Any suggestions for what to do? I'm really sick of people wishing me a merry christmas/happy new year/whatever. I know they aren't trying to be rude or offend me, but does anybody know a polite way to let somebody know that I'm not Christian? It's getting rather annoying, especially when they keep asking me what I'm getting from Santa or whatever.... xp

It's not a big deal. Honestly, just let people enjoy the season. I always just answer "Thank you!" and move on. Unless I'm in a Hannukah mood. There's no reason that when someone wishes you a "Merry Christmas!" that you can't reply, "Thank you, Happy Hannukah!"

ooo good one good one ^.^ i like that idea but knowing the people at my school they'd be like"wtf i'm not jewish you moron" then i'd reply sacarasticly perhaps depending on what day of the week it was and how much sleep i'd gotten that night "wtf i'm not christian" but then i'd be called a b***h. so you know we never win lol
but i still agree with the letting them enjoy your holiday, when someone said merry christmas to me at walmart by accident i guess (one of the greeter people) i just smiled at them but i was having a hannukah fit in my head in my head i was
have a hapy happy hannukah it's the best minor holiday of the year. ^.^ then i put it to song hee hee

I enjoy Christmas very, very much, so I don't mind it. It's a great secular holiday all about giving and getting gifts, peace on Earth and goodwill towards mankind, and those are all pretty Jewish ideals.
I am getting a little irked with the people who are being antagonistic about it, but they aren't the type of people I'd be friends with anyway. surprised

Just say thanks... That's what I do. If they ask about my plans for Christmas, I tell them about my plans for Channukah. It's just easier and doesn't get awkward that way. If the questions are more specific, just tell them you celebrate Channukah... There's no reason to be insulted, they're trying to be nice and polite.

And yea, Christmas is fun. Today I ate the gingerbread cookies my friend brought to school, and I love Christmas songs.

But those symbols aren't as well known as the Magen David. Really, the best known symbol of our people is the Magen David. I'll wear mine and people will be notice it and say, "Oh, you're Jewish?'

It's just frustrating that when people know that you are Jewish, they still get you Christmas gifts. I mean, I really do appreciate that they give me a gift t, but its like, to walk up to somebody and say, "Yeah...I know you're Jewish...so just pretend this Christmas tree is a Hannukah bush" xd sweatdrop
I'm not offended or anything, but its still a bit strange

I mean, if our holidays fall at the same time, and friends want to exchange gifts, it's all good. Unless it's like a Christmas tree ornament, which is just a weird present anyway.

One of my friends asked me if I get offended when people wish me a merry xmas. I told her no (Most of the US population is Christian, and I'm not "classic Jewish" in looks) but since she knows I'm Jewish I'd prefer she wish me a happy Hannukah.
