left didn't have a lifemate anymore. Laughter and happiness had been as sparse as food lately, even with Loki's determination to rebuild. He could only make them think he was okay with Chau gone for so long.
Shock started talking again, and Echo looked back up at him. "It's pretty cool," she nodded. "I have two sisters and three borthers, and we're together a lot. Mom and Dad are still here too, so it's nice to see my family whenver I want to."
A cold wind blew by, and Echo instinctively moved closer to him for warmth. When she realized what she'd jusr done, the vixen couldn't help but blush. "Uh...erm...sorry," she stumbled out, feeling like a complete fool. Honestly, getting all flustered just because he was cute.

"It's okay," Shock said simply, lifting his uninjured wing to wrap around her frame, pulling her closer to him. Even if she lived in snow alllll the time, it didn't mean she was immune to getting cold, Shock thought.
"I'm glad you and your family get to be all close and stuff," Shock added, almost as an afterthought. "I don' know who my Mom and Dad are, but I live with my 'dopted family, sorta, 'till my Aunty Marina --she's not really my aunty-- sorta kicked me out and said go make some friends'a my own...and now I have 'cause I met you, see?"
Shock grinned widely down at her, hoping she would follow his logic -- it all made perfect sense to him, anyways.

Echo gratefully moved closer to Shock's bigger frame, liking the warmth he offered. Normally she could handle cold, but she was chilly when she first woke up.
"Marina, huh?" Echo said with a small smile. "That's a pretty name. What's she like?" Ech motly could follow his logic, although it was weird to think that a grown Modiphim wouldn't have friends. Was he dependent on others?
Well, maybe he'd be okay if he was making friends now. 'Cause he was her friend now, even if they'd known each other less than a day. There was just something about him that was very likeable.

Shock wrapped his wing more around her, noticing that her fur was a lot more poofy than his own. He guessed that was 'cause she spent allllll her time in the snow foreeever, but he couldn't be sure. Maybe she was just poofy by nature.
"Marina? She's really really nice and funny...sorta. Anyways, she lives with this ocean-tribe on an island! It's so warm there, it's like anti-here." Shock said with a laugh. "I visited once. She has a mate and kits! They were so cuuute when they were little."
Shock smiled happily, comfortable with his new friend in the snow. "She's the oldest of everybody who lives with us --them-- in the caves, so she gets to boss people around. I think she likes it though." Shock wrinkled his nose cutely, then shook his head. "She's a good Mama to her kits though."

"Kits, huh?" Echo said with a small smile. Once upon a time, she thought she'd get to have kits of her own. But Sachio had disappeared, leaving her to wonder what she'd done wrong. How could he just leave? He had seemed happy to her...
With a mental sigh, the vixen pushed her thoughts away. Now wasn't the time. "My mom's the only one in the family with kids. Even Aunt Terra doesn't have any," Echo nodded. "Which is weird, 'cause w eused to have a lot of 'em running around here, back when the tribe was enormous." Had it been that long ago?
"I've never an island," she added absently. "What's the ocean like?"

Shock watched the smile come to her face, then frowned when it slowly disappeared; what was she sad about? He nosed her gently, concerned, but stopped when she started talking again.
"I'm very glad your mom had kits," Shock teased, grinning. "And all the kits prolly grew up and stuff, so that's okay and good and stuff. Maybe there'll be more kits in springtime." Shock comforted her with an easy smile.
"The ocean? It's reallllyyyy big and loud and really really pretty," Shock said, nodding matter of factly. "It's like blue and green and white and light blue and yellow and light green all mixed into one an always changing and swirling around. And I think it goes on forever," Shock added as afterthought, tilting his head at his own idea.

Echo snapped out of all her dwellings when Shock nosed her, surprised. She smiles reassuringly at him to let him know she was okay; Sachio had left a long time ago, she'd moved on. "I'm glad she had them too," Echo snickered. "I like existing."
She started pawing the snow around her feet into a ball while he spoke. "I'm sure there'll be more," she shrugged lightly. "We kinda do reporduce like crazy here when times are good."
She smiled impishly and scooped up the snowball, then plopped it down right on top of his head. "Gotcha!" she giggled.
"Forever? Naahhh. I heard it just surrounds the land, uh huh. But it sounds super pretty. Maybe I'll go there one day."

"Ooh, rea-" Whatever Shock had been about to say, he forgot about it when Echo dumped a ball of snow on his head. "Heeeey!" Shock whinelaughed cutely, before pausing and grinning wickedly.
He took a step or two back, then spread his large feathery wings as much as he could and flapped them, grinning wider as the snow took to the air and flew directly towards her; it was much better than one little ball of snow.
"Ah ha! I win!" Shock shouted, letting the snow die down as he folded his wings back up with a laugh. "Can't beat meeee, I gotcha!" He was obviously completely kidding, but he pranced around her anyways, still laughing. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had this much fun, and they hadn't even done anything yet, just played with this funny white stuff that was everywhere. Shock liked it here.
