Konnichiwa! I am your arithmancy teacher, Mrs Hughman. Today we will learn the basics of arithmetic. First of all, arithmancy is a method of fortune-telling based on names and numbers. It is all brainwork, no interpreting fuzzy images or attributing meaning to random shapes and squiggles. I will give you the chart today and give you all the meanings next week. Remember your name in numbers until next week, and I'll tell you what to do with them. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z For example, J a n e H u g h m a n 1 1 5 5 8 3 7 8 4 1 5
Do this with your name. In lesson 2, please post it and then I'll tell you what to do.

I'll do the same. Arithmancy has always interested me; I think you're doing a great job, Jane. Uneko Junumai 35526 1353419

James copied down the chart on a sheet of parchment. Then he wrote his name at the bottom and translated it into numbers.
