How can you people actually believe in this... I mean... doesn't it seem a little pointless to believe in this so called god... With all this s**t going on and all this stuff being discovered... doesn't it just seem... like there's nothing there...

First of all id like to know what religion you are directing this to or if it is just a general question to all the religions represented in this guild?
Even if people discover something, the majority will cling to the belief in the supernatural because it is far more reassuring and it offers a sense of safety and control. Now you have to understand that if a disaster or something along that line occurs it will only make the faith of those affected stronger because that is all they have, a god/goddess who can help them and protect them and make sure everything will be alright when its all over.
Id like to add more and make this post more detailed and far more explanatory but i don’t really feel like writing several paragraphs on why religion is here in the first place and why people continue to accept the supernatural over the scientific
Now as to how i continue to believe. Its a matter of faith and loyalty to that which you believe watches over you and has some form of control over your daily life. It would be impossible for me to become athiest becuase i believe that my gods and godess are there for me and that no matter what coems my way ill always have those same dietys to trust and pray to.

Religion was originally created to explain way the things primitive man didn't understand, as well as a way to control the fearful masses.

Well it is sad whenever people will reject something like say...evolution just because it goes against their beliefs. (Pointing my finger at the Americas, mainly the middle of the Northern one *cough*US*cough*).

Don’t accuse a nation when it is the religion that causes such. Most Americans unless they are devote Christians, etc acknowledge if not accept evolution and other scientific discoveries made in the past few decades
And don’t point fingers at America when all over the world their are far more people who don’t accept those things. If i had to point fingers id point it at Europe and the middle east because of the high percentage of Catholics and other monotheistic religions that believe in divine creation

Same here, although some people have taken a more "logical" approach and say God created Evolution. It's better, I guess.

I know, it's nonsensical, but at least they aren't completely ignoring it that way.
