Palia flew across the savannah, feeling the icy wind in her face as she followed the starry road in the sky. She had no idea that two-legged creatures had given it a name, that they called it the Milky Way; for her, the starry road in the sky had always been just that, a road filled with stars as dense as wildebeest on migration. Every night something deep in her heart told her to follow that road. She felt very certain it had a destination. That was why she’d been following it ever since the day she left home. To be honest, it was more like a hobby than a quest.

Valetudo'Sero was restless this starry night. The day had been slow and empty of others which Val normally liked but looking up at the large band of stars arcing across the deep indigo of the night sky reminded her of how alone she was. Val was a goddess but one who devoted her life to helping mortals, she dealt with pain and suffering yet rarely felt it herself. I can understand why others withdraw from this land she thought as she slowly walked across the darkened grassland, her eyes turned up to the stars. She was so unaware of her surroundings that she had even let the illusions around her wings fall, allowing mortals and gods alike to see the small feathery, plant like wings that marked her as immortal.

No matter how often she felt that pull, Palia only caved in to her desire to follow the starry road once in a while, when there was nothing else to hold her attention and she felt the need to escape her suddenly boring life. She never felt bound to follow anyone’s path. Not even the path of the gods could satisfy her for long. On nights like this, when she desperately needed a little adventure in her life, following the starry road provided her with a feeling of enormous anticipation, as if great things were ahead of her, just over the horizon. She needed an element of danger in her life.

Just ahead of her something lion-shaped loomed. She veered off course slightly, coming in at an angle, and what she saw caused her heart to race. There was something different about this lioness. Something unique. Palia slowed down and moved in for a closer look.

Lions sometimes killed cheetahs for sport. Palia had been in that situation before, cornered by a pair of young males thirsting for cheetah blood. She escaped then and had no doubts she could escape again. It just meant a little more excitement in her day.

It didn’t matter if Val was watching the stars and wondering about the path her paws will take through her unending life, she was always aware of her surroundings, at least a little bit. Not taking her eyes off the stars Val sniffed the air trying to figure out who or what pulled her from the starry path. She was standing upwind to what ever was coming up on her right, Cheetah. Female. her nose told her as she wondered if her guest would just walk by. The sound of the grass made Val think that she, her guest, was more curious about her, Val. Company might not be a bad idea, at least for a little bit. “The stars are quite bright tonight are they not?” she rose her voice so it would carry against the wind.

Palia slowed gradually, taking her time. She was quite strange looking for a lioness, strange green fur on her shoulders, a strange something made of animal hide around her neck, shiny trinkets on her ears that glimmered like golden stars. From the lioness’s greeting she guessed her presence was welcome here. Good to know. She closed in and felt her eyes widen at the strange smells that wafted from the lioness. Some smells made her eyes water, others relaxed her tense muscles. She didn’t know it was the herbs in Val’s pouch she was smelling. In fact she did not even know that the creature standing before her was a god.

“Makes no difference to me. I just run by them,” she answered, thinking that was an odd question. The stars were bright every night. She tilted her head and noticed something shiny pinned to the front of the bundle of animal hides the lioness wore around her neck. Those strange smells seemed to be coming out of the bundle. “That’s a curious thing you have round your neck. Is it like a necklace?”

“Ah but if the sky was not clear and the stars were not bright would you beable to run safely by them?” She said trying to make conversation. Val didn’t even notice the smells of her herbs anymore since they were always with her, the smell was ever changing as she added more herbs and used others, and it was her own unique fragrance. When the Cheetah asked about her herb pouch, Val finally looked down. She had not sat down so the bag was swinging slightly on the leather strap that kept it around her neck, the golden flower pin winking in the light of waning crescent moon. “A necklace? Not really. For me it’s an herb pouch. A place were I keep the herbs that I gather and the mixes that I make.”

Palia regarded the smelly green lioness with a lifted eyebrow. Well of course it would be more difficult for her to travel on a starless night, but not impossible. This lioness must have thought she was some smarty pants. She wasn’t even going to dignify that with a response.

“Well I wouldn’t know anything about that,” she said proudly in regards to Val’s herbs, “but it’s very pretty. And those earrings. Where did you find them?” And do you have any that would match my eyes?

Val just smiled, “Not many do.” It seemed that few knew the countless uses for herbs and other plant life but that was ok with Val since she was use to it now. “My ear cuffs? Well I didn’t find them, they were made for me by…” she hesitated, did she want to say that one of the other gods made them for her? It didn’t seem like this female realized that she was a goddess and rather then say it right out Val finished by saying “relatives. When I was old enough to start wandering the lands by myself.” All of her jewelry in fact was a gift to her when Val reached an age when the older gods thought it would be good to send her out into the mortal world where her powers would do the most good.

Something felt off about her. She spoke with an uncertainty Palia usually heard when someone was trying to make up a story off the top of their head, but her attention wandered back to the strange objects that adorned the lioness’s body. “Are those from your family too?” she inquired, nodding at the strange fixtures on the lioness’s shoulders. Now that she was standing close she could tell they weren’t just funny looking fur.

It wasn’t until the Cheetah asked about her wings that Val realized that she had dropped her illusion that made her look mortal. Still trying to pull off being mortal Val nodded, “Yup just one more legacy from my family, sort of like your markings.” She knew that if she used the illusion now it would just scream ‘not normal’ so instead she left her wings as is and hoped that the Cheetah would get distracted.

Suspicious. She didn’t understand why the lioness would want to hide the origin of these funny shoulder ornaments. Palia glanced at the lioness’s expression and smiled innocently. “Oh really? What do you call them?”

((this never got posted for what ever reason, this post ends the rp))

The innocent smile made Val nervous. It shouldn't and she knew it but it didn't strike her as a honest smile so she hesitated even more over her answer not sure what a wrong answer would cause. "Um, well, they are called..." Lying was not the goddesses forte and she could not come up with a good answer. With a sigh she said, "Wings. They are called wings." Val had given up the flimsy pretense of being mortal but wasn't going to come right out and say it unless forced and the best way she had come up with saying it was just fading from sight, so that is what she did.

She took a few steps away into the darkness and began using illusion to hide her form slowly as she kept walking. Unable to walk away completly without saying good by, after all the cheetah did keep her company if only for a little bit. Once the illusion was complete, hiding her from view Val stepped up onto the air above the ground and grass and turned back to the cheetah. "It was nice talking to you but I need to go now. Have a good night." Val then turned and continued on her walk following the stars except this time she left no trace of her passing except the occasional ripple of grass when a tall stalk brushed her paw and a lingering scent of green things in the air.
