So once I started reading, I asked my mom if I could borrow some of them, and she'd help me understand them. As I got older, I started doing a lot more studying and eventually read about paganism. My household's a pretty open one so I was free to do so. The learning didn't stop there though! My literature classes featured a lot of Greek plays and mythology lessons! I loved it all. Blessed_Scribe: How long have you be studying Wicca/Paganism?When I started studying actual cultures and pagan practices, I was about thirteen (Going into high school). I'm nineteen now so it's been six years now! Blessed_Scribe: What has kept you interested in Wicca/Paganism for that length of time? The love of knowledge and the curiosity that drives me to learn about mythology and history of the culture's deities I follow. smile I'm also a big believer of the interconnectedness of everything. I think what it is that keeps me interested, is that I don't know everything. Blessed_Scribe: What is your favorite area of study and why?Mythology, hands down, without a doubt! Especially that of Greek and Egyptian. Blessed_Scribe: Which element do you feel the strongest connection to and why?Air. Most definitely air. And not just because it's my element! It sings to me as an element of travel, intellect and swift tidings. It's also the element of my patron god, Hermes. Blessed_Scribe: Have you ever experimented with any form of divination? If so, what's your favorite form and what's one of your most memorable experiences while using it?Yes! I do Tarot, and it's gotta be my favorite form. Once I wasn't feeling all that great, like I was spiritually blocked. I asked Apollo, through the cards, about what I should do to regain the connection. The first card that showed up? The sun card. (Which was pretty cool since Apollo is the Sun god.) and then I threw a few more cards telling me I needed to have some time to myself (which I did) and afterward I felt much better and inspired. Blessed_Scribe: Have you ever tried casting a spell? Did it work? Why do you think it did or didn't work?Yes! I do spells from time to time. I'm under the belief that most spells do work, but on varying scales, and mostly, in ways one would never expect. Blessed_Scribe: If you could have any type of "special" power, what would you choose and what would you do with it?Whenever someone asks me this, I'm always torn between time-warp power and premonitions. But let's go with premonition. I certainly would be helping people with that sort of power! Blessed_Scribe: What one book would you recommend to anyone new to Paganism; and why?"Earth Power" by Scott Cunningham. I recommend this book because it will remind a newcomer to any pagan path that they do not need all the bells and whistles for a ritual, spell, or prayer. We've got everything we need, and all one needs to do is to go outside! :] It isn't a long book, and it's more like a guide, but it gives a lot of good suggestions and ideas. Blessed_Scribe: How does being nominated for Member of the Month make you feel?I have to admit, I was surprised! But pleasantly! Thank you for making me a nominee for member of the month. :] I'll certainly be sticking around for many many seasons to come. ---------- Member's ArtIf you'd like to have your art featured here, just PM Blessed_Scribe. You'll get gold for anything that you submit. (Art is defined as poetry, short stories, excerpts from a novel, photography, sculptures, graphic design, painting, drawings, collages, etc).

Ranging from light to dark green, emeralds are often embedded with bits of other substances. A perfectly clear emerald is both rare and expensive. The name "Emerald" is from the Greek [beryllos] indicating any green gemstone. There is an old rhyme about Emerald and the month of May (which Emerald is associated with): "Who first beholds the light of day, In spring's sweet flowery month of May, And wears an Emerald all her life, Shall be a loved, and happy wife."Emerald is said to aid perception and inner clarity. Because of this, they are also associated with healing diseases of the eye, and problems affecting eyesight. It was believed that emeralds could counteract poisons and cure dysentery. In folklore, emeralds have been credited with aiding fertility and giving their wearer psychic powers. The beautiful green stone has been said to lift depression and insomnia. It is also believed to give knowingness of the heart, peaceful dreams, and to transmit balance, healing & patience. Emerald is the sacred stone of the goddess Venus and is known to preserve love. It is also considered to be the stone of prophecy and said to bring thoughts of reason and wisdom. It is in its highest power during full moon and known to cure any disease of the eye (as previously stated). Emerald vibrates with love and gifting an emerald to your lover with pure intentions of love will bring him or her closer to you.

There are many different mediums to use when you are doing divination or want to get some sort of insight to an issue, problem, or even just a question you might have. In this article I will give a general description to different mediums that you can use for this. Types of divination:Tarot cards/runes: These two methods correspond with each other because you use them in both similar ways. In general you lay them out in some sort of layout and depending on what shows up and where they are in the layout, they go with a certain aspect of your question. Some people use them as if they are upside down they have the opposite meaning as they would if they were right side up. Crystal ball/black mirror/water gazing: All of these you generally gaze into the medium clearing your mind of all other thoughts. Depending on what you feel or what you see you can draw a conclusion to your problem or question. General scrying:Cloud Scrying: Cloud scrying is when you think of a question or a problem you might have while you look at the clouds. You would end up drawing a conclusion from the shapes of the cloud or by what you feel when you look at them. Tree Scrying: When you do tree scrying all you do is draw a conclusion from what you feel while you look at the trees, while you think of your question. Fire Scrying: Fire scrying is sometimes done two different ways, and you could do whichever one suits you the best. The first way you do it the same way that you would when you gaze into a crystal ball or black mirror. The other way that I actually use is that depending on which way the flame tilts or flickers, gives you your answer. Pendulum Scrying: The pendulum is used to answer yes or no questions. Depending on how it swings gives you your answer, but the way it swings is different for everyone. Some people use forward and back for yes and side to side for no, or circles for yes and lines for no.

A nymph is generally from Greek mythology and seen as a female spirit typically associated with a particular location or landform. Other nymphs, always in the shape of young maidens, were part of the retinue of a god, such as Dionysus, Hermes, or Pan, or a goddess (generally Artemis.) Nymphs were the frequent target of satyrs. They live in mountains and groves, by springs and rivers, also in trees and in valleys and cool grottoes. One of the things you might (and should) notice is the common ideology: women's sexuality = scary and women's chastity = good. Thus there are nymphs like Salmacis (scary) and of Britomartis (good). It should also be noted that these nymphs are spirits often personifying nature. There were quite few different types of nymphs. The oreads lived in the mountains, while the naïads were nymphs of the water, such as the spring and lake. The nymphs of the trees were called dryads, hamadryads, alseids and meliae. The Nereïds were sea-nymphs. Nymphs were sometimes worshipped alongside with the gods or heroes in their temples or sanctuaries, though these cults of the nymphs were usually found in caves. Nymphs were often attendants to goddesses, like Artemis, or to other nymphs, like Calypso who has attendants on her island. Artemis was often seen as the mistress or goddess of the nymphs, since many of them were hunting companions of the goddess. Some nymphs attended Apollo or Hermes looking after flocks of sheep, as shepherdesses. The poets and writers often described the nymphs of great beauty. Because of their beauty, they often received unwanted attentions from gods and mortals. They often tried to preserve their virginity, like the goddess they followed, but often they are powerless to resist mighty gods, like Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo or Hermes. Some were willing, but in many cases, they were raped. Often to escape from the unwanted advances, even from the powerful gods, they were transformed into springs, trees, or flowers. Most nymphs have at least one divine parent, while only a few nymphs have mortal father and mother. Even more important is that many of the nymphs have become mothers of heroes and gods.

Hello everyone I'm Ashe and I'll be writing the Pagan Music article until I'm told otherwise. Each month I'll spotlight a particular Pagan music group. Be it a rock band, a symphony, or a Celtic group, they'll be here. I'll tell you how they got started and where they are today as well as some songs and links for your listening pleasure. I hope you'll enjoy my articles and I'm very happy to be here, and I hope I'll be around for a long while.
Blessed Be~Inkubus Sukkubus This month the British Pagan rock band Inkubus Sukkubus will be spotlighted. The band originally started in 1989 as Incubus Succubus, several of the band's members left and the two remaining members (lead singer Candia Ridley, and Guitarist/Writer/Producer Tony McKormack) formed a music project Children of the Moon in 1993. In 1995 they assumed the name Inkubus Sukkubus as they are known today. They are still active; their last musical release was 2008's Viva la Muerte. They were scheduled to appear in Mexico for a concert last year but it was cancelled due to the Swine Flu outbreak. Their lyrics are filled with all the things in your wildest dreams. Candia's enchanting voice takes you on dark mystical journeys into magic, nature, and even dark things. If you like your music dark and edgy this band is for you, their pagan lyrics and hard rock sound make it a match made by a goddess. Below are links to their songs and videos so you can check them out for yourselves. Church of MadnessAway With the FaeriesSamhainSources: http://www.inkubussukkubus.com/biography.htm - Biography

Okay ladies and gentlemen! Here are your two spells for this edition of the guild newspaper. This issue is going to deal with emotions and energy and so both spells will revolve around that. Everyone could use a little help controlling his or her emotions especially in stressful times when sadness, confusion, or anger may take over. We also all need a little pick me up during the winter, I think so hopefully these spells help you all!
Spell One: Self Esteem
Ingredients: A Bath 7 Green Oak Leaves (Or Bay leaves if these are out of season) Lavender Oil A Purple Candle A Yellow Candle Purple Thread
Step 1: Run a bath as you normally would and add the leaves and lavender oil.
2) Light the candles and get into the water. Imagine yourself surrounded in bright light and breathe deeply.
3) Tell yourself that you are beautiful. You are of the goddess and therefore beautiful because you are her creation. Everything you are, she meant for you to be. Repeat this until you feel its meaning within you and are comforted by the words. Some people say six, some say more, it is really going to depend on you
4) Once you are out of the bath, snuff the candles and thread the leaves on the purple thread. These will serve as your reminder that you are beautiful and a creation of Her and Him.
Spell Two: An Energy Spell
Ingredients: A red or orange candle (white is a good substitute) Incense, nothing calm or relaxing. Something energetic or spicy. A glass of cold water A bowl of sea salt
Sit in front of the candle and say:
"Give me energy to happily complete the task I have been given to do.
I will feel better for having done it. The completion of the task will be my reward."
Sprinkle the sea salt around the candle and say,
"Give me strength, O sacred Earth."
Pass your hand near the candle and say
"Give me strength O sacred Fire."
Pass your hand through the smoke of the incense and say,
"Give me strength, O sacred Air."
Drink the water down and say
"Give me strength O sacred water."
Now immediately get up and go do your task.
