He seemed to glide through the settled mist about the forest, the evening having just begun to settle towards night. Hades moved with purpose, however, and he almost blended in with the perfect darkness - save always for the clear eyes, the clear hawkish eyes that appraised the land he trodded over with veiled pleasure. So snow still capped his land where in other places it was already fleeing from Spring's usherings; accursed whore. Ironic, though, to consider Chernabog as one who might like snow; he had always seemed like one of brimstone and fire to him. Regardless . . . would his old friend have changed since their separation?

Hades certainly had, being cold, sterner, less inclined to talk with the living. Yet he felt no hesitation as he scented the wolf's familiar smell about, and he wondered how best to introduce himself so suddenly. Hmm . . . well, it wasn't original, but better to be a loud visitor than one that is jumped by guards at the front door. So Hades let out a low yet sonorous howl, directing it not to the open air but towards the space that yawned before him, the rocks gleaming in clouded moonlight.

Chernabog was sprawled atop his jagged obsidian den in silent contemplation, the pack was a success in his opinion. It needed refinement certainly and there were bumps here and there, but all in all he had had united those who were otherwise scorned by their current society. His pack was full of the strong and the cunning, the clever and ambitious, and he admired them for all their traits good and bad. Amazingly enough despite all the violence that they often enjoyed, love too had twisted it's way into the pack and true bonds formed among the reign of terror.

Yes love was powerful, even he had been ensnared in it's grasp, for he truly felt love, or at least a high admiration and protectiveness over his silver queen. As much as he still admired the female form, now none compared to the one he had chosen for his own. Yet he wasn't about to wage a war against such emotions, there were better ways to expel his energy, better wars to be fought...and won.

His ears pricked then and he lifted his head curiously, the howl was familiar, so very familiar. Yet was it possible for his past to have come here? He grinned and leapt to his paws racing down towards the borders. His old sparring partner? The callow youth he had saved from near death? His...friend...yes friend Chernabog considered Hades his friend, and Hades had seen the truth behind the metal and bone mask that was afixed to his skull. He knew that it had been driven into his very bones, that it would not be taken off until he was dead.

He slowed and inhaled before stepping closer, it was!

"Lord Hades!"

It was not long before he saw that familiar crimson painted form, those gleaming slits of red behind cursed metalwork, those smirking goblin faces that blurred into obscene faces with each movement. Hades's mouth curled into a smirk as he padded forward to greet his past and make it present once more, bowing his head a bit. "Aye, though older I be. And what have you created here, my liege? he asked with a quick glance about, scenting various wolf scents and . . . aha . . . ! A rare grin spread across his dark face, bright eyes dancing. "Have I been away so long that you already have a woman, King of Goblins? Or two even? What have I been missing?"

For gods' sake, he sounded like a gossiping femme! But then, Hades had had so very little company (which he loved of course) that there had been little need to grin and gossip. The bones could only tell so much after all.

Chernabog threw his head back and laughed, ah how refreshing to see a familiar face from the past. "Hades, no longer a pup! Did the humans learn to respect you at last oh Lord of the Dead? I am glad to see you old friend, come come!" He whirled back around this time showing his back not in gesture of fearlessness but in a gesture of trust.

"Come and I'll show you my court, I have filled it with brilliant minds and sound bodies, true warriors through and through, the persecuted wicked souls that roamed this land hateful of the self righteous. We have made quite a little name for ourselves, tributes have been received...we push outward daily." Chernabog spoke in that proud tone one normally reserved for speaking of their pups fine achievements.

Hades lip curled into a toothy grin. "They did," he answered simply, deciding to keep the tale for a different day. For now, he wanted to be led about these darkened lands that his old friend commanded, peruse each corner and see what skeletons lied about - methaphorically and literally. So, it was called his "court"? He gave a deep chuckle at the irony, the anthesis of what was supposedly honorable now delegated to these denizens. He was rather intrigued to see who made up Chernabog's little kingdom of darkness.

It apparently was also expanding, so Hades felt reassured (had there been doubt at all?) that he had made the right decision in pursuing his past rather than scoping his own path through the present. Chernabog had been an influential figure then, and he still was one now. The Lord padded alongside with him, a rare privelege reserved for the alpha's mate andclose friends. "Mmm, wicked souls . . . I have chosen correctly to find you, then, for I am in need of a secure den of my own. Have you plans for conquering then?" Hades asked, noting that he had mentioned warriors and tributes.

Chernabog fell into a casual pace as he led his old friend around the large territory, though in truth he knew they could not cover it all in one day. He was pleased to hear Hades had left the humans in awe of him, someday he would hear the tale. The double set of fangs was exposed in a wide grin as Hades mentioned conquering, such an astute mind.

"Indeed, those who fail to pay tribute will be conquered. You may have what den you wish, unless of course it is already occupied, though with your charm I am certain you could probably obtain entrance to some of those as well." He chuckled.

"To the south lies a small family pack, they pay us tribute and are left alone, to the north lay our allies on the coast, the pack of sinners Gomorah. To the western coast on the ocean cliffs are more allies Agua Azul, and to the east hidden somewhere is a small pack...they have yet to pay tribute or declare their allegiance, but they will...or they will perish. My clever queen says they are assassins, no doubt they believe they can hide or escape the reign of terror."

"With my 'charm'?" Hades gave a deep-throated chuckle that almost seemed to rattle his vocal chords. He didn't have charm as far as he was concerned. More like long-winded rants, a critical eye, and a disposition that forced others to either submit, move away from, or grow angered. All three he was open to honestly. "You flatter me, my liege."

Hades listened intently as Chernabog detailed for him the general schematic of the situation. Agual Azul, Gomorrah . . . these were names he was familiar with. Gomorrah's size would aid them if they weren't busy indulging themselves, but Agual Azul he had doubts about . . . The pack itself had its own minor schism in loyalty. But he chose not to speak and only nodded as his old friend went on. "Assassins? I know not the name of the pack, but there has been whispers of their location on the wind, however tight-lipped they are." The lord hardly believed in their loyalty either; it was not something that should be bribed. Rest assured, they would get squashed in the end.

"May I ask how I should render myself to your services?" Hades went on to inquire about as they went deeper into the territory. "I am as capable of a warrior as I was then, if not moreso."

"Ah your charm is hidden! Unique...your insight into the darkness that lays past mere life." He gave a dark laugh before nodding at Hades report of whispers. He knew that it was not only the assassins though, many packs were re-establishing and he needed new Lords and Ladies to go forth and find them, and demand tribute. The Reign would not fade into some nightmarish memory only told to frighten pups!

"There are others though, they shroud in secrecy for one reason or another. New packs are forming all across the land, and I intend to remind each and every one that the Reign is present still."

Chernabog led him along, the dark forest was dense and the earth itself was rich and dark in color, small shards of obsidian were visible in the soil. "You are a warrior, but you also possess a keen eye, and your paws are swift. I would make a Lord of you, send you to these distant packs to collect tributes for the reign. If they do not wish to pay...then you will make them...pay." The double row of metal and enamel fangs appeared in a savage smirk.

Insight into the darkness indeed, in more ways than one! Though Hades only snorted softly in jest at this compliment, he was nonetheless emboldened by Chernabog's generosity of words. So, it was the will of lesser packs to attempt to hide themselves, secluded in far off meadows and mountains, by shores and trees? Ah, what fun it would be to root them out and test their fortitude and character.

. . . Fun? Gods, it really was a positive influence to see his old friend again after so long.

The male eyed these pieces of obsidian as they passed, musing over a possible collection against the stark whites of his favored bones. "A Lord, is it? You would honor me, sire." The Goblin King's final sentence made him curl his maw up in a dark grin. "For I am equal parts diplomat and warrior, to better be of use to you. If you will have me be such a high rank, then I gladly accept, my liege." He paused his scanning of the area to bow his head in respect. "Let your will be my order and your reign be secured upon this land as you see fit!"

"Yes, Lord Hades...we will announce your position formally to the pack at the next meeting...and I shall give you your assignment then, which pack to go to. There are many...but we will not let even one escape our inspection." He nodded firmly pleased that Hades was once again by his side. He would have made his friend a beta, but he knew better, he would not waste Hades talents.

"You should meet my Queen, she has a clever tongue, but her mind...thats her true weapon. Consult with her before you travel about, she can inform you of the finer points of our neighbors." He nodded firmly eager to establish a friendship between his trusted friend and his beloved mate.

"Excellent," Hades replied, wondering just how many Charenabog had gathered to him. Already he had detected the Queen's scent, and several others lingered beneath the ever present hint of blood. And mostly females at that! Hades's maw split into another little, devious grin at the thought of what possibly went on behind the scenes. It was bit unorthodox of him to leap to such conclusions, but frankly Hades was happy to be . . . well, happy, if you could call it that. An old friend, a high rank, and a home to call his own? It would be hard not to be at least somewhat elated.

"I should let you know before we proceed. I will not come without bearing gifts myself, my liege." He turned his head and barked loudly. "Servant! Come forth and bring my beloveds. You have a new master to bow to."

Vahrenheit loved his life. He really really loved it. He served people's needs, doing what they wanted him to do. He'd been looking for someone, someone he could serve. And he'd found one wolf at least.

Of course, he wasn't sure if being the slave he was put him in any danger or if it was safe for him. But he couldn't help it. Vahrenheit just liked to be of service and what perfect way to please than to be a slave? Right? Right.

Though Vahrenheight wondered about this wolf. He had a strange liking for bones, not that Vahrenheit didn't see the fascination having a few for himself... but after a while they got heavy. For now, his job was the lord's pack mule and that's what he'd be.

"Yo, here's the bones," he announced. "Your gifts."

Vahrenheit bowed to the one Hades was speaking to and then moved behind Hades. Head low, tail between his legs as always. He didn't really know how to act in front of these wolves. He never did, he always just offered himself.

Chernabog watched curiously giving a sniff as the other wolf slunk forward, a slow grin crossed his features. The pack had suffered the loss of one escaped slave, a slight he wouldn't soon forget, but Hades had brought a new willing servant. He nodded at Hades showing his pleasure.

"Well done Lord Hades, the pack has many needs and makes use of those better fit to serve. You seem to have gained much from your time among the two leggers and on your journey here."

He turned to Vahrenheit his gaze piercing. "You will learn to obey all of my court, disobedience is not tolerated, follow directions as your told and you won't be killed, if you lead an exemplary example to the other slaves you will want for nothing...rebel and your life will end in slow misery. Understood?"

Hades' smirk soured into a scowl. He hadn't been keen on letting the omega handle his beloved bones in the first place, but Vahrenheit was very insistent when it came to helping others; frankly, the lord read this more as being a shameless kiss-a**, and the mohawked male would be far better off under someone else's control than Hades'. The blue beta was more of a solo operator who coveted his belongings, and just the mere sight of them on the slave's person disgusted him. As soon as they reached his den, for sure he would strip his pretties away before Var could dare besmirch them.

"My lord," he said gratefully, bowing his head again and continuing, "this creature is called Vahrenheit, but you may name him how you see fit. He is a very willing servent of mine I happened across on my travels, but he is also too eager for my tastes to handle. Should he become unfavorable, you and your queen are welcome to deal with him as you see fit."

Vahrenheit didn't visibly flinch when the other wolf that lord Hades called his lord pierced him with the masked eyes. Though he did feel his stomach do a slight flop with how fearsome the others were. But... he was definitely fine with the stuff he had just been told. Not killed doing what he liked to do, what he did best? That sounded like the life if Vahrenheit was asked truthfully.

He nodded in understanding and obedience and stated, "Understood. Perfectly happy listening and following directions. If... if there's anything to be done or anyone who needs me I can go off now...?"

Vahrenheit was still almost ridiculously happy. It sounded really perfect for him. But he was slightly afraid that maybe the other wolves would take offense to him suggesting that he go off and service others.
